Shahjahan Islam remarks row: Youth Congress leaders meet Tripura rights panel chief, demand protection of family, other minority members of Shantipara
A delegation of Youth Congress met Tripura Human Rights Commission chairperson Arindam Lodh on Tuesday and sought to ensure the safety and protection of the family members of its leader Shahjahan Islam and other minority families living at Shantipara in Agartala. Islam's house in Agartala was attacked late on Sunday after he slammed the state government and police for their alleged silence over a few incidents centering on alleged cow slaughter on Eid-al-Adha at Udaipur in the Gomati district on Saturday. Hours after the attack the police had arrested Islam's father and brother. The delegation stated that Islam's residence was ransacked by a gang of miscreants allegedly backed by the BJP on June 8, centering around his statements on animal sacrifice posted on Facebook. According to them, the goon went on a rampage, damaged his goods and furniture, and misbehaved with women members of his family. The Youth Congress delegation, in a letter to THRC chairperson, also alleged that some BJP activists were trying to evict Shahjahan from the locality by giving an ultimatum to his family members, including his mother, wife and nine-month-old son, to vacate the house by June 10 evening, or else, their house will be bulldozed. The family members were also given death threats, they said. The Youth Congress workers pointed out another human rights violation in the incident where the police, without arresting the perpetrators, arrested Shahjahan's father and brother without any cause and sent them to 14 days judicial custody. 'For this, the Youth Congress knocked on the doors of the Human Rights Commission seeking to ensure security to Shahjahan's family and protection of human rights of the other minority families in the area,' the delegation stated. In the controversial video, Shahjahan Islam was seen lashing out at Tripura Police and the state government for purportedly failing to act against the miscreants who allegedly interrupted the customary animal slaughter on Bakrid. Several netizens, including BJP activists, sought action against the Congress leader. Four people were detained for allegedly slaughtering a cow in public near a water body in the Chhanban area in Udaipur. A similar incident occurred in the Rajnagar area of Udaipur, where a minority family was accused of slaughtering a cow in the open Congress leader and former party president Birajit Sinha condemned the 'culture of attacking houses'. 'After the BJP came to power, attacks on people's houses by goons started. I demand police to take an active role,' Sinha alleged. On the other hand, BJP Minority Morcha leader Jasim Uddin on Tuesday slammed Islam for allegedly making derogatory remarks against CM Saha and the state police on social media and demanded his immediate arrest. He further alleged that Islam illegally occupied the land of the Wakf Board for a long time and built a house on the land. He appealed to the state government to recover the land from his possession so that the people of backward classes in minority communities could use the land. 'I condemn the way Congress leader Shahjahan Islam abused the state's popular chief minister Dr Manik Saha and those who are working day and night for the safety of the state and the country — the state Home Department's police — in bad words and demanded the immediate arrest of Shahjahan. Congress leader Shahjahan Islam built a palace after occupying the land of the Wakf Board for a long time. I hope that the state government's Wakaf Board would recover the occupied land in the coming days so that the backward minority community people could use it,' he wrote on Facebook.

IIM Ahmedabad employee fooled in Rs 50 lakh bogus SME IPO pitch via WhatsApp trading scam
A manager at the Indian Institute of Management ( IIM ), Ahmedabad, has fallen victim to an elaborate online trading scam, losing nearly Rs 50 lakh after being lured into a bogus IPO investment scheme through a WhatsApp group promoting stock market 'tips.' According to The Times of India, the 49-year-old victim, who resides in Chandkheda, filed a complaint with the Cybercrime police on Monday after discovering that his in-app trading account had been blocked and his phone number cut off from further contact with the fraudsters. Lured through Facebook, hooked by fake profits The incident began on February 19, when the complainant clicked on a WhatsApp group link titled 'E-28 ASK Capital Circle' while browsing Facebook. Group administrators began offering investment 'tips' and instructed him to download a mobile application named 'ASKICPRO.' He initially observed the group's discussions but was soon persuaded to make a small investment. On March 19, he deposited Rs 25,000 to buy shares of 'CLARA Industries Ltd' and was asked to sell them shortly after. The next day, his in-app wallet reflected Rs 28,800, encouraging further trades. By March 27, his wallet balance had grown to Rs 5 lakh, with the app displaying consistent 'profits' and the fraudsters urging him to participate in 'OTC trading.' This pattern of fake gains appeared to cement the victim's trust in the platform. Fake SME IPO allotment letter, Rs 42 lakh sunk The group's administrators later convinced him to apply for an IPO in the name of 'Informative Solution SME.' After applying through the ASKICPRO app, he received a seemingly official IPO allotment letter and was asked to deposit Rs 42,80,640. When he expressed concern about the high amount, the scammers offered to facilitate a loan of Rs 18 lakh if he deposited Rs 20 lakh upfront. He agreed, and eventually paid the full amount in installments. Upon attempting to withdraw the funds, he was told to make an additional Rs 15 lakh deposit for 'capital verification.' After negotiating, he deposited Rs 10 lakh more, according to The Times of India. Blocked and vanished The final blow came when he tried to withdraw Rs 45 lakh from his app wallet, only to find the transaction had failed. His account was promptly blocked, he was removed from the WhatsApp group, and his mobile number was blacklisted by the fraudsters. The case is now under investigation by Ahmedabad Cybercrime police. Leena Maria Paul denied bail in Rs 200 crore scam case by SC; cites health issues
(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Actress and model Leena Maria Paul has faced a legal blow as the Supreme Court dismissed her bail plea in the Rs 200 crore financial fraud case tied to notorious conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Leena, who is a co-accused in the case, sought bail on health grounds, claiming she has been suffering from tuberculosis and has been imprisoned for over three and a half years. According to Asianet News, the Supreme Court, however, refused to intervene at this stage, citing that her bail application is already under consideration by the Delhi High Court. The bench noted that it would be inappropriate to entertain her plea while the matter is still pending before the lower court. The court directed her to approach them again, if necessary, after the High Court delivers its verdict. John Abraham's co-star Leena Maria Paul arrested Supreme Court urges quick hearing in HC According to the reports, while rejecting Leena's request, the Supreme Court acknowledged the delay in the High Court's decision-making process and urged the latter to expedite the hearing. Leena had argued that her prolonged custody, coupled with her deteriorating health, warranted immediate relief. However, the court emphasized procedural discipline and instructed her to wait for the outcome of the ongoing High Court proceedings. The actress had highlighted that she has been in judicial custody since 2021 and is suffering from a chronic illness, which she believes should be considered a valid ground for bail. Despite these arguments, the top court remained firm on not bypassing the due process already in motion. Tied to Sukesh Chandrasekhar's Rs 200 crore scam For the unversed, Leena Maria Paul was arrested in connection with a sensational fraud case in which Sukesh Chandrasekhar and his team allegedly extorted Rs 200 crore from Aditi Singh, the wife of Shivinder Singh—former promoter of Fortis Healthcare. The con involved promises to secure bail for Shivinder and his brother Malvinder Mohan Singh, both of whom are in jail on separate financial crime charges. On the work front, Leena is known for her roles in Malayalam films like 'Husbands in Goa', 'Cobra', 'Nandalala', and 'Red Chillies alongside Mohanlal.
