Vaughan says Crawley 'lucky' to have so many England caps
Crawley tightened up his defence while making a valuable 65 as England chased down a stiff target of 371 to win the first Test at Headingley against an India attack led by Jasprit Bumrah.

But with India resting Bumrah, the world's top-ranked Test bowler, at Edgbaston, the 27-year-old Crawley reverted to his old ways by twice getting out driving loosely at balls well outside off stump while making scores of 19 and nought.
The tourists crushed England by 336 runs to make it 1-1 with three more matches to come in the series.
Despite his struggles, Crawley has kept his place in England's squad for next week's third Test at Lord's.
"In my time watching, playing for and covering England, he is the player luckiest to have won as many caps as he has," former England captain Vaughan wrote of Crawley in Britain's Daily Telegraph.

"He has to count himself fortunate to have played 56 games while scoring just five hundreds and averaging 31."
Vaughan, who scored 18 Test centuries, added: "Crawley is so exasperating because he has the game.... But he has to score more runs at the top of the order."
England opening great Geoffrey Boycott was even more scathing than Vaughan about Crawley's approach to batting.
"I don't think he can change or get better," said Boycott, writing in the same newspaper. "His faults in technique and thinking are ingrained.
"A leopard doesn't change his spots, or maybe Zak does not want to change. He should be approaching his best years but in 56 Tests he has learned nothing.

"One sparkling innings (of 267) and numerous failures, with an average of 31, is not good enough."
England were also comprehensively out-bowled at Edgbaston. India paceman Akash Deep, only playing because Bumrah was rested, took 10 wickets in the match.
England paceman Chris Woakes took the new ball but managed just two wickets, with Boycott suggesting the 36-year-old's best days are behind him.
"It is counter-productive to keep the same guys in the team when they are past their sell-by date or not doing enough," he said.
"Look at Chris Woakes. His pace is dropping as you would expect as a seamer gets older. He has never been a wicket-taker abroad, where his record is poor."

Daniel Dubois urged to use Frank Bruno as inspiration after crushing Usyk defeat
Daniel Dubois is not expected to fight for at least six months but has been urged to draw inspiration from Frank Bruno in his attempt to bounce back from a second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Dubois lost for the third time in his career after he was stopped in the fifth round at Wembley on Saturday night to new undisputed world heavyweight champion Usyk. British boxer Dubois (22-3, 21KOs) played his part in four highly-competitive rounds but was put down by a vicious right punch and while he bravely made the count, Usyk delivered a sensational left hit titled 'Ivan' to bring the rematch to a close. It means former IBF-belt holder Dubois is back in rebuild territory – like in 2023 after his first loss to Usyk in Poland – and Queensberry chief Frank Warren challenged the 27-year-old to regroup again. Warren talked up the example of Dubois' compatriot Bruno, who lost his first three world titles fights before he finally clinched the WBC belt in his 44th bout back in 1995. Asked how long Dubois will need out of the ring, Warren said: 'About six months out. It won't be before then. 'I thought up until that (fifth) round it was a pretty good fight to watch. Daniel is obviously very disappointed. 'He has got to learn from it. He is only 27. I look at Frank Bruno for example, three times he fought for a world title and he got it on the fourth attempt. 'Daniel has won a world title so hopefully he will come back, but the bottom line is it was Usyk's night and he is a special, special boxer.' Dubois earned this opportunity after a golden 10-month period where he stopped Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua, but Usyk again showed the difference in level at the summit of the blue-riband division. Warren felt Dubois got 'careless' during round five after he had pushed Usyk early on during a pulsating contest in London. 'That is what Daniel needs to learn from this fight, to try and learn and develop the mental attitude that Usyk has,' Warren explained. 'Daniel didn't stick to the task, he got careless, he dropped his hands and paid the price. 'For Daniel now, he'll have a little break, think about things and he has got to resurrect himself. 'What level? He's got to come back and make a statement. He needs to make a statement against a quality fighter like he did last time. 'There are lots of fighters over the years who have been beaten and come back even stronger. That is what he has to do. 'He can punch, he can hurt you and it's just developing other aspects of his game.' Dubois' trainer Don Charles backed his fighter to bounce back, with Joseph Parker a potential option in 2026 if Usyk was to vacate his WBO title or low-key domestic bouts with Derek Chisora, Dillian Whyte or Joe Joyce, who won their first encounter five years ago. Charles added: 'We tried to get going. He is a young champion Daniel Dubois, 27 years old, remarkable what he has achieved to date. 'He will be back from this stronger. Usyk is a generational great, if you're going to lose to someone, lose to someone like that. He'll be back from this.'

Tierney enjoys 'emotional' return to Celtic Park
Kieran Tierney enjoyed an "emotional" return to Celtic Park in Saturday's friendly against Newcastle United, with the biggest cheer in a 4-0 victory reserved for the defender. Andy Farrell calls up Scotland lock to British and Irish Lions squad as injury concern emerges before second Test
Scotland second row Gregor Brown has been called up to the British and Irish Lions' tour of Australia amid concerns over the fitness of Joe McCarthy. Brown joins Andy Farrell's squad in Melbourne on Sunday to provide cover for Tuesday's final midweek match against a First Nations and Pasifika XV, which is sandwiched by the first and second Tests. McCarthy left the field in the 44th minute of Saturday's 27-19 victory over the Wallabies because of a foot issue that makes him a doubt for the Lions' shot at clinching the series in the looming rematch at Melbourne Cricket Ground. "It was niggling away at Joe. We got him off. Hopefully we got him off in time," said head coach Farrell, who revealed that the Ireland enforcer is struggling with plantar fasciitis. Brown joins Rory Sutherland and Ewan Ashman in leaving Scotland's tour of New Zealand to link up with the Lions. All three of them started Friday's 41-12 victory over Samoa in Auckland. The 24-year-old has won nine caps since making his debut against Canada last year and featured throughout the recent Six Nations. Farrell is entering his most challenging week of the tour as he balances preparation for a potentially tricky fixture against the First Nations and Pasifika XV with the greater need of Saturday's second Test. By increasing the size of his squad to 45 players, he is attempting to prevent as few players as possible from backing up on Tuesday and Saturday while also ensuring his Test team are given an uninterrupted build up to the MCG showdown. The Lions have won all six of their games Down Under so far and are determined to see their 100 per cent record maintained in Melbourne, but being confronted with a match at such a critical juncture of the tour presents all manner of headaches. Farrell is embracing a fixture that was organised when original opponents Melbourne Rebels went into administration and even now refuses to separate his touring party into 'dirt trackers' and the Test team. "We care about the squad and nothing but the squad. That's how it's been the whole time. We've never separated once. We've been all in everything together," Farrell said. "We'll name a side internally just before dinner on Sunday and then everyone will roll in on Monday to make sure that team, in an extended captain's run like we've been doing over the past four of five weeks, has as good a preparation as we've had all tour. It matters to us on Tuesday night as a group." Finn Russell left the field early in the dominant victory at Suncorp Stadium but was suffering with cramp only. Garry Ringrose (concussion), Mack Hansen (foot), Blair Kinghorn (knee) and Luke Cowan-Dickie (concussion) face fitness checks as they look to be involved in the penultimate week of the tour.
