In PMAY-U 2.0, preference is extended to vulnerable groups including PwDs, widows, single women, senior citizens, and transgenders. Additionally, up to 4% of General Pool Residential Accommodation vacancies are reserved monthly for PwDs.
The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) aims to construct 2 crore additional houses in rural areas between 2024 and 2029. As of August 4, 2025, a total of 44,991 housing units have been sanctioned for persons with disabilities (PwDs) under the PMAY-G scheme. States are encouraged to ensure that at least 5% of the beneficiaries under PMAY-G are individuals with benchmark disabilities, with a priority given to women. Households with disabled members and no able-bodied adults receive higher deprivation scores to ensure priority in allotment.
To support infrastructure accessibility, Rs 73.12 crore has been earmarked for FY 2025–26 under the Scheme for Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (SIPDA), which funds barrier-free environments in buildings, transport, and ICT systems.
The Ministry affirmed that while implementation varies by state, the central government continues to provide financial and policy support to ensure inclusive housing access for persons with disabilities.

India has "taken note" of reports about China commencing the construction of a mega dam project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River (upper reaches of Brahmaputra) in Tibet, the government informed Parliament on Thursday. In a written response to a query in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, said the project was first made public as far back as 1986 and since then, preparations have been underway in China. The government of India has "taken note of reports about commencement of construction of mega dam project by China on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo (upper reaches of the Brahmaputra) River in Tibet," he said. The government "carefully monitors" all developments relating to the Brahmaputra River, including plans by China to develop hydropower projects, and "takes necessary measures to protect our interests, including preventive and corrective measures to safeguard life and livelihood of Indian citizens residing in the downstream areas", he said. Various issues relating to trans-border rivers are discussed with China under the ambit of an institutionalised expert level mechanism, which was established in 2006, as well as through diplomatic channels, Singh sad in his response. "As a lower riparian state with considerable established user rights to the waters of the trans-border rivers, the government has consistently conveyed its views and concerns to the Chinese authorities, including on the need for transparency and consultation with downstream countries, and urged them to ensure that the interests of downstream states are not harmed by any activities in the upstream areas," he added. The need for cooperation on trans-border rivers, including resumption of provision of hydrological data by the Chinese side, has been highlighted by the government in several bilateral interactions with China, including during the recent visit of the external affairs minster to China from July 14-16 for the SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the minster said. Under a bilateral framework agreement signed in November 2023, a total of 6,774 Indian workers went to Israel for work as of July 1 this year, the government informed Parliament on Thursday. This was revealed by Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, in a written response to a query in Rajya Sabha on the total number of labourers recruited from India by Israel consequent to the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023. Singh said that during the ongoing conflict, "one Indian agriculture worker was killed in an attack from Lebanon in March 2024". "Three Indian nationals were injured, one in rocket fire from Gaza on October 7, 2023, and two more in an attack from Lebanon in March 2024," the minister said. The government said it accords highest priority to the safety, security and well-being of Indian nationals abroad, including Indian workers. In 2022, India and Israel commenced negotiations on a bilateral framework agreement for Indian nationals to "gain access to Israel through safe, orderly, regulated and legal migration", he said. The Framework Agreement and Implementation Protocols were signed in November 2023. "Under the agreement, 6,774 Indian workers had arrived in Israel for work as on July 1, 2025. This includes 6,730 Indian nationals in construction sector and 44 Indian nationals employed as caregivers, based on demand raised by the Israel side," Singh said. In addition, according to available information, around 7,000 Indian nationals have been recruited as caregivers and around 6,400 Indian nationals have been recruited in the construction sector "through private channels". Out of these, around 220 have returned to India primarily due to "skill mismatch and language barriers", Singh said. "Our embassy remains in regular touch with the Indian community in Israel and organises frequent consular visits to ensure safety and well-being of Indian workers in Israel. "The Indian Embassy coordinates with Israeli authorities for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Israel and to ensure proper medical treatment to the injured and compensation for the victims," the minister said.
