A 19-year-old Rajasthan girl defied her family to marry a 30-year-old truck driver, sparking uproar in her village. The couple now seeks police protection to live in peace
A strange and controversial love story has emerged from Churu district of Rajasthan, involving a 19-year-old girl who fell in love with a truck driver. As their relationship deepened, tensions with her family grew, eventually leading to the couple eloping and marrying. However, their troubles didn't end there, as their union, which went against both social and familial expectations, sparked a public outcry.
Determination To Fight For Love
The young woman, Rekha Kumari Prajapat, a 19-year-old from Gogatia village in Taranagar tehsil, has shown remarkable determination in the face of opposition. Rekha, who was pursuing her BSTC course in Churu, met Kanhaiyalal Sharma, a 30-year-old truck driver with a Class 10 education, two years ago.
Initially, Kanhaiyalal was employed driving a van for a private school in the area. Their friendship eventually blossomed into love over a span of two-and-a-half years.
Family Disapproval And Forced Separation
Six months ago, Rekha informed her family about the relationship, but they strongly disapproved. According to Rekha, she was beaten, her mobile phone was taken away, and she was pressured to end things with Kanhaiyalal.
Family Backlash And Police Involvement
Upon discovering the marriage, Rekha's family caused an uproar. Despite the opposition, Rekha and Kanhaiyalal have maintained that their decision was made entirely of their own free will, without any external coercion. Rekha, however, remains fearful of her parents and has expressed her reluctance to meet them.
She left home with only her essential documents.
Seeking Protection And A Peaceful Life
Now married, the couple seeks to live a peaceful life free from further disputes. Both families are tense and worried following the unexpected love marriage.
Rekha and Kanhaiyalal have approached the local Superintendent of Police seeking protection from Rekha's family, though neither side has filed any legal complaints as of yet.

Delhi High Court refuses to stay release of movie Udaipur Files
Last Updated: New Delhi [India], August 8 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to stay the release of the Movie Udaipur Files. Mohd Javed, an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder, had approached the court seeking a stay on the release of the movie. This movie is set to hit theatres today. The division bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela refused to stay the release of the movie. Accused Mohd Javed had approached the High Court on Thursday seeking a stay on the release of the movie. He had claimed that his right to a fair trial would be affected if the movie were released. On Wedneday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) dismissed all revision petitions challenging the certification of the controversial film Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder, thereby clearing the path for its public release. This decision followed weeks of legal disputes, multiple appeals, and widespread public attention stemming from the film's alleged communal undertones and its depiction of matters still under judicial consideration. In its final ruling issued on August 6, 2025, the Ministry affirmed several key findings. The Revisional Authority determined that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had followed due process and committed no procedural errors in granting certification. It noted that the filmmakers had complied with the 55 cuts required by the CBFC and had also carried out additional voluntary edits. Furthermore, the order highlighted that no new evidence or compelling arguments had been presented to warrant a reversal of the certification. Invoking Section 6(2) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, the Ministry concluded that there was no legitimate basis to suspend or alter the classification of the film. It underscored that all concerned parties had been provided a fair chance to present their views during the proceedings. According to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Section 6 allows the government to cancel the certification of a film by the Censor Board and suspend its exhibition. The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) informed the Delhi High Court that the Central Government has decided to withdraw its directive recommending six cuts in the film 'Udaipur Files'. Noting the statement given by the Additional Solicitor General (ASG), the Delhi High Court disposed of two petitions seeking a stay on the release of the movie. The film 'Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder' has been in headlines lately, since the Delhi High Court ordered a stay on its release on July 11. The film is based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur who was brutally killed by two men in broad daylight. Earlier, last week, the High Court had directed the Central government to hear afresh the revisions and pass an High Court has directed that you appear before the Central Government. After hearing the revisional authority dismiss the revision on Wednesday. (ANI) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Delhi HC clears ‘Udaipur Files' for release today
The Delhi high court on Thursday refused to stay the release of the movie 'Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder', saying that the petitioner has failed to establish how irreparable loss would be caused to him if release is not stayed. The movie, produced by Amit Jani, is scheduled to hit the theatres on Friday. A screen-grab of 'Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder' (HT) The movie, which is based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, has been accused of vilifying the Muslim community. It was initially slated to be released on July 11, but was temporarily stayed by the Delhi high court on July 10. On July 21, the Centre cleared it for release, subject to the filmmaker carrying out six additional edits. However, on August 1,the Centre withdrew its order and passed a fresh order on August 6, upholding the movie's certification. On Thursday, the bench of chief justice DK Upadhyay and justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing the petition filed by Mohd Javed –– an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case –– who sought a stay on the release of the movie during the pendency of his writ challenging the Centre's August 6 order. Rejecting the plea, the court said the petitioner had failed to establish a prima facie case and the movie's screening would not prejudice his right to fair trial since the same would be conducted by the judge uninfluenced by what is being depicted in the movie. 'This court is of the view that the petitioner has not been able to establish a prima facie case in his favour and also that the exhibition of the film is not likely to cause any harm to the right of fair trial of the petitioner to seek fair trial in as much as the trial would be conducted by the learned judge uninfluenced by what is being depicted in the film on account of restraining the judge,' the bench said. Taking note of the amount invested by movie's producer Amit Jani, the court said: 'The producer has already invested a huge amount in producing the film as submitted by the counsel for the producer and he has spent his lifetime earnings in producing the film. Thus in case the exhibition of the film is stayed, at this juncture the balance of convenience will be disturbed which in our opinion lies in favour of the producer. We also opine that the petitioner has failed to establish that any irreparable loss will be caused to the petitioner if the movie is released. In view of the discussions made, we find ourselves unable to agree with the prayer made for grant of interim relief. The prayer made for staying the release of the film is hereby rejected.' A detailed copy of the verdict is yet to be released. The court, however, issued notice in Javed's plea against Centre's August 6 decision of clearing the movie for release and fixed October 16 as the next date of hearing. Javed, represented by senior advocate Maneka Guruswamy and advocate Saumya Dwivedi, had asserted that the release of the movie would prejudice his right to fair trial, since the same was at a nascent stage and had the likelihood of prejudicing the witnesses. 'This film says that I am a conspirator of murder. The dialogue setting is from the chargesheet. My role as ascribed in the chargesheet has been lifted and used in the film,' Guruswamy said, asserting that the court had only examined six witnesses and was yet to examine 160 more witnesses and the movie contained dialogues from the chargesheet. The movie, Guruswamy said, had an enormous amount of hate speech and the petition was dismissed mechanically without due application of mind and was devoid of a reasoned analysis for its rejection. The Centre, represented by additional solicitor general Chetan Sharma along with standing counsel Amit Tiwari had asserted that the order was issued after careful consideration and due application of mind by senior officials. The producer Amit Jani's counsel Gaurav Bhatia asserted that the movie had been re-certified pursuant to 61 cuts and an edited disclaimer and was produced pursuant to taking NOC from the victim's family and was based on the incident. He further submitted that Jani's intention was to not vilify any community and its message was 'positive.' A National Investigation Agency and the accused was charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The trial is pending before a special NIA court in Jaipur.

Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) The man who fired the stray bullet that killed 21-year-old Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa in Canada have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, an official said. Hamilton Police, who arrested 32-year-old Jerdaine Foster at Niagara Falls in Ontario on Tuesday, also charged him with three counts of attempted murder, CBC News quoted Acting Det-Sgt Daryl Reid as saying at a news conference. Randhawa, a second-year student enrolled in a physiotherapy course in Mohawk College, was hit by a stray bullet while standing near a bus stop at the intersection of Upper James Street and South Bend Road on April 17. At least seven people in four cars were involved in a dispute that led up to the shooting. Shots were fired between cars and at least two guns were involved, the report said. 'Harsimrat was an innocent bystander," the report quoted Reid as saying on Thursday, 'She was simply trying to make her way home from a local gym when she was struck and killed." No other arrests have been made in the case. 'The investigation is still ongoing, and we will do everything in our power to identify, locate and arrest all these people that are involved in this death," Reid said. He added that Foster, who has ties to Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions and lived in short-term rental properties, was previously known to police.
