Michigan State baseball 2B Ryan McKay named to second team All-Big Ten
Michigan State baseball has seen its 2025 regular season come to an end, and the Spartans are taking home some postseason honors.
First, Joseph Dzierwa was named as the Big Ten's Pitcher of the Year, while also earning first team All-Big Ten honors. Now, the Spartans have earned another postseason honor, this time infielder Ryan McKay was recognized.
McKay was recognized as a second team All-Big Ten member, showcasing the high quality season that the Clarkston (Mich.) native had. The sophomore starting second baseman was the leadoff hitter for MSU most of the season, slashing a .320 batting average to go along with a .423 on base percentage and a .495 slugging percentage.
Just two years into his collegiate career, the young Spartan is turning into a star in the college baseball world.

Jalen Williams visits China for Adidas event

It's August, which means the NBA has entered the driest part of its calendar for the next two months. Teams head to vacation with their offseason moves mostly finished. Most wait for training camp to prepare for the 2025-26 regular season. The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to enjoy their summer. They captured the NBA championship after a historic season this past June. When you bring home the Larry O'Brien trophy, you have the next few months to showboat the accomplishment as you wait to get your ring. One player who played an important role in the Thunder's championship run is Jalen Williams. The 24-year-old played through a torn wrist ligament that required pain-numbing shots before every playoff game. He scored 40 points in a decisive Game 5 win over the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals. Still sporting a wrist cast, Williams traveled across the globe. He landed in China for an Adidas event. Arriving at the airport, he was welcomed by a sea of fans who wanted to see the All-NBA player in person. He recorded a video of the crowd and posted it on his Instagram story. Adidas has a handful of players who travel to China in the offseason to represent their brand. Considering Williams' ascension into one of the league's best players, it shouldn't be surprising to see him assigned for the international visit. The NBA has had strong support in China over the years. As the Thunder have been a title contender for most of the last two decades and are fresh off a championship, their international support should be surprisingly large for a small-market franchise.

Correa plays 1st game in Houston since trade as Bregman visits for 1st time since joining Red Sox

HOUSTON — Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman were back at Daikin Park on Monday. But while Correa was making his triumphant return home after the recent blockbuster trade that brought him back to the Houston Astros from the Minnesota Twins, Bregman was in the ballpark for the first time as a visitor after signing with the Boston Red Sox this offseason. Monday is the opener of a three-game series between the teams. 'That adds an extra little bit of what it's going to mean for our fans,' Houston manager Joe Espada said. 'Both players, what they've done for this organization, it's incredible, right? Bregman, he's one of the best players that ever wore this uniform, and now we get Carlos back, coming in here and (helping) us win the division. It's going to be electric here.' Bregman, drafted second overall by the Astros in 2015, spent his first nine seasons in Houston where he helped the team to eight playoff berths, including seven trips to the AL Championship Series, four World Series appearances and two championships. The third baseman was named an All-Star twice in Houston, won a Gold Glove last season and a Silver Slugger Award in 2019 when he came in second in AL MVP voting. Bregman was asked about the timing of them both returning to Houston on the same day. 'I was shocked at the news during the trade deadline and it was awesome and it looks like he's fit right back in,' Bregman said. 'He's a great player, a leader, great teammate. It's always difficult to compete against him because he's such a good competitor, but we're gonna give it our best shot today.' Correa, who waived his no-trade clause to return to Houston, is back after playing for the Twins since 2022. The top pick in the 2012 draft, he spent his first eight seasons with the Astros, pairing with Bregman for many of those years to transform the Astros from league laughingstock to perennial contender. He's been great in the nine games since the trade and entered Monday batting .405 with 15 hits, including two homers and six RBIs. He said returning to the team where his career began after being gone for four years is surreal. 'It's a second chance to come back here and put on this uniform and it's a chance that I will never take for granted,' he said. 'I'm gonna go out there and give it my best every single day I go out there.' Correa, who has been slowed by injuries in recent years, said he's feeling rejuvenated since rejoining the Astros and moving to third base after spending his entire career playing shortstop. 'Being at third base I don't get as tired, so I feel like my legs are a lot fresher,' he said. Bregman, who spent years playing third base in Houston while Correa was at shortstop, has no doubt that he'll excel at his new position. 'He's going to do great over there,' Bregman said. 'He's got an incredible arm. We always used to say if he catches the ball, the guy is out because of how good the arm is and he's going to make the transition great. He's a Platinum Glove winner at shortstop, so third base should be pretty easy for him.' Though Bregman faced the Astros recently in Boston when the Red Sox swept a three-game series, he admitted that Monday would be emotional because of all the memories he made here. He spoke of what stuck out to him the most from his time in Houston. 'I'd say the championships and just seeing how resilient the city is and how it comes together when times are tough,' he said. 'And the people are great, my teammates, the coaches, everything, all the memories in the clubhouse, busting our tail trying to find a way to win a baseball game every single day, the everyday grind of it, it was fun for us.' As for Correa, he's soaking up every minute of being back with the team. The best part, he said, is reuniting with close friend and second baseman Jose Altuve. 'As soon as I got to Boston, I gave him a big hug and I told him I missed him,' Correa said. 'He's an unbelievable player, but the human side of it, I get to hang out with him after the games, we get to go eat after the games (and) we just talk shop. It's something that I definitely missed a lot and I get to do it again so I'm not gonna take it for granted.' Altuve shares his sentiments. 'I'm really excited he's back,' he said. 'I really enjoyed my time playing with him and I'm going to enjoy playing with him again and we're all excited about him.'

Caitlin Clark progressing in recovery from groin injury, still not practicing

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White said Monday that All-Star guard Caitlin Clark is progressing from an injured right groin but still is not practicing. Clark has not played since suffering the injury in the final minute of an 85-77 victory over Connecticut on July 15. Team officials have already ruled her out of Tuesday's matchup against rookie Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. There's still no timetable for when one of the league's most popular players could return. 'No return to practice, she's been able to get a little bit more of her full-court running with all of her body weight,' White said following practice. 'It's really building up from doing minimal to building some endurance to do longer periods of time. She's been able to do a little more on the court in terms of how she moves, but not into practice shape.' Clark began full-court running last week. Three different muscle injuries have forced Clark to miss 19 of 32 games. Indiana is 10-9 without Clark including a 6-2 mark over its last eight games — despite losing two more guards, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, with season-ending injuries. Colson suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during last week's loss at Phoenix. McDonald will be out with a broken bone in her right foot, which happened in the same game. Yet with only nine active players and no true point guards, Indiana still managed to rout the rival Chicago Sky 92-70 on Saturday. The Fever signed Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract Sunday. Sims averaged 11.2 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds during her 11-year career, which included an All-Star selection in 2019. Clark, last season's WNBA Rookie of the Year, was averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds before her latest injury. The Fever went all-in on putting a title-winning supporting cast around Clark during the offseason. And even with Clark out, Indiana is 18-14 and fifth in the league standings, close enough to still be in the mix for home-court advantage in the first round.
