Cartel queenpin dubbed 'The Fat Lady' finally caught after rival's brutal murder

A drug cartel boss known as 'The Fat Lady' has finally been arrested in a huge raid where cops discovered drugs, a gun, and phones - this comes months after a rival crime boss was brutally murdered
A drug cartel queenpin dubbed 'La Gorda' - 'The Fat Lady' - has finally been caught after the brutal death of her rival.
Beatriz Sánchez Martínez, a leader within the Tláhuac Cartel based in Mexico, was taken down by police in a huge bust which also saw authorities seize a sea of narcotics, a shotgun and other valuables. This surprise takedown came three months after a rival gang leader, known as 'Aunt Fany', was found dead inside her vehicle. The crime boss' body was savagely covered in bullet wounds. Police revealed the two gangs had been clashing over drug sales points in their controlled areas.

Martínez was caught by police yesterday along with her drug empire accomplice Carlos Chávez Vargas. Shocking images showed the haul of illegal drugs and goods cops found during the bust at Martínez's home.
It included 263 doses of cocaine, 200 doses of methamphetamine, 50 grams of probable methamphetamine, a short firearm, three cartridges and a mobile phone. Police also found 399 apparent doses of cocaine and two phones where Vargas was caught, according to Infobae.
Cops searched three other properties believed to be safe houses and drug distribution sites linked to 'The Fat Lady'. This huge operation came months after the brutal death of enemy cartel boss 'Aunt Fany' on February 25, 2025.
Mexican police have accused Vargas of murdering 'Aunt Fany' on Martínez's orders. The brutal killing could have been the gang's way of taking out the competition following fierce arguments about drug sales.
Following the death of 'Aunt Fany', her gang appears to have split into factions and is violently operating in several neighbourhoods, even without their crime leader.

'The Fat Lady' and Vargas are now facing a long list of serious charges including drug possession, trafficking, carrying firearms, and extortion. Vargas is also being investigated for possible aggravated homicide.
These arrests come after terrifying reports that some Mexican drug cartels are running training camps where hitmen are forced to eat their victims' hearts. These camps reportedly lie in hidden mountainous areas while criminals recruit young men into trafficking "schools".
A young man who was recruited into one of these camps said he was given a rifle and told to kill his brother at one point. He explained the lure of mega cash for many young people convinces them to join the training camps. He added that he was recruited at just 13 years old.

Mexican cartel decapitates pregnant teen and puts head in cooler as 'message'

A pregnant teenage girls' remains were found scattered amongst random vessels in Tabasco as fears surge surrounding the spate of women targeted by organised criminals A pregnant 16-year-old girl was kidnapped, tortured, murdered and decapitated by a Mexican drug cartel, with her head left in a cooler to send a message. Noemí's head was found in Tabasco as gang violence continues to plague the region. It comes as questions still surround the kidnapping and murder of Irma Hernández Cruz in Veracruz. On Thursday, July 24, a white Styrofoam cooler was found on the Vía Corta Cunduacán–La Isla highway, near the Juárez Autonomous University of Tabasco. Inside, authorities found a human head wrapped in a black bag, along with a narco-message written by a local criminal group. It comes after a doctor was decapitated by lift in a hospital accident as colleague watched in horror. Days later, relatives identified the young victim: Noemí "N," 16. She had been missing for days before her discovery. RLocal media reports indicate that Noemí was pregnant at the time of the crime. The teenager was abducted in the La Libertad community, tortured, and ultimately decapitated. The rest of the body was found in a plastic drum floating in the Samaria River, also in Cunduacán. Investigations continue into her remains. Authorities have not commented or detailed any possible motives or progress in the investigation. The case raised alarms beyond Tabasco. Activists and groups of victims' families strongly criticized the authorities' inaction and complicity. Brayan LeBaron , a renowned anti-violence activist, wrote on social media: 'Children are not messengers of fear. In Tabasco, Noemí was beheaded; she was a 16-year-old girl. Her fate was to end up in a cooler, and her life was used to send a message that seeks to continue sowing terror. The worst thing is that our children are paying for this complicity with their lives. We cannot allow our children to end up being the messengers of fear.' Meanwhile, Ceci Flores , from the Madres Buscadoras collective of Sonora, spoke to the family's grief: "There is no greater pain than that felt when you lose a child, but it is multiplied when you know that their farewell was filled with suffering and fear and you weren't there to defend them." Noemí's and Irma Hernández Cruz, highlights concerns surrounding women's safety in Mexican communities facing gang violence amid extreme methods used by organised criminals to instill fear and maintain territorial control. Questions remain regarding how these women can be protected.

Eddie Hearn ‘fuming' as he reveals fresh twist in Francisco Rodriguez drug-test case

Eddie Hearn has said he is 'fuming' upon learning that Francisco Rodriguez's failed drug test after beating Galal Yafai was the Mexican's second in six months. The Matchroom boss revealed he found out that Rodriguez Jr failed a drug test on the same day as his fight with Josue Jesus Morales in Texas last December. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has since confirmed to The Independent that Rodriguez did test positive, with the bout subsequently changed to a No Contest. Hearn told iFL TV: 'I'm fuming, I found out last night that Francisco Rodriguez Jr also failed a drug test in his fight before Galal Yafai. I went onto his BoxRec and noticed it was a No Contest in Texas. We reached out to the Texas commission, who confirmed he failed a drug test.' Rodriguez set a new flyweight record for punches landed in a fight on his way to defeating Yafai – 575 in total, over 100 more than the previous record. As Rodriguez Jr has failed drug tests in his last two fights, Hearn has urged the WBC not to order the rematch, as they are putting Yafai in a dangerous position, given he already took heavy punishment in the first fight. Hearn said: 'You've just put Galal Yafai in a position where he has fought a man with performance-enhancing drugs in his system over 12 rounds. Physically, he took a beating that night. That guy has failed tests in his last two fights. Whatever you do, do not order this rematch.' Yafai's promoter also questioned the due diligence of the sanctioning body for clearing Rodriguez in two weeks. Hearn explained: 'How do we get in a situation where, in two weeks of the news breaking about the test: he's gone through a process and they've decided it was an accident, he was unlucky, and the fight was a No Contest, the titles are vacant, but he gets to do it again?' After an investigation into his failed post-fight drug test, the WBC found that Rodriguez's 'ingestion of a banned substance was accidental, unintentional, unknowing, and not directed to enhance his performance' against Yafai. They stripped him of his interim title and ordered a rematch, as well as enrolling him in a WBC nutrition programme. Kenshiro Teraji is the current WBC champion in the flyweight division, and Hearn believes the appropriate course of action would be to make Yafai the mandatory challenger for Teraji's title. He said: 'Do what is right, which is to make Galal Yafai the mandatory challenger for the world title. This is a disgrace, that Galal Yafai has to rematch this guy.'
