24 Houses, 4 Plots: Assets Worth Rs 30 Crore Seized From Karnataka Official
The Lokayukta officials on Friday raided the residence of a former clerk at the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) and found unaccounted assets worth over Rs 30 crore.
The officials found out that Kalakappa Nidagundi, who worked in Koppal and had a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, owned twenty-four houses, four plots, and 40 acres of farmland.
Four vehicles, 350 grams of gold, and 1.5 kg of silver were also recovered during the raids.
The properties were in his name, his wife's, and her brother's.
Nidagundi and an ex-KRIDL engineer, ZM Chincholkar, allegedly siphoned off over Rs 72 crore by faking documents for 96 incomplete projects.
Lokayukta Raids
The Lokayukta sleuths have been raiding government officials accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
On Tuesday, they conducted searches at places linked to five government officials in Hassan, Chikkabalapura, Chitradurga and Bengaluru.
The officers who came under Lokayukta's radar were Jayanna R, Executive Engineer, NHAI Division, Hassan; Anjaneya Murthy M Junior Englneer, Rural Drinking Water and Sanitisation Department Chikkabalapura; Dr Venkatesh, Taluk Health officer, Hiriyur, Chitradurga; N Venkatesh, Revenue Officer, BBMP Dasarahalli sub-division, Shettihalli in Bengaluru; and K Om Prakash Senior, Assistant Horticultue Director, BDA Head Office in Bengaluru.
On July 23, they carried out searches in premises linked to eight officials, including an IAS officer, in a disproportionate assets case and recovered wealth worth Rs 37.42 crore.
The raids were conducted at 41 locations linked to the officers posted in Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi, Koppal and Kodagu districts.
Among those raided was IAS officer Vasanthi Amar B V, who serves as Special Deputy Commissioner at the Railway Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka (K-RIDE). She was also responsible for the land acquisition for the Bengaluru Sub-urban Railway Project (BSRP).
During searches at five places linked to Vasanthi, officials recovered assets worth Rs 9.03 crore, including three sites, four houses, three acres of agricultural land to the tune of Rs 7.4 crore, ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh, and vehicles worth Rs 90 lakh.

CM orders mandatory retirement for nine police inspectors
Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Wednesday ordered the mandatory retirement of nine police inspectors from the home department, in what was deemed as the govt's strict stance against "incompetence, indolence, and unsatisfactory performance" of state govt employees. Sharma also allowed initiation of proceedings under Rule 8 of the All-India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1969 against a Rajasthan cadre IAS officer in connection with a serious case of illegal land allocation. He also resolved old cases pertaining to retired officers, deciding to withhold pensions of five persons under the pension rules, ordering that 100% pension be withheld in the case of one officer convicted in a corruption case. Reviewing 37 cases of pending disciplinary action and prosecution approval, Sharma ordered action against 55 officers who are under investigation. He also approved investigation findings of certified charges against 14 retired officers. Among other actions, Sharma granted prosecution sanction against six officers and permitted detailed investigation under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 against two officers of the Rajasthan Administrative and Accounts Service. Thirteen serving officers were also slapped with orders to withhold annual salary increments pending departmental investigations.

6 PHED engrs served notice over 150 crore tubewell scam in Jalore
Jaipur: Public health engineering department (PHED) has issued notices to six engineers of the department, including a retired engineer, for alleged involvement in a scam of Rs 150 crore. Officials said these engineers reportedly gave Operations and Maintenance (O&M) tenders to two firms for more than 900 tubewells in Jalore district when they were entitled to O&M of only 20 tubewells. "We took up the issue with PHED minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary. Following his instructions, we are going to take major steps against these accused engineers. We will also lodge complaints with police in this regard," disclosed a senior PHED official Wednesday. An official of the department claimed that the accused—then executive engineers Umesh Kumar Meena, Shyam Bihari Bairwa, Jitendra Trivedi, Hemant Kumar Bairwa, Ashish Dwivedi (retd), and Hemant Kumar Vaishnav—gave the work orders for O&M of 981 tubewells on Aug 12, 2022, to two firms—MM Construction and MS Raj Enterprise. "In gross violation of norms, the then superintendent engineer of the circle issued this work order for 981 tubewells. The two firms should have got work orders for only 20 tubewells. For the last three years, the department is unnecessarily wasting money on O&M expenditure for such a huge number of additional tubewells. The department has also blacklisted the two firms," the official added. Investigation revealed that PHED bore O&M expenditure for around 3,500 tubewells in Jalore for the last three years, when the actual number of tubewells of the department in the district was only close to 1,500.

Italian tourists robbed on board Mandore Express
Jaipur: Two foreign tourists were robbed aboard the Mandore Express traveling from Delhi to Jodhpur Tuesday night. Officials said that a family of five Italian tourists were travelling in two separate cabins with three in one and two in another cabin. According to reports, the tourists had boarded the train from Jaipur. Shortly after departure, they discovered that two of their bags, placed near their seats in the First AC coach, had gone missing. The stolen items included Rs 2 lakh, Apple AirPods, an Apple Pencil, and important documents. "We were asleep and woke up to find our bags missing. Everything important was inside, money, gadgets, papers," said the victims. They immediately alerted the train's ticket examiner and security personnel. Upon arriving at Jodhpur Railway Station, the tourists filed an FIR at the Railway Protection Force (RPF) police station. Both RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams have now launched an investigation. Senior DCM Jodhpur Vikas Kheda reached the station and met with the victims. "This is a serious matter.
