Sreeja Akula's Jaipur Patriots Qualify For UTT Season 6 Semis After 9-6 Victory Over Pune Jaguars
Jeet Chandra kicked things off in thrilling fashion for Jaipur, blocking out Anirban Ghosh's counter-punching style to secure a 2‑1 victory.
Dutchwoman Britt Eerland followed with a similar flair, taking the first two games before Pune's Reeth Rishya took the third on Golden Point.
These tight victories gave Jaipur a critical buffer heading into the mixed doubles, where Jeet and Eerland responded to a setback and a 0‑1 deficit to take games two and three 11‑6, 11‑7.
Their win confirmed Jaipur's spot in the semi-finals, marking their first-ever qualification into UTT's final four.
Pune's Alvaro Robles struck back with a composed 2‑1 victory over Yashansh Malik in the second men's singles, adding urgency to their playoff pursuit.
However, Sreeja closed the tie in style and ended Pune's hopes of a semis berth; undefeated through all five league-stage matches, she dominated her clash with South Korea's Zion Lee 2‑1, securing Jaipur's 9‑6 win.
For their starring role in Jaipur's victory, Jeet was named the Indian Player of the Tie and Eerland the Foreign Player of the Tie.
Zion's round-the-net shot in her singles rubber versus Sreeja earned her the Shot of the Tie honour.

Golden Rush For Nagpur Shuttlers, Sankalp Becomes Men's State Champion, Ritika, Nikkita and Nehal Dominate Doubles
1 2 Nagpur: Finally, Nagpur shuttlers delivered and in a big way. Of the five titles on offer in the Nandu Natekar Memorial Maharashtra State Senior Badminton Championship, as many as four Nagpur shuttlers stamped their authority in the three finals at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on Wednesday. Sankalp Gurala ended a four-year wait for a Nagpur shuttler to emerge as the Maharashtra state men's singles champion. The city's doubles specialists, Ritika Thaker, Nikkita Joseph, and Nehal Gosavi, clinched the mixed and women's doubles titles, respectively. In the men's singles final, Sankalp made light work of Thane's Sarvesh Yadav in straight games, 21-16, 21-13, to emerge as the new Maharashtra champion. Earlier, in a thrill-a-minute semifinal, Sankalp surprised star Pune shuttler and top seed Varun Kapur, 16-21, 21-17, 25-23. Displaying grit, consistency, and tactical brilliance, Sankalp rallied from a game down to stun the experienced Kapur in a pulsating semifinal. Speaking with TOI Sankalp said, "The feeling of winning the senior state championship after a long time is absolutely surreal. It's a mix of immense happiness, overwhelming pride, and a deep sense of gratitude. Holding this title is more than just a personal victory; it's a testament to years of hard work, dedication, and unwavering support. Representing Nagpur on this stage has been the highest honour." In a dramatic mixed doubles title clash, Nagpur's Ritika Thaker paired up with Thane's Deep Rambhiya to register yet another come-from-behind victory. The second-seeded duo stunned top seeds Aman Farogh Sanjay and Anagha Karandikar in three thrilling games, 29-30, 23-21, 21-13. Despite losing the first game of the final, which went down to the wire in the golden point rule, 29-30, the Nagpur-Thane express of Ritika and Deep kept their cool and brought parity in the summit clash by winning the second game, 23-21. In the deciding game, the top-seeded Thane pair of Aman and Anagha gave an aggressive display and raced away to an 11-5 lead before the break. The change of sides favoured Ritika and Deep as they completely changed their game with perfect placements and deft touches mixed with aggression to level the scores at 12-12. No sooner than they brought parity in the decider, the Nagpur-Thane duo grew in confidence and sealed the fate of the top seeds, with Ritika starting to make openings and Deep giving a perfect finish to clinch the deciding third game, 21-13, and emerge as the new mixed doubles state champions. In the semifinals on Tuesday, Ritika and Deep recorded a come-from-behind victory. Nagpur's promising duo of Nehal Gosavi and Nikkita Joseph displayed outstanding coordination and fighting spirit to clinch the women's doubles crown for their maiden senior state title. After strong straight-game wins in the earlier rounds and a tough semifinal outing, Nehal and Nikkita held their nerve in the final and surprised Pune's second seeds, Shruti Mundada and Tanishka Deshpande, 21-19, 20-22, 21-17, to complete Nagpur's golden rush in the senior state championships. Secretary of the Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA), Mangesh Kashikar, termed the achievement as "a landmark moment for Nagpur Badminton." Kashikar said, "With three championship titles—Men's Singles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles—Nagpur shuttlers have firmly asserted their dominance at the state level. This remarkable feat highlights the city's rising stature in Maharashtra badminton and serves as an inspiration for upcoming players from the region. Sanju Samson Wants To Leave Rajasthan Royals Because...
Last Updated: According to a report, there have apparently been many differences between RR and Samson, one of which was the management's decision to release Jos Buttler. Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is part of the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League. He was retained for Rs 18 crore by the Jaipur-based franchise ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions. In the 2025 edition of IPL, Samson played nine matches and, with the help of one half-century, scored 285 runs. After a disappointing 2025 season where the Royals finished ninth in the points table, it was reported that Samson wants to part ways with the Rajasthan Royals. According to a report in Cricbuzz last week, Samson formally requested to be traded or released into the auction. And on Wednesday (August 13), it was reported by the publication that 'there have apparently been many issues of differences between RR and Samson, one of which was the management's decision to release Jos Buttler." The former England white-ball captain was not retained by the Jaipur-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction despite him scoring 3055 runs in 83 matches for the Royals in seven IPL seasons. 'Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years," Samson had told Star Sports before last IPL season. After being released by Royals, Buttler entered the IPL 2025 mega auction and he was signed for Rs 15.75 crore by Gujarat Titans. In IPL 2025, Buttler played 14 matches for the Shubman Gill-led side and scored 538 runs. RR want Jadeja or Gaikwad Royals are ready to trade Samson ahead of IPL 2026 auction and according to a report the inaugural edition winners have written to multiple franchises to enquire about their interest in signing Samson. It has been reported that RR owner Manoj Badale has even 'mentioned the names of specific players from different franchises that the Royals are keen on, in exchange for Samson." According to the available information, in exchange for Samson, RR have asked for Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad from Chennai Super Kings, but the Chennai-based franchise is not ready to entertain. All-rounder Shivam Dube, who has played for RR in the past, is also among the players the Royals are interested in signing from CSK as part of the Samson deal, but CSK are unwilling to part with the India all-rounder either. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
