Target Recall Update as Consumers Told to Immediately Stop Using Products

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Target has warned customers to stop using various products they purchased from the retailer due to safety concerns. The products were manufactured by various companies but sold in Target stores nationwide or on its website. Some of the products include a potentially dangerous pressure cooker lid that could cause burns and a cooler that poses a "fingertip amputation" risk. Newsweek reached out to Target via email for comment. Why It Matters Recalls are issued if there are concerns that a product may be harmful in some way, such as when testing reveals that products are infected with potentially deadly bacteria, or amid fears that foods could be contaminated with a foreign object from the manufacturing process. Consumers have various rights when an item they've purchased is hit by a recall, with food recalls typically offering full refunds. A Target store in Jersey City, New Jersey, as seen on May 17, 2025. A Target store in Jersey City, New Jersey, as seen on May 17, 2025. Getty Images What To Know Target alerts its customers to any current or ongoing product recalls on its website. Various items were pulled from shelves back in March, ranging from fears that teething sticks could be a choking hazard to concerns about the particular batteries in a microphone potentially overheating and igniting. The most recent news from the retail chain reveals that three product recalls have been issued since May, with two recalls occurring last month and one in the first week of June: BowFlex 552 Adjustable Dumbbells and BowFlex 1090 Adjustable Dumbbells, recalled on June 5 The exercise weights were sold in stores and online. Shoppers were told that they should "immediately stop using [them]," with the retailer warning: "The weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing an impact hazard." Customers should contact Johnson Health Tech Trading or BowFlex Inc. to request a refund and return the items, Target said. Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, recalled on May 8 This cooler, which is set on wheels with a pull-handle, has been recalled because the "tow handle can pinch consumers' fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards." Customers who bought the coolers were urged to "contact Igloo for a free replacement handle." SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers, recalled on May 1 Target customers were warned to "immediately stop using the product's pressure-cooking function and contact SharkNinja for a free replacement lid. Consumers can continue to use the product's air frying and other functions." The retailers said the reason for the lid replacement is due to a fault with the existing pressure cooker lid, which "can be opened during use, causing hot contents to escape, posing a risk of burn injuries to consumers." What People Are Saying Target, in a statement on its website: "At Target, our purpose is to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. It is who we are, how we work, and what we value. Our guests, your safety, is our highest priority. For this reason, we maintain a comprehensive list of our recalled products." What Happens Next Customers should follow the relevant advice provided by Target for each product recall and continue to check Target's website for the most up-to-date recall notices.

Donald Trump's Approval Rating Plunges

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump's approval rating has taken a plunge, according to new polling. The latest J.L. Partners/Daily Mail poll, conducted on June 6 among 1,006 registered voters, found that 47 percent of respondents approve of the president's job performance, while 53 percent disapprove, giving him a net approval rating of -6 points. That is down from an approval rating of 50 percent in May. However, it is still up from the 45 percent approval rating recorded in the J.L. Partners/Daily Mail April poll, a second-term low. Both polls had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. The latest YouGov/Economist poll, conducted between June 6 and 9 among 1,533 adults, shows Trump's approval rating at 43 percent, down from 45 percent the previous week, while his disapproval rating stands at 52 percent, up from 49 percent the week before. The most recent poll had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. Why It Matters Recent surveys have shown Trump's approval rating creeping back up after a period of decline following the introduction of his "Liberation Day" tariffs in April, which led to a decline in the stock market. However, some polls published in recent days reveal a more complex picture of Trump's support. President Donald Trump speaks during a roundtable with business leaders at the White House on June 9, 2025. Evan Vucci/AP What To Know While some polls show Trump's approval rating declining, they stand apart from the general trend recently, which has seen his approval rating creep back up in recent weeks after the fallout from his "Liberation Day" tariffs. That includes the most recent ActiVote poll, which showed that Trump's approval rating stands at 46 percent, while 50 percent disapprove. That is up from last month, when 45 percent approved and 51 percent disapproved, and breaks a trend that had seen Trump's approval ratings in the poll decline each month since January. The numbers from May are also significantly better than Trump's average over the 48 months of his first presidency (41 percent), surpassing former President Joe Biden's average approval rating for his full term (41 percent) and his approval rating for his final year (40 percent). The ActiVote poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. In the latest YouGov/Economist poll, Trump's approval rating increased by 1 point to 45 percent, while his disapproval rating decreased by 3 points to 49 percent. Meanwhile, in the Trafalgar Group's latest poll, conducted May 30 to June 1, 54 percent of voters approved, while 46 percent disapproved—a net approval rating of +8. That was up from a month ago, when a survey conducted by pollsters with Insider Advantage between April 30 and May 1 put Trump's approval rating at 46 percent, while 44 percent disapproved. Newsweek's poll tracker also shows Trump's approval rating trending upward. Currently, an average of 48 percent approve of Trump's job performance, while 50 percent disapprove. Last week, Trump's approval rating stood at 47 percent, with 49 percent disapproving. A month ago, according to the tracker, the president's approval rating stood at 44 percent, while his disapproval rate was firmly in the 50s. However, for the most part, Trump's approval and disapproval ratings appear stable or slightly improving, suggesting that while he's not gaining significant new support, he's also not losing ground. Poll Date Approve Disapprove Rasmussen 9-Jun 51 48 YouGov/Economist June 6-9 43 52 Morning Consult June 6-8 47 51 J.L. Partners 6-Jun 47 53 YouGov/CBS June 4-6 45 55 Quantus Insights June 1-4 49 48 RMG Research May 27-June 3 51 46 YouGov/Economist May 30-June 2 45 49 Morning Consult May 30-June 2 46 51 Trafalgar Group May 30-June 1 54 46 The latest Quantus Insights poll put his approval rating at 49 percent, up one from last month, while his disapproval rating remained at 48 percent. In the most recent Morning Consult poll, the president's approval rating stood at 47 percent, up from 46 percent the previous week. In comparison, 51 percent said they disapproved of his job performance for the third consecutive week. In the latest CBS/YouGov poll, Trump's approval rating was unchanged at 45 percent, while 55 percent disapproved for a second month running What Happens Next As the effects of his economic, immigration and other major policies come into sharper relief, Trump's approval rating is likely to fluctuate.

Woman Visits Gym Every Week, but There's a Twist: 'Need This'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A savvy woman has shared the only reason she goes to the gym once a week—and it isn't to work out. The TikTok clip, shared by @almillishit, has gathered 4.6 million views and 316,400 likes. It shows a spray tan machine, and the text overlaid explains that she pays $25 a month for a fitness membership "just to get a weekly spray and never actually work out." The Delaware-based woman told another user: "I'm genuinely so lucky [and] grateful." Some users expressed their envy, and said: "So jealous. Mine only has tanning booths!!!" Many users are impressed with the woman's money-saving hack, as the average cost of a spray tan is generally between $25 and $60, according to The Knot. "That's cheaper than the tanning bed I pay for at the salon each month," said one user, and another wrote: "Damn. I just paid $40 for one level 1 spray tan." "This should be it instead of the tanning beds," suggested a third user. In the comments, the woman tells another user that she is "scared" of sunbeds, most likely because sunlamps and sunbeds—including tanning beds and booths—are classified as known human carcinogens. A stock image of women using her phone in a gym. A stock image of women using her phone in a gym. Oscar Gutierrez Zozulia/iStock / Getty Images Plus Are Spray Tans Safe? According to the American Cancer Society, the amount and type of ultraviolet (UV) radiation a person receives from tanning beds depend on several factors: the type of lamps used, the duration of exposure, and the frequency of use. Most tanning beds primarily emit UVA rays, with a smaller proportion being UVB, which is a risk factor for all types of skin cancer. As a safer alternative, many people opt for sunless tanning methods such as fake tan products or sprays. These products work by interacting with proteins on the surface of the skin to create a temporary darkening effect, mimicking a natural tan. Like a real tan, the color gradually fades over several days. Most sunless tanning products contain an FDA-approved ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a color additive used specifically for external application. When used correctly, these products are generally considered safe. However, the American Cancer Society cautions that DHA should only be used on the skin's surface and not: Inhaled through the nose or mouth. Ingested. Applied to areas with mucous membranes (such as the eyes, nose, or lips). If you're considering using a sunless tanning product, consult your doctor—especially if you have sensitive skin or health concerns. It's also important to note that most of these products do not provide sun protection. Even if a product contains sunscreen, its effectiveness typically lasts only a few hours. To reduce the risk of skin damage and skin cancer, continue using broad-spectrum sunscreen and wearing protective clothing when spending time outdoors. Newsweek has reached out to @almillishit for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the case. Do you have any clever hacks you use to make life easier (or cheaper) that you want to share? Send them to life@ with some details and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup.
