The end of May is a bit of a different animal on streaming platforms. It seems like every week in recent memory, we've seen the beginning of some sort of high-profile dramatic series on one streaming platform or another. And while some of those shows are still ongoing, most notably Peacock's Poker Face, there's a bit less 'new' in that regard this week.
That's not to say there isn't some absolutely great stuff you won't want to miss. It's just a fairly eclectic list, and while it's unlikely you'll be interested in everything debuting this week, there's almost certain to be at least one thing to check out.
Travel shows aren't everybody's cup of tea, but rarely have we seen one that's hosted by somebody as engaging as the great Stanley Tucci. The NatGeo documentary series, also available with a Disney+ subscription, Tucci in Italy, a follow-up to his previous Searching For Italy series, sees the actor explore the nation via its food. Get ready to be very hungry.
Brett Favre was once one of the biggest stars in the world of professional football, but as the title suggests, The Fall of Brett Favre will be looking at a different side of the athlete, including alleged off-the-field misdeeds, including a reported mishandling of government money for his own benefit.
The first season of Nine Perfect Strangers only got middle-of-the-road reviews, but it clearly did something right as it's back for a second season. A new star-studded cast and a new location form around Nicole Kidman as a guru with some unorthodox methods to help people heal.
Late May is prime summer movie season, and while that usually means having to go to a theater, one new film that seems just perfect for this time of year will only be available with an Apple TV+ subscription. Fountain of Youth stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as siblings searching for the fabled source of eternal youth. Guy Ritchie directed what feels like the closest thing to National Treasure 3 we're likely to get.
It's a good idea in general for horror fans to have a Netflix subscription, and that's especially the case this week. R.L. Stine's Fear Street books have been turned into films three times previously, and each time with solid results. Now, get ready for the fourth installment, Prom Queen.
A generation grew up with Pee-wee Herman, but the actor and comedian's untimely death robbed fans of years of fun. A new two-part documentary series, Pee-wee as Himself, available with a Max subscription, will take fans inside the head of Pee-Wee Herman, quite literally, as it will include significant interviews with Paul Reubens made before he passed away.
Pamela Anderson was one of the hottest stars of the 1990s, but she came roaring back to the screens last year in The Last Showgirl. Anderson won numerous awards for her portrayal of an aging showgirl, showing just what a great actress she's always been. You can now check out her performance with a Hulu subscription.
Next week sees May come to an end and June get started. If nothing else, this will mean a flood of library content hitting most streaming services, so check back here so we can help you make sense of it all.

Forget The Studio –Seth Rogen's other Apple TV+ show is back next

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. I'm a huge fan of Seth Rogen's work with Apple TV+ – which is to say, I absolutely loved The Studio. I think it's one of the most exciting new shows for years, not least because it captures some of the spirit of Curb Your Enthusiasm with its deliberately awkward cameos and caricatures of celebrities. I'll hold my hands up, though, and admit that I haven't watched the other show Rogen made with Apple TV+, which came out a good while before The Studio. In fact, Platonic is now about to get its second season, starring Rogen opposite the terrific Rose Byrne as their rekindled friendship continues with more hijinks. The show's all about the ruts that we can find ourselves in as adult life takes its toll – it's not very hard to wake up and realise that you haven't actually spoken to someone you used to call one of your best friends for years. The first season saw Rogen and Byrne's characters reconnect and realise that they still had more in common than they might have thought. Now, their friendship might just be going to the next level in a new season. It'll feature the two of them trying to make their relationship less exclusionary to their partners and friends, folding them into activities in an attempt to retain a healthy balance between the various parts of their lives. Image 1 of 5 Image 2 of 5 Image 3 of 5 Image 4 of 5 Image 5 of 5 As glimpsed in the teaser trailer last month, that'll involve going golfing with disastrous consequences, but also Rogen attempting to bond with Byrne's gym-happy fitness enthusiast of a partner, and the start of "couple's dinners" to cement things. It's a balancing act that will clearly leave a lot of room for slapstick, too. So, I know what my job is now – I've added the first season of Platonic to my watchlist on Apple TV+ (which I think is the best streaming service going), and I'll be trying to catch up with it when I have a chance. The new season starts on 6 August, so I'm not sure I'll make that date, but it's nice to know I've got more goodness in store. Solve the daily Crossword

James Cameron Wants to Expand the World of AVATAR with an Animated Anthology Project — GeekTyrant

The world of Avatar might be expanding once again but this time in animated form. James Cameron, the mastermind behind Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water , is eyeing a whole new medium to explore Pandora's rich mythology. While some fans are counting down the days until Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters this December, Cameron is already planting seeds for a potential animated anthology series that could dive deeper into the untold stories of his sci-fi universe. Speaking with Empire Magazine, Cameron revealed he's been talking with Disney about launching an Avatar animated project. He shared his vision saying: 'I said, 'Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that's essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn't have expected from that world.' There might even be an animated feature in there – it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature. 'A good early example is The Animatrix, where they went afield in the Matrix world. These are all great examples for how we can add texture and baroque detail to the world of Avatar.' What Cameron's talking about sounds incredibly cool. He's not just thinking about rehashing the same characters or events. He wants to go wide with it. Deep cuts. Backstories. Side quests. The kind of lore expansions that fans eat up. 'Backstory on characters and tangential stuff that happened off-camera within the movies. Who first landed on Pandora? The first expedition. You could go anywhere you want.' Of course, this idea is still in early development and hasn't moved past the brainstorming phase. 'We haven't done much with that yet. We're still gathering our stories and that sort of thing, and I've got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it.' So while there's no official greenlight yet, just knowing Cameron is serious about bringing more Avatar stories to life in animation is pretty cool an interesting. The franchise has already proven it has the depth and scale to support spin-offs and side stories, and animation could be the perfect playground for creative experimentation in the Avatar universe. In the meantime, fans can gear up for Avatar: Fire and Ash , which premieres in theaters on December 19, 2025. The film sees Sam Worthington return as Jake Sully, alongside Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, Edi Falco, and more.
