Attero to invest ₹100 cr to expand rare earth recycling capacity to 30,000 tonnes
, India's largest
e-waste recycling
company, has announced plans to scale up its rare earth element (REE) recycling capacity from 300 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes annually over the next 12 to 24 months. The expansion will involve an investment of ₹100 crore and supports the Union government's recently launched
National Critical Mineral Mission
(NCMM), which aims to reduce import dependence and strengthen domestic supply chains. The announcement assumes significance in the face of curbs imposed by China on exports of rare earth magnets.
Rare earth elements such as Neodymium (Nd), Praseodymium (Pr), and Dysprosium (Dy) are vital for sectors including electric mobility, wind energy, and electronics. With the global
REE market
expected to reach $10.9 billion by 2029 and REE magnets forecasted to exceed $30.3 billion by 2033, India has identified recycling and extraction of these materials as a key strategic priority.
Technology-led expansion
'Attero has consistently advocated for India's self-reliance in critical minerals to reduce dependence on imports and counter China's dominance in rare earth supply chains,' said Nitin Gupta, CEO and Co-founder of Attero.
'We are proud to be the only Indian company with proven deep-tech and globally patented processes to refine black mass and recover rare earth elements with over 98 per cent efficiency and 99.9 pe purity. With our existing capability and technology leadership, we are ready to scale our REE recycling capacity from 1 to 100 tonnes per day to reach a total of 30,000 tonnes annually. We plan to invest ₹100 crore towards this expansion,' he added.
Attero uses a proprietary process to extract REEs from e-waste and end-of-life electronics such as hard disk drives, laptops, neckbands, and earphones, which contain high concentrations of Nd, Pr, Ce, Gd, and Dy. The company states that the method is more energy-efficient and produces lower
greenhouse gas emissions
than traditional mining processes.
In FY25, Attero processed over 150,000 tonnes of e-waste and 15,000 tonnes of
lithium-ion batteries
. It targets 100 per cent year-on-year growth and aims to increase e-waste processing capacity to 415,000 tonnes and battery recycling to 50,000 tonnes annually.
International patents and global expansion plans
Attero holds over 46 patents globally, including recent grants related to rare earth recovery in India, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, China, and Taiwan. These patents support the company's international expansion strategy, with future operations planned in Europe and the United States.
The National Critical Mineral Mission recognises recycling as a central strategy to secure critical mineral supply chains. Attero's expanded capabilities align with this policy framework, offering a domestic pathway to reduce reliance on imports and enhance India's position in global critical mineral recovery.

CM: TN has double digit growth of 11.19%
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin said TN has become the fastest growing state in the country overcoming multiple challenges. Citing a Union ministry of statistics report, Stalin said on Wednesday that TN's economic growth rate has touched 11.19%, surging past the previous estimate of 9.69%. State has achieved the double digit growth rate after 14 years, he said after distributing appointment orders to youth recruited by state municipal administration department. "We have reached the milestone after crossing multiple hurdles and slander," Stalin said. He said DMK would not remain content with this accomplishment, but would take efforts to reach higher up, through concerted efforts in Dravidian model govt 2.0. It's too ambitious, they said. But with growth like this, what once seemed distant is now well within reach," he posted on X. State finance minister Thangam Thennarasu attributed the double-digit growth rate to financial prudence. "Double digit growth rate in real terms is yet another feather in the hat of Dravidian model govt. The growth was possible due to our financial prudence. We have not only boosted our GSDP but boosted the economy of the country as well," Thennarasu told reporters at Anna Arivalayam.

Raisin producers, traders protest against imports as prices fall in Sangli market
Kolhapur: Hundreds of raisin producers, traders and cold storage operators marched to the Sangli collector's office on Wednesday, demanding that central govt stop import of raisins into India, both legally and illegally. Prices of raisins in the Sangli-Tasgaon Bedana Market, the largest raisin market in India, have dropped steeply over the past few months. Raisin prices, which ranged between Rs 300-400 per kg, fell below Rs200. Raisin production witnessed a steep decline this year due to significant damage to vineyards and fewer grapes available for raisin production. Raisin producers approached deputy chief minister and state finance minister Ajit Pawar with their concerns. Pawar wrote to Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal seeking immediate intervention since raisin production is a capital-intensive industry and the losses have become unbearable for everyone in the chain. "Huge amounts of raisins from China are being brought into India through the illegal route of Nepal. Also, raisins from other countries are packaged as Afghan raisins and brought to India. The Afghan raisins have no duty due to a trade agreement. Several big Indian players are bringing the raisins, showing procurement prices much lower than the domestic price of raisins. They should be punished," said Rajendra Kumbhar, the president of the Raisin Traders' Association. Several farmers from Solapur and Karnataka's border areas participated in the protest march. "I produce around 15 tonne of raisins every year. Due to the import of raisins and the drop in prices, I have suffered a loss of Rs 15 lakh," said a farmer. The raisins produced in Sangli and nearby areas are of the best quality and have high demand across India. The demand shoots up during festivals, which are about to start soon. Before the start of the festivals, the centre should crack down on the illegal imports, said the farmers.

Nagpur up 5 spots in swachh ranking after NMC's appeal
Nagpur: The city's ranking in the Swachh Bharat Survekshan improved following an appeal by the civic body. The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs has now placed Nagpur at rank 22A (out of 40), up from its earlier position of 27. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The revised ranking was confirmed on its national dashboard, with municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari sharing the update on Wednesday. Nagpur's state ranking also saw a rise — from 29 to 25A out of 414 urban local bodies in Maharashtra. The city's overall score now stands at 9,836 out of 12,500, up from the previous 9,328, additional municipal commissioner Vasumana Pant told TOI. To a query, Pant explained that since Nashik already held the 22nd rank, Nagpur has been assigned 22A to reflect its equal standing. As a result, the 27th position in the national ranking list now remains vacant, the Swachh Survekshan results website stated. The improvement followed NMC's detailed representation under the guidance of Chaudhari, pointing out discrepancies in the initial assessment. "We highlighted major mismatches in legacy data related to daily waste collection and vehicle tracking over the past three years. After verification, a fresh site visit was conducted, and our claims were accepted," said Pant. Key metrics show substantial progress. Door-to-door waste collection surged from 30% to 90%, while segregation at source improved dramatically from 1% to 60%. However, waste processing, which was earlier marked at 100%, was revised to 60% following a stricter re-evaluation. The city has now also earned one star under the Garbage-Free City (GFC) certification — a benchmark it failed to achieve earlier this year. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Nagpur's score was already contentious. About 30% in door-to-door collection and 1% at source segregation were surprising. The scores in these two parameters increased to 90% and 60%, which gave us 500 in GFC certification were we had earlier scored zero," Kaustav Chatterjee, Swachhata ambassador said. The earlier ranking sparked sharp criticism from citizens and within the civic administration, where officials admitted that weak inter-departmental coordination and poor documentation hampered performance. The latest recognition reflects growing momentum in the city's cleanliness efforts. Even in Swachh Survekshan 2023, Nagpur was placed 86th among 400 cities with a population above one lakh. The NMC objected to this categorisation, insisting that Nagpur should have been evaluated in the million-plus category. Major recent initiatives include the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, Backlane Cleanliness Drive, compressed biogas facility, C&D waste plant, and biomining project at Bhandewadi. Citizen-led programs like 'One Date, One Hour', Swachh Mohalla, Clean Market initiatives, Eco Bricks, and awareness campaigns in schools have further boosted community participation. In a statement, Chaudhari said Nagpur's progress was acknowledged in a recent central govt report for its participatory initiatives. He added that NMC now aims to push for a Top 10 rank in upcoming surveys by intensifying cleanliness efforts across all zones.
