Guernsey fans react to England Euros win and Maya Le Tissier's historic success
The Guernsey defender was part of England's 23-player squad that beat Spain 3-1 on penalties to retain their European title.
Hundreds gathered at screenings across the islands to watch the Euro 2025 Final, including in St Martins' clubhouse - the team where Maya started her career.
Club Director Ben Hunter says: "She's such a credit to the island and the whole team have been absolutely fantastic to watch.
"Women's football is big now, it's getting to the level it should be at and it's a credit to those ladies who are doing it. Maya's a part of that for Man United and England."
Although she was an unused substitute during the tournament, Maya still played her part, including setting up a players' messaging group called the 'Positive Clicks' which was referenced in celebrations earlier in the competition.
She is also said to have helped support fellow defender Jess Carter after she suffered racist abuse online.
Maya's father, Darren Le Tissier, explains: "I think Maya's done extremely well in the background, training well every day, being a good support and team player in and around the squad. It's all about that team unity."
The Lionesses' performances have inspired other young footballers about what is possible.
One young fan tells ITV News: "It's just crazy to think that someone from Guernsey can actually go to England and perform in the Euros. It's mental, she's turning into a brilliant footballer."
A second one adds: "I started playing football because of Maya. One day, I'd like to become a Lionness."

Billy 'The Kid' Loughnane shows why he can be the new face of racing as he triumphs in the Grosser Preis von Berlin - with the 19-year-old looking to follow in Frankie Dettori's footsteps
The first of what will be many arrived with the shake of his head, a handshake and disbelieving scream. Billy Loughnane had just guided Rebel's Romance, that fantastic globetrotting gelding who has amassed career earnings close to £11million, to a gutsy victory in the Grosser Preis von Berlin, one of the most important races of the European flat racing summer. Odds of 1/5 suggested it was a formality - the prohibitive numbers, however, did nothing to explain the scale of the achievement that was immediately acknowledged by Rene Piechulek, the man who he had edged out in a driving finish at Hoppergarten Racecourse. Loughnane is known as 'Billy The Kid' and he rides with a gunslinger's cool. He is only 19 and this represented a colossal moment in his upwardly mobile career, a breakthrough at Group One level wearing the distinctive Royal Blue silks that were once Frankie Dettori 's uniform. This is the environment in which all jockeys strive to operate but only few get the opportunity. That Loughnane was entrusted for this mission by Charlie Appleby, the trainer of racing's biggest owners Godolphin, underlined how highly he is regarded. Daily Mail Sport last week published a feature about the hottest young athletes in the world and there can be little question that Loughnane deserves a place in that category - his career is climbing as steeply, and shining as brightly as one of those rockets you fire from your garden on Bonfire Night. 'It's a feeling I can't describe, a feeling of ecstasy,' Loughnane gasped. 'What a star of a horse. I'm very lucky to be riding in these colours and to have the opportunity to sit on a horse like this. He's a star of a horse. Big thanks to Will (Buick, Godolphin's number one rider). I spoke to him last night and he told me exactly what to do.' Loughnane's father Mark was at Wolverhampton, where he said on Sky Sports Racing: 'It's something he's dreamt of all his life. I had an even-money favourite in the first race (Rock N It, which finished third) but I was more watching my phone and watching Billy. As a dad I'm proud as punch.' So he should be. His son has the charisma, talent and ability to be the face of racing for a new generation. He is dedicated to his profession, with those close to him constantly impressed by his determination to spend time watching video analysis of his rides and tapping into more experienced weighing room colleagues for advice. 'We take people in all the time but he just stood out at 16, even before he had got on a horse,' says Newmarket trainer George Boughey, who retains Loughnane as his stable jockey. He stood out as a person. He is a charming, well-mannered young guy and he will speak as easily with my highest owner as any of the staff in the yard. 'It took him something like 30 rides to win for me but he always had belief that it was going to happen for him: we have tried to create a positive environment because if you are working in a place where you feel wanted, you want to give your best all the time. If you don't feel wanted, how can you feel comfortable? Together Boughey and Loughnane are going to places and that was proven last year when the pair were successful with Soprano in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot. 'Ascot was a big moment,' agrees. 'As a trainer, if something goes wrong, it's your fault. The jockey can make a mistake in the race but you are the one who has to face the owner. Danny Tudhope had originally been booked to ride Soprano but Billy is my stable jockey and I wanted him to ride her. I remember being in the paddock and giving my spiel to the Highclere syndicate about how the race would unfold. Billy came from the weighing room, with his chest puffed out, and spoke to everyone with total assurance. There were some important people in that group but he didn't flinch. And he rode the filly absolutely perfectly.' As he rode Rebel's Romance. It had been a profitable weekend for Loughnane, who had ridden another big winner for Appleby on Saturday at Newmarket, but this, you feel, is the point in which the accelerator has been applied in his trajectory. 'The relationship with Charlie is building,' Boughey said. 'He has given him a lot of chances and most of them have won. They asked him to go in and ride Rebel's Romance last week. If that would have been me at 19, I'd have been thinking it was the biggest day of my life and wouldn't have slept but it didn't phase him one bit. It's what he is meant to do.'

Serie A club in ‘fresh discussions' to break Motherwell transfer record for Lennon Miller
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN Italian team are reportedly stepping up their efforts to acquire Motherwell starlet Lennon Miller. There has been speculation over his future for some time, with several Serie A club linked as he moves into the last year of his contract. 3 Scotland starlet Lennon Miller has been linked with various European clubs Credit: Willie Vass 3 He's been out of action with a minor injury sustained in a pre-season friendly Credit: Willie Vass 3 Serie A side Udinese are reportedly in discussion to break Motherwell's transfer record Credit: Alamy Torino and Bologna have been named in the race for the midfielder's signature. But it's Udinese who are edging closer to breaking Motherwell's record transfer fee received, according to Herald Sports. They understand that the team who finished 12th in the Italian top-flight last season have held 'fresh discussions' following a long period of interest. Early this year, they had a bid believed to be around £2.5million thrown out, with Union St-Gilloise also said to have been rejected for even more. But this time, the offer is coming in at £4.5million for the 18-year-old, exceeding the £3.25million received from Celtic for David Turnbull in 2020. Miller has been absent in competitive fixtures for Jens Berthel Askou since the season began following a minor injury picked up in a friendly against Carlisle. With the Scottish Premiership now well underway and the Serie A's start just a few weeks away, Udinese reportedly want to seal the deal in the coming week. Speaking last month when the teenager sensation was nowhere to be seen in a League Cup match against Greenock Morton, 'Well manager Askou said: 'He wasn't able to be here but I will hopefully see him on Thursday after our day off and we will take it from there. 'There are lots of rumours on Lennon. 'I have heard a lot of funny stories but he is still a Motherwell player. Motherwell and Rangers fans displays ahead of Premiership opener 'We are very happy to have him and he is happy to be here. 'When there is something concrete, we will say. But I look forward to seeing him this week.' If the move is confirmed Miller would be the next in a line of Scottish talents playing their trade in Italy. Scott McTominay picked up a Balon D'or nomination after a stellar league-winning season at Napoli, where he plays alongside Billy Gilmour. There was silverware too for Lewis Ferguson at Bologna in the form of the Italian Cup. Also out there are Che Adams with Torino, ex-Hibs kid Josh Doig at Sassuolo, and former Celtic man Liam Henderson plays for Empoli. Crystal Palace fans' two word-banner makes feelings clear as £30m offer rejected
Crystal Palace were FA Cup winners at Wembley in May when they defeated Manchester City and on Sunday saw off Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield - before they find out their European fate on Monday The banner unfurled by Crystal Palace fans just after the Wembley kickoff yesterday showed the South London club's biggest rivals this week. 'UEFA Mafia,' declared the Holmesdale Fanatics before Monday's decision on which European competition the Eagles will enter this campaign. And while the FA Cup winners again showed the X Factor to stun another Premier League giant to win the Community Shield, the singing about Europe's governing body and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was dominated by X-rated language. It proved that Palace fans are not always Glad All Over on yet another unforgettably raucous Wembley day out. The Eagles had won a spot in the Europa League along with the first trophy in their history here in May but were relegated to the Conference League last month after UEFA ruled they had breached the rules on multi-club ownership. The Selhurst Park club presented their case to Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday and now await the verdict. And despite this memorable win, the judgement on Palace's chances on the pitch season will have to be held until the closure of the summer transfer window on September 1. Oliver Glasner sent out the same starting 11 which beat Manchester City on the biggest day in the club's history back on May 17 - and again produced another tactical masterpiece against the champions who have spent £295m this summer. Palace have a super, energetic and well-drilled first team but the squad depth is the issue, especially with four competitions ahead. They have turned down a £30m offer from Atalanta for opening goalscorer Jean-Philippe Mateta but captain Marc Guehi, who limped off before the end, and Eberechi Eze could yet be sold this month. And the Austrian manager, who is also out of contract at the end of his season, has shown his frustration with the club's 'passive' transfer activity which has seen only two signings so far. Winning the CAS case will see Palace go straight into the Europa League group stages next month. Losing will see them face a two-legged Conference League play-off against either Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Midtjylland of Denmark on August 21 and 28. Glasner has warned the club that it would be a 'mistake' to wait until the end of the month to make more signings. But the other big date looming for Crystal Palace is August 24 when they host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Olympiakos owner Marinakis placed his shares in the Premier League club in a blind trust earlier in April and Forest, who finished seventh last season, will benefit with promotion to the Europa League if Palace lose the CAS case. Then forget Millwall and Brighton - Nottingham Forest will be the new bitterest rivals for Crystal Palace.
