Smash burger business Blackwood, Kitchen Kings, is a hit
Kitchen Kings Blackwood a smash burger business that has taken the high street by storm! (Image: NQ) The business popped up on the street back in March this year but has humble beginnings upgrading from a burger van parked outside the local gym.
We decided to plate up at Kitchen Kings and 'grill' the brains behind the business.
Owners Tommie Webb 27, and Will Davies 28 stepped up to the challenge.
Speaking about their business Will said: 'It just skyrocketed from the beginning, we grew up together and are best friends but never imagined it would turn out like this, but we've always had faith in the business.'
A smash burger from Kitchen Kings Blackwood dripping in melted cheese (Image: NQ) Tommie explained: 'We both worked in the same fish shop when we were younger, I moved to Bristol and helped set up a Greek Restaurant and I came back home and was running a pub in Oakdale and worked on a burger van in Tredegar. Then we got our van and we started outside the gym.'
Will added: 'It was my dad's fish shop in Newbridge, I started in the fish shop, but I've always had a head for business and my wanted by own business.
'We got together had the idea of getting a burger van that was in November.'
Kitchen King dynamic duo Tommie Webb and Will Davies (Image: NQ) Together the boys have accumulated 10K followers on Facebook and dominated the Blackwood Highstreet. Huge queues each day can be seen leading out of the shop which has a great selection of food for hungry customers.
However, the boys acknowledged they couldn't have done it alone.
Will said: 'We couldn't have done it without our staff, our team are great, and the community support has been immense.'

The business is best known for smash‑style double patties, loaded fries and jackets, Korean BBQ‑style chicken, tacos, wraps, rice boxes, and refreshing drink options.
Whilst at Kitchen Kings I dug into a 'Munch Box.'
In my munch box I was spotlit for choice. From crispy lean chicken tenders to BBQ pulled pork loaded fries all topped off with two huge smash burgers dripping in cheese and as if that wasn't enough, a giant cheese dip. I was absolutely stuffed!

The restaurant is normally open from 11am-around 10pm. Would you eat here??

Hamilton law firm praised at parliament for volunteering efforts
Staff from Scullion Law transformed the garden of their charity partners Home-Start Staff at a Hamilton law firm have been congratulated at the Scottish Parliament for their long-standing volunteer partnership with a community organisation. Family law team members Judith Higson, Nicola Buchanan, Claire Thomas, Laura Cousins, Liz Semple and Carly Russell spent a day supporting Home Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire by clearing, weeding and painting the outdoor garden at their Maryhill base. She also praised their fundraising donations of £1 from every invoice and participation in events including the Kiltwalk, saying they have 'raised significant funds for Home-Start since 2021' and commended Scullion's 'lasting impact in enabling Home-Start to expand services, train more volunteers and build resilient, thriving communities'. It has so far been supported by 23 MSPs, including Lanarkshire colleagues Meghan Gallacher and Fulton MacGregor. Head of family law Judith Higson said: 'It was fantastic to spend the day together as a team, supporting the brilliant work Home‑Start does for families. Getting stuck in with the gardening and painting allowed us to contribute in a hands-on, meaningful way, and we hope the families enjoy the space.' WhatsApp takes down 6.8 million accounts linked to criminal scam centers, Meta says
WhatsApp has taken down 6.8 million accounts that were 'linked to criminal scam centers' targeting people online around that world, its parent company Meta said this week. The account deletions, which Meta said took place over the first six months of the year, arrive as part of wider company efforts to crack down on scams. In a Tuesday announcement, Meta said it was also rolling new tools on WhatsApp to help people spot scams — including a new safety overview that the platform will show when someone who is not in a user's contacts adds them to a group, as well as ongoing test alerts to pause before responding. Scams are becoming all too common and increasingly sophisticated in today's digital world — with too-good-to-be-true offers and unsolicited messages attempting to steal consumers' information or money filling our phones, social media and other corners of the internet each day. Meta noted that 'some of the most prolific' sources of scams are criminal scam centers, which often span from forced labor operated by organized crime — and warned that such efforts often target people on many platforms at once, in attempts to evade detection. That means that a scam campaign may start with messages over text or a dating app, for example, and then move to social media and payment platforms, the California-based company said. Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, pointed to recent scam efforts that it said attempted to use its own apps — as well as TikTok, Telegram and AI-generated messages made using ChatGPT — to offer payments for fake likes, enlist people into a pyramid scheme and/or lure others into cryptocurrency investments. Meta linked these scams to a criminal scam center in Cambodia — and said it disrupted the campaign in partnership with ChatGPT maker OpenAI.

Tributes for 'one of a kind chef' after unexpected death
Allan Grant was the head chef at the Dalmuir Café in Clydebank for several months before his recent passing. During that time, the 37-year-old became a much-loved member of the team at the Lennox Place eatery. The café announced the sad news on Saturday, August 2, stating the team was 'absolutely heartbroken'. A statement published to the café's Facebook page reads: 'It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our head chef Allan. 'As a team, we're absolutely heartbroken. Aldo wasn't only the head chef but also an amazing friend to everyone who worked in the café. 'In the few months he was with us, he created such an impact from his skills as a chef to just lifting the place up with his energy. 'Even on the busiest days, it was still a laugh. You were one of a kind, and we will never forget you. Rest in peace, chef.' 'Allan leaves behind a young son who adored him, as well as a grieving family now facing the difficult task of saying goodbye far too soon. 'We are setting up this fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and provide much-needed support to his family and little boy during this incredibly painful time. 'No one is ever prepared for such a sudden loss – emotionally or financially. Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly towards funeral costs and easing the financial burden on Allan's loved ones as they navigate the days ahead. 'Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for keeping Allan's memory alive in your thoughts and hearts. 'Rest in peace, Allan. You will be missed beyond words.'
