Perlis Forms Special Task Force To Recover Revenue From Leased Land, Buildings

Barnama20-06-2025
KANGAR, June 20 (Bernama) -- A special task force led by Perlis state secretary Datuk Rahimi Ismail has been formed to address revenue leakages related to the rental of state land and buildings.
Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said the task force is responsible for identifying and collecting data on premises and assets involved in the leakages, as well as coordinating actions to ensure that lost revenue can be recovered.
'Among the task force's early achievements is identifying revenue leakages involving four departments/agencies. Through these initial actions, the total leakage identified has reached RM1.5 million.
'...with an estimated RM800,000 expected to be recovered by the end of 2025. This effort will continue to involve other departments," he said during the monthly assembly of the state administration here today.
Mohd Shukri said the task force is also in the process of preparing a Premises Usage Management Guideline, which has been reviewed by the State Legal Adviser's Office and is now being examined by the Perlis State Land and Mines Office (PTG) for feedback.
Mohd Shukri said the task force was formed following a January audit committee meeting that called for immediate action to ensure rental income from state-owned properties collected by third parties is returned to the state.
Issues related to the rental of state land and buildings include activities conducted without valid contracts or agreements, violations of existing regulations, encroachments on government-owned land and the rental of assets that do not provide reasonable returns to the state, he added.
'This situation not only causes revenue loss but also reflects non-compliance with the laws and regulations in place,' he said.

Demand for vision care to bolster Focus Point's showing

TA Research said factors such as an ageing population and the rising use of digital devices have significantly driven the demand for vision care. PETALING JAYA: Focus Point Holdings Bhd is in a good position to capitalise on factors that will spur the demand for vision care, analysts say. TA Research said factors such as an ageing population and the rising use of digital devices have significantly driven the demand for vision care. 'As Malaysia's largest optical chain, Focus Point is well positioned to capitalise on this growing demand while leveraging economies of scale to deliver high-quality products at competitive prices. 'Looking ahead, the group is on track to open up to 10 new optical stores this year versus a net increase of four last year,' the research house added. Meanwhile, the research house said it expects the company's food and beverage (F&B) segment to improve, supported by the onboarding of a new corporate client and increased sales to existing clients. The research firm reiterated its 'buy' call on the stock with a target price of RM0.75 per share based on 12 times next year's earnings per share due to its resilient business and dividend yield of 5.3% for this year. Focus Point's net profit of RM16.4mil for the first half of this year (1H25) was in line with expectations at 46.2% of the research house's full-year estimates and 43.5% of consensus forecasts. Net profit for 1H25 grew 3.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM16.4mil, in tandem with increased sales of 4.9% to RM145.7mil. The improved performance was entirely driven by the optical segment, which delivered a stronger profit before tax of RM24.2mil, up 16.1%, supported by higher sales and enhanced cost efficiencies. However, the F&B division reported a loss of RM1.6mil compared with profit before tax of RM600,000 in 1H24 due to higher operating costs from its new Komugi outlets. However, revenue rose 3.3% y-o-y to RM22mil, mainly driven by retail sales.

KUALA LUMPUR: TSH Resources Bhd reported a higher net profit of RM49.23mil for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25) from RM20.63mil in the same period last year, supported by improved productivity and higher palm product prices. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the oil palm plantation group said revenue also rose to RM268.77mil from RM252.52mil previously. For the first half of 2025 (1H25), net profit more than doubled to RM97.42mil against RM40.70mil in the corresponding period last year, while revenue increased to RM544.10mil from RM494.90mil previously. The higher revenue from the palm segment was mainly attributable to increased sales of crude palm oil and palm kernel. — Bernama

Malaysia Sees ASEAN As Strategic Growth Region Amid Global Challenges

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 ( Bernama) — Malaysia views ASEAN as a region with vast untapped potential -- poised to become a dynamic engine of growth and resilience amid global uncertainties, according to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). MITI Deputy Secretary General (Trade) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said ASEAN is more than just a large market, it is a reservoir of innovation, creativity and energy with a population nearing 700 million, almost one third of whom are youth. 'Our demographic dividend, coupled with a rapidly growing consumer class, rising connectivity and accelerating digital adoption, gives ASEAN a unique advantage. 'If nurtured in accordance with the principles of sustainability and inclusivity, these strengths will not only fortify our region's growth but also position ASEAN to play a defining role in shaping the future of the global economy,' she said in her speech at the welcome dinner for the Senior Economic Officials' Meeting (SEOM) 3/56 and Related Meetings today. Under the ASEAN chairmanship, Mastura said Malaysia is working to deepen regional integration, strengthen supply chain resilience, foster sustainable and responsible investment and advance digital innovation. 'More importantly, we are committed to creating opportunities for businesses of all sizes, especially micro, small and medium enterprises to participate meaningfully in ASEAN's growth story,' she added. In a separate statement, MITI said key discussions at SEOM 3/56 focused on Malaysia's Priority Economic Deliverables under its 2025 ASEAN chairmanship; updates on the 2025 Annual Priorities under the AEM/SEOM purview; implementation of ASEAN agreements; advancement of the Digital Economy Framework Agreemen; and ASEAN's sustainability agenda, including carbon neutrality, circular economy, and the ASEAN Power Grid. MITI is hosting the SEOM 3/56 and Related Meetings from Aug 18 to 23 in Kuala Lumpur. The ministry said that discussions with ASEAN Dialogue Partners focused on reviewing progress and addressing key issues related to the implementation of existing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), as well as the status of work plans and ongoing economic cooperation initiatives.
