Man sparks male loneliness debate after swiping right 2million times on Tinder

Daily Mirror27-05-2025
Tinder user Hayden detailed in his Reddit post how he has managed just one date, which was unsuccessful, in five years on the app after swiping right on more than 2 million profiles
A 26-year-old man has gone viral after sharing his Tinder profile, on which he has landed just one date after swiping right to more than two million profiles on the dating app.
The Reddit post detailing the story ruffled feathers online with large groups of both men and women in agreement that the poor date ratio was due to several 'red flags' in the man's profile which included stereotypical 'catching fish' pictures and hoodies with bad jokes printed on them.

The man, who goes by Hayden on his profile, shared that he has been on the dating app for a little over five years. According to statistics he published himself, he has given 2,020,459 swipes right and 38,014 swipes left.

"Over 90% of my matches are bots, I also have to change my location so I can keep swiping," he explained in the original post. "There's a lot more to this data that isn't shown. I don't ever match with anyone in my own state."
On Tinder, you view a person's profile which contains images and basic information about them before having a conversation. If you like what you see then you swipe right, left if you don't, and if both people swipe right it's a match and the conversation can begin.
Hayden's statistics also rallied corners of social media who have cited a ' male loneliness epidemic ', referring to a rising sense of loneliness among men, particularly younger in age, which is earmarked as the cause of bad mental or physical health.
The online phenomena has its critics, chiefly those who point out the isolation could be brought on due to increased screen times and the fact that men are not the only demographic who feel lonely.
Others have linked the social epidemic to incel culture, an online community of men who consider themselves unable to attract women sexually. This group is tied to hostility towards women both online and offline and was featured in the Netflix show Adolescence, though some have distanced male loneliness from this.

Hyden's Reddit post listed that, from 2,020,459 swipes right, he had managed 2,053 matches which led to 1,269 conversations on Tinder and one date, which was unsuccessful.
The profile contained prompts written by Hayden such as: "If you're not trying to go fishing, I don't want it. My idea of a vacation is going to the desert and looking for snakes for a week. I may or may not currently own 33 snakes."
Words of advice and support were adding to the Reddit post, with one user writing: "Hey man, I get it—dating apps can feel hopeless, especially when you're stuck in a cycle of negativity. And I know you aren't looking for advice, but let's be real: Your profile isn't working because it's sending the wrong signals. It's 100% not because you're 'ugly' or 'unlovable.'
"The good news? Your profile is easily fixed. Delete your current profile. It's time for a clean slate. Ditch the fish pics. Yeah, it's a meme, but women see 10 fish pics a day. It screams 'I have no personality beyond a tackle box.'"
Men average 137 swipes per day, according to Tinder insights, compared to the women's average of 200. Hayden however, averages a mindboggling 1,953 swipes per day on the dating site.

'Underrated' Netflix thriller hailed 'as good as The Handmaid's Tale' now streaming

Fans mourning the end of the hit Channel 4 series The Handmaid's Tale appear to have found another dystopian show every bit as gripping, dark and mysterious The final season of everyone's beloved dystopian thriller has officially wrapped up and devotees of The Handmaid's Tale are desperately searching for their next binge-worthy series – but they might not have to venture far. ‌ Fans of all things thriller have been engrossed with 3%, an overlooked dystopian gem featuring a youthful cast marooned in an offshore community. ‌ The Netflix show has received rave stellar reviews since it first aired in 2016, with audiences declaring it "tremendously underrated". One reviewer posted on IMDb: "I was really surprised by the fact that this show is really unknown. It is a great TV series that definitely deserves more recognition." ‌ Another fan shared: "Cinematically and visually stunning, a political, Hunger Games-esque storyline with believable acting, and I thought very interesting, lifelike characters. The script is intelligent, the characters are strong, and the interaction is elegant in its simplicity and natural air." The storyline for the Brazilian thriller depicts merely 3% of society enjoying opulence on an island, while the rest of population endures mainland existence in destitution, reports the Express. When the kids turn 20, ordinary citizens receive a singular opportunity to join the elite 3% through a gruelling contest called "the process". Crafted to be brutal and potentially lethal to its participants, the contest concludes with most contestants returning to impoverished lives – sometimes too weakened to even survive it. Despite being in Portuguese, numerous English-speaking audiences have become captivated by the drama, clinging to every episode through subtitles or dubbed versions. A third fan even branded the show a "rare gem". "3% is one of those rare shows that only gets better and better as it goes," they wrote. "Season 3, so far, is shaping up to be the most enthralling season yet, which, let me tell you, is absolutely saying something! ‌ "The world continues to be fleshed out, and the already quite complex characters are only getting more interesting. Do yourself a favour; watch at least to episode three before you pass judgement. You won't regret it!" Another person declared: "This is truly an outstanding dystopian/post-apocalyptic series. The acting, the shots, the pace, the character development, the storyline... Everything is on point! Seasons 1, 2 and 4 were, for me, all riveting." The Brazilian cast are relatively unknown but deliver an "outstanding" performance, according to fans. João Miguel portrays Ezequiel in the series, the leader of the Process, alongside Bianca Comparato, who appears as Michele Santana, and Michel Gomes as Fernando Carvalho. When talking about the acting in 3%, on person said: "I watched this out of boredom, but boy, was I glad that I did. It totally caught me off guard by how wonderful this show was. It is intelligent, futuristic, and well acted; all in all, absolutely amazing."

'Insanely good' crime thriller quietly added to Netflix soars up the chart

Netflix has scored another hit with its latest crime thriller, which has soared up the streaming platform's chart with viewers gripped by the 'insanely good' film. Night Always Comes arrived last week with surprisingly little fanfare after the keen attention on previous Netflix Friday film releases, including highly anticipated sequel Happy Gilmore 2 and rom-com obsession My Oxford Year. The movie, starring Fantastic Four actress Vanessa Kirby, is based on the best-selling novel by Willy Vlautin and follows Kirby's former sex worker Lynette, a desperate woman who risks everything to try and raise $25,000 (£18,432) to secure the house that represents a future for her family. The official synopsis adds: 'On a frantic a dangerous odyssey through a single night, Lynette is forced to confront her dark past in order to finally break free.' Directed by Benjamin Caron – who previously directed Kirby in her Bafta-winning role as Princess Margaret in The Crown – Night Always Comes also includes Jennifer Jason Lee as Lynette's chaotic mother, The Peanut Butter Falcon's Zack Gottsagen as her brother, Julia Fox, Lioness star Michael Kelly and Eli Roth among its cast. Caron has cited the Safdie brothers' Uncut Gems and Good Time as an influence on his film's 'breakneck momentum' according to The Guardian. Fans have expressed their excitement over watching the film, with Merlin commenting on X of Kirby's performance: 'Back with a bang.' 'High stakes and Vanessa Kirby? Count me in,' added another fan. @erikaxtc said: 'Vanessa Kirby's movie #NightAlwaysComes on Netflix is such a brilliant drama/thriller. The cast is insanely good, and Vanessa's performance was perfection. I didn't want it to end.' 'Vanessa kirby is brilliant in 'night always comes'. once again, she delivers a strong and nuanced performance,' @favdickinson added. Night Always Comes currently sits on a fresh score of 57% according to critical reactions on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. 'Vanessa Kirby commands the screen in a harrowing spiral of bad choices, delivering a performance as riveting as the story is nightmarish,' praised critic Joseph Robinson of Night Always Comes, while CBR admired Oscar nominee Kirby's 'powerhouse performance'. Heaven of Horror's Karina Adelgaard went further, sharing: 'Vanessa Kirby delivers a portrayal that is nuanced, heartbreaking, intense, and absolutely breathtaking.' Meanwhile, Collider insisted Night Always Comes was 'a film that needs to be seen'. 'A decent ticking-clock thriller that relies on its amusingly sleazy underworld and a barrage of strong performances to carry its occasionally flimsy and on-the-nose storytelling,' wrote Film Feeder's Jack Martin, while The Hollywood Reporter observed: 'Netflix's Night Always Comes is more compelling than the average original streaming movie even if it could use an extra shot of emotional power.' Critic Ben Sears also highlighted the lack of publicity for Netflix's latest film, noting that it 'rises above' most of the streamer's other original movies and 'deserves more than being unceremoniously dumped on the platform'. More Trending Others weren't quite as convinced though, with IndieWire's Kate Erbland penning: 'Handsomely made but tediously plotted, Kirby is more than deserving of this kind of meaty, she's-in-every-frame role, but Night Always Comes sunsets long before we get there.' Other new releases this week included controversial adult animation Fixed, which has shocked viewers with its explicit scenes and 'raunchy dog' niche genre, while fans globally are also still lapping up pop culture sensation KPop Demon Hunters. This film recently catapulted into the most-watched list of films ever on Netflix, claiming second place with 184.6million views after just eight weeks on the platform.
