Divisional Railway Manager (Waltair) Lalit Bohra on Monday conducted an inspection of Visakhapatnam Railway Station to assess passenger amenities, evaluate available facilities and review the progress of ongoing developmental works.
He checked the functionality of lifts and escalators, availability and visibility of signages, parking arrangements, platform cleanliness, coach maintenance, linen supply and yard and safety-related aspects. He interacted with passengers and railway staff to gather first-hand feedback.
The DRM also inspected key passenger facilities such as waiting halls, the AC Relaxation Lounge, food courts, catering stalls, and the 'One Station One Product' (OSOP) kiosks. He impressed upon vendors on the importance of maintaining cleanliness, proper garbage disposal using dustbins and adherence to safety norms. He also advised them to avoid footboard travel and ticketless travel.
E. Santharam, ADRM (Infrastructure) and senior officials from the Commercial, Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Operations, Security, and Signal and Telecom departments accompanied the DRM during the inspection.

In the presence of SP Arvind, he handed over Rs 42.21 lakh worth welfare assistance to 42 beneficiaries and issued appreciation certificates to 314 people, including government staff. IGP South Zone Prem Anand Sinha, city commissioner of police J Loganathan, and others took part in the event. Om Prakash Meena, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), hoisted the national flag at the railway station. During his address, he said this financial year, a total revenue (Till July) is Rs 451.76 crore, which is higher compared to Rs 414.05 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. He added that the speed of the goods train in the financial year, including stabling and yarding, stands at 37.37 kmph, which is the highest among all divisions in Indian Railways. 'On the track infrastructure front, up to August, we have completed the renewal of tracks over 29.88 kilometres and deep screening of 77.20 km of plain track,' he said.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Om Prakash Meena hoisted the national flag on the occasion of 79th Independence Day on Friday. Raillway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and Railway School students, Scouts and Guides presented a guard of honour. Speaking on the occasion, the DRM said that Madurai Railway Division has achieved 9.1% growth in the total revenue till July in the financial year 2025-26 in comparison to the corresponding period in the previous year. While the revenue in the current year is ₹451.76 crore, it was ₹414.05 crore last year. This revenue comprises ₹289.88 crore from passenger earnings, ₹129.82 crore from freight, ₹19.91 crore from other coaching, and ₹12.15 crore from sundries, with 16.63 million (166.3 Lakh) passengers transported during the period. After operating 10,170 Mail and Express trains, the division has achieved punctuality of 97.97%. The division has also operated 6,931 unreserved passenger and Train-on-Demand services. The DRM said that the speed of goods trains in the current financial year, including stabling and yarding, currently stood at 37.37 kmph, which is the highest among all divisions in Indian Railways. For the second consecutive year, the division has crossed the 3 million tonnes mark in 2024–25, recording a total loading of 3.01 MT. The division also exceeded loading target of 1.025 tonnes, achieving 1.0854 tonnes, marking a growth of 5.93%. The division has done Complete Track Renewal over 29.88 km and deep screening of 77.20 km of plain track. Deep screening of 20 points and crossings, and carrying out Ultrasonic Flaw Detection testing of rails and welds across 1,337 km of track, Mr. Om Prakash said. On the safety front, interlocking of eight more level crossing gates have been done in 2025. With this, 319 LC gates have been interlocked and 25 gates have been equipped with electrically operated lifting barriers and emergency sliding booms, ensuring quick and effortless operation during both routine and emergency situations, the DRM said. Redevelopment of Madurai Junction and Rameswaram stations is in progress at a cost of ₹347.47 crore and ₹90.20 crore respectively . Further Tirunelveli Junction would be redeveloped at a cost of ₹92.8 crore. Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shri L.N. Rao and Chief Project Manager, Gati Sakthi Unit, K. Harikumar were present.

Trichy: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated by Trichy division of Southern Railway at the railway stadium in Kallukuzhi. Divisional railway manager (DRM) Balak Ram Negi hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade performed by Railway Protection Force (RPF). The DRM said in his speech that the division handled 1.39 crore passengers between April and July 2025, generating a revenue of Rs187.4 crore. The revenue from passenger movement is about 5.8% higher than the earnings in the corresponding period last year (April to July 2024). In the transportation of goods, the division loaded 5 million tonnes (MT) from April to July 2025, earning Rs318.9 crore. This was an increase of 31.6% in earnings compared to the same period last year, the DRM said. He said Trichy division crossed 5 million tonnes in a record 122 days, the fastest in its history. Between April and July 2025, a penalty of Rs4 crore was collected from passengers travelling without a ticket, with improper tickets, or with excess luggage. As part of promoting energy efficiency, a total of 216 conventional fans were replaced with BLDC fans, resulting in an annual saving of Rs5.2 lakh.
