Valerie Bertinelli's ex Mike Goodnough can't stop talking about her as he now reveals who ended relationship

Daily Mail22-04-2025
Valerie Bertinelli's ex Mike Goodnough is once again speaking out about their past relationship—just days after deleting an Instagram post in which he criticized the actress for publicly discussing their breakup.
Bertinelli, 64, dated the 54-year-old lifestyle writer for 10 months, from March to November 2024.
Although their relationship ended months ago, Goodnough has continued to comment on it via social media.
Earlier this month, he posted on Instagram to say he wasn't engaging in a 'war of words' with his ex, though he also accused her of making 'hostile, dishonest, and uncalled-for backhanded swipes.'
He later deleted the post and replaced it with a new message reflecting on the breakup, writing that he has 'cried about it enough' and is trying to move on.
On Sunday, Goodnough addressed the topic again— this time on Threads —responding to a commenter who suggested Bertinelli had ended things.
'I ended the relationship,' he wrote, adding, 'You tried though. You really tried.'
The comment comes after Goodnough appeared to make a subtle dig at Bertinelli in his April Instagram rant, writing, 'Unfortunately, over the past two months, Valerie has been prone to lapsing into a place where she has been playing a one-woman tennis match thinking there is someone on the other side of the net.'
He went on to accuse her of misinterpreting his words, adding, 'When in that place, she reads all of my posts, centers herself in them, takes offense over wholly imagined slights, and then lashes out angrily with a 'response' to things that were neither to her or about her.'
The result, he claimed, was a false narrative of an ongoing feud.
'Among people who follow us both, that behavior has created the impression that we are going back-and-forth. We are not.'
Despite the pointed remarks, Goodnough insisted he still cares for Bertinelli.
Reflecting on their past, he shared a bittersweet memory.
'Exactly one year ago, Valerie and I were together for the launch of her book. It was one of the most joyful weeks of my life.
'Taking true deep joy from Valerie's happiness and success was the easiest thing in the world. It is no harder now.'
While Goodnough accuses Bertinelli of taking swipes, she had nothing but praise for him earlier this month, calling herself 'so lucky' to have met him and to have him in her life in a heartfelt Instagram post.
In her tribute, the actress gave a nod to his newsletter Hoarse Whisperings and showered him with compliments, describing his writing as 'ridiculously beautiful' and praising both his talent and character.
Alongside her glowing words, she shared a black-and-white selfie of the two cuddled up, her head resting on his shoulder, along with a screenshot of his Substack newsletter header.
Just two weeks earlier, she also said she 'fumbled the last good man' following her 'two failed marriages.'

The reality star went public with her new romance in September last year, telling fans that she had 'found happiness' after suffering heartbreak on the main series. A source told The Sun Online: "Marilyse is really upset and can't believe she's ended up single again. "She was dumped over text after falling head over heels. "It was a whirlwind romance and in hindsight she feels she was love bombed." 'Lovebombing' is a term used to describe those who try to win over someone's affections by quickly showering them with excessive gestures – including compliments, gifts and declarations of love – in order to 'secure' the person's trust and love. In many cases, lovebombing results in an intense emotional attachment, which some use to then manipulate or control the person involved. Marylise first shot into the public eye by participating in the sixth series of the E4 reality show in 2021. She was matched by the experts with Franky Spencer, a former soldier and a strength and conditioning coach. Despite ups and downs, the pair confirmed their vows in the final episode and planned to move forward together away from the programme, but split four months later after their romance "dried up" and they became "more like friends". Marilyse told The Sun at the time: 'A few weeks after the reunion we went our separate ways, we didn't even fall out, we just mutually agreed that maybe we were not each other's future. Married At First Sight's Franky tells Marilyse When I speak you don't speak. 'It's really sad as we got on really well and Franky has a heart of gold but outside the experiment, I had to think, 'Do I want to be with this person forever?'" Marylise then went on to date Matt Murray, 34, a groom who took part in the MAFS experiment in 2022, and had famously ditched his bride for another on the programme. However, after just six months together they split as well, with Marylise later explaining it felt "too intense". When Marylise went public with her new romance in 2024, she declared she had "found happiness" with the mystery man, posting pictures of them on holiday together. "When you've been on a TV show people think that you're going to be really high maintenance", she said. "They think that you're going to have high expectations, that you're all about the glitz and glam, when actually, I'm completely the opposite. "Yes, I like to go out to an event every few months but I'm totally down to earth and normal. "And I think that being on a TV show means you do attract the wrong kind of people as well." 6 Marylise and Franky split after 'becoming more like friends Credit: Channel 4 6 Marylise later dated 2022 groom, Matt Murray

Rylan Clark sheds light on 'intense' journey as he declares 'love' for ITV co-star

Rylan Clark has gushed over his 'love' for his former ITV co-star, as the pair opened up to one another on the presenter's BBC Radio 2 show Radio host Rylan Clark has openly expressed his love and admiration for his co-star, who he first met while finding fame on an ITV show. The 36-year-old ex-contestant was chatting to the singer-songwriter on his Radio 2 programme about her latest book when he burst into glowing praise. ‌ Rylan was speaking with former X Factor judge Tulisa, 37, following the launch of her new memoir 'Judgement: Love, Trials, and Tribulations', chronicling her life and career journey. ‌ Tulisa rose to stardom as the lead singer of N-Dubz, before penning several books and featuring on various TV shows including I'm A Me Out of Here!. ‌ Chatting to his friend on his BBC Radio 2 programme, fellow writer Rylan showered Tulisa with compliments over her book's brilliant reception. He said: "I've got to say I'm also an author, Tulisa. I'm also an author. So far, it's doing incredible, it's, like, on the Amazon best sellers list already. It's all kicking off. For anyone out there, we had this chat last night, you know I'm a Tulisa fan, I love you to bits. "But for anyone, you don't even need to know who you are to read this story, because it is so intense. It is literally, I can already see the film, clearly, it's going to be Jennifer Lawrence playing you." This marks another occasion the pair have supported one another in the chaotic realm of entertainment. In an Instagram post shared months ago, Rylan declared: "Never been prouder @tulisacontostavlos. From 2012 to now we've been through a lot and I'm so proud we stayed by each others side. Now it's time for everyone to know your truth. ‌ "We've never publicised it, we've just been there for eachother. I'm so happy your words will now be heard by everyone. Tulisa's book Judgement is out now x #Day1 x." In response, Tulisa replied: "Love you will all my heart you beautiful earth angel." (sic) In recent years Tulisa has spoken about the difficult period she endured in the public eye, saying that she had tried to end her own life following being deceived in a sting operation by 'Fake Sheikh' Mazher Mahmood. ‌ Although she faced charges for supplying class A drugs, her case was thrown out when it came to light that Mahmood had lied in court. She revealed that her "year from hell" had driven her to attempt suicide on two occasions. Discussing the ordeal on This Morning, Tulisa said: "The first attempt was quite light in a sense...I was very drunk and I wasn't sure, just go for it, I've had enough. ‌ "It was the second time that after the trial had finished then I had time to really process everything that happened was the real kicker. Surviving that was a miracle." When asked about her feelings in 2025, she said that there were long-term effects on how she interacted with people. Tulisa admitted: "I don't think I'll ever trust in the same way again but I am someone who has a logical head on their shoulders. I hope for the best in people I'm not a negative person, I'm not looking for negative things in someone."
