Govt will train CSCs in AI, address duplication in State govt efforts: Vaishnaw
CSCs are key in making online government services and websites available to people living in remote areas. Lalremruata, 29, a VLE in Lawngtlai, Mizoram had 'facilitated business worth over ₹8 crore through his CSC in the financial year 2024–25,' the government said in an award citation. Mr. Lalremruata was felicitated at the event alongside other VLEs working in remote districts. There are over 5.6 lakh CSCs in India, and over four-fifths of them are in rural areas.
Aadhaar buzz
While Mr. Vaishnaw and Minister of State for IT Jitin Prasada spoke, much of the VLEs' enthusiastic applause went to Bhuvnesh Kumar, who is the chief executive officer of the Aadhaar issuing Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). CSCs have not been able to perform enrolments and major updates for Aadhaar since 2018, following an order of the Supreme Court.
Still, VLEs hope to regain that business, as Aadhaar enrolment and updates are a potentially high volume business. Mr. Prasada and Mr. Vaishnaw said they would look into the issue, but did not commit themselves to reopening all Aadhaar enrolment and update activities to CSCs just yet (VLEs can only perform address and other 'demographic' updates for the moment).
'Don't clap until the work is done,' Mr. Prasada said. Mr. Vaishnaw said he would discuss the issue with Mr. Kumar.
Mr. Prasada pointed to the issue of cybersecurity, and urged VLEs to work with the government on the issue. India has seen major digitisation, he said. 'But with such big achievements, there are equally big challenges and those challenges are of cyber security in which you will also play a very important role to equip the people of India,' he said. 'All these things are related to the security of the country. We should take care of the people and there should be a constant dialogue.'

Investigations suggest Kalam was involved in transgender community activities in Maharashtra, raising suspicions of a broader network. Police are questioning whether other community members knowingly or unknowingly supported the deception. Two local youths accused of helping Kalam obtain fake documents are under interrogation, and authorities suspect this case may reveal a larger racket involving illegal immigration and document forgery. Call records and chats from Kalam's phone are being examined for further clues. Deportation proceedings begin Kalam has been detained for 30 days under the Foreigners Act. Additional DCP Shalini Dixit told reporters, 'He has been living in Bhopal for the last 8-10 years. Before that, he was in Maharashtra. We received a tip-off through an informer and initiated the identification process. He has also travelled to Bangladesh in the meantime, and we are awaiting reports from concerned departments.' Deportation proceedings have begun, but not before a thorough probe into Kalam's activities, movements, and connections in India and abroad. The case has alarmed law enforcement, raising serious questions about national security and how a foreign national could live undetected in a major Indian city for years using fraudulent documents. Bhopal Police, alongside central agencies, are working urgently to determine the full scope of the fraud and whether this is an isolated case or part of a larger, more concerning network. Family from Birbhum deported to Bangladesh, says West Bengal migrant board Chief
A woman from Murarai in West Bengal's Birbhum district has claimed that she and five of her family members were picked up from the Rohini area in Delhi and forcibly deported to Bangladesh. In her video message, shared by Chairperson of the West Bengal Migrant Welfare Board and Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam on Saturday (July 19, 2025), Sweety Bibi appealed to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to help her return to India. 'We were arrested in Delhi, where we had gone to work. We showed our Aadhaar card and pleaded that we were not Bangladeshis, but the police threatened us. They said they will make us Bangladeshis,' Ms. Bibi is heard saying in the video. 'She is a permanent resident of the Murarai Assembly constituency and her family has lived there for generations. But no, she isn't speaking from her ancestral home. She is now in Bangladesh, where she and five others, including three minors, were deported by the Delhi Police,' Mr. Islam said on social media. Referring to remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Durgapur on Friday, when he spoke about 'Bengali asmita [pride]' being paramount to the BJP, the Rajya Sabha MP said, '@narendramodi, you came to Bengal and spoke extensively about infiltration. Let me introduce you to a woman named Sweety Biwi, an Indian citizen from Birbhum — the land of Rabindranath Tagore. In the video, she shares the painful ordeal she's going through.' 'What a tragedy! She has been wandering helplessly in Bangladesh, Mr. Islam said, adding is not the first time residents of West Bengal are being pushed into Bangladesh by security agencies. There have been reports of around half a dozen migrant workers from West Bengal being arrested in different parts of the country and pushed into Bangladesh, and later repatriated to India. Along with the 'push back', there have been reports of detention of migrants in different States like Odisha and Delhi on suspicion of being Bangladesh nationals. Among those detained were members of the Matua community, which comprises Hindu Namasudras who had migrated from Bangladesh. Mr. Islam on Friday (July 18, 2025) had shared a video of Nishikanta Biswas, a resident of Ranaghat in Nadia district hailing from the Matua community, who had said that his sons Manishankar and Nayan were languishing in police custody for the past six months in Maharashtra, where they travelled to find work. The detention of Matua members is significant as the Citizenship (Amendment) Act passed in 2019 and Rules framed in 2024 had granted citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fulfilling Telangana's long-standing demand for a coach manufacturing factory at Kazipet, he said. Live Events Noting that the Indian Railways has bagged an order to export 150 locomotives, Vaishnaw said work on exporting metro coaches has also begun. "India will emerge as a major railway manufacturing and exporting country in the future," he said. The demand was reiterated during the Telangana statehood agitation , and the unit has now become a reality under PM Modi's leadership, he said. The unit is expected to provide employment to around 3,000 people and generate indirect employment for many others, Reddy added. Speaking to reporters, Vaishnaw said Hyderabad city is a prime focus for the development of the railway network. The South Central Railway General Manager, headquartered in Secunderabad, has been given a target to increase the network's capacity in the Hyderabad area (including Secunderabad and other stations) from about 600 trains a day to 1,200 trains per day, he said. Vaishnaw also said the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Telangana would be a game-changer. He noted that when Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently met him in Delhi, the CM had requested a 30-metre corridor alongside the RRR project to enable rail connectivity throughout the stretch.
