8 dogs seized from Oshawa home, man charged with animal cruelty
A 48-year-old man has been charged for allegedly assaulting a dog in Oshawa.
In a news release on Tuesday, Durham police said they received reports of a man physically abusing a dog and executed a search warrant on July 8 at his house in the area of Stevenson Road South and Montcalm Avenue.
During the search, eight dogs were seized including the canine that had been abused, police said. There is no word on the condition of the dog.
All dogs were taken by Animal Welfare Services and are being assessed and medically treated.
The man is facing a charge of willfully cause unnecessary pain or suffering or injury to an animal.
Police said he was released on an undertaking.

Victim injured during buy-and-sell meetup in downtown Kitchener

The victim, who was trying to sell unspecified property, arranged to meet a potential buyer at Joseph Street and Gaukel Street, near Victoria Park, on Wednesday afternoon. Police said a group of males were waiting at that location. When the buyer showed them the item, police said 'the suspects took it from the victim and hit and assaulted them with an unknown object.' The buyer had only minor, non-life-threatening injuries. One of the suspects was described as a Black man, 40 to 50 years old, and approximately 6'0' with black dreadlocks. The incident was reported to police approximately five hours later. Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact WRPS at 519-570-9777. Tips for buyers and sellers Waterloo Regional Police say safety should be the priority when buying or selling something to a stranger. As such, they have set up three designated Buy and Sell Exchange Zones in the parking lots of their detachments. 3rd person charged with murder in Barrhaven killing
Social Sharing A third person has been charged with first-degree murder in the January 2025 killing of Wilson Sabarros. Michael Journal Prest, 20, from Ottawa was charged with first-degree murder Saturday morning, according to an Ottawa Police Service news release. He joins Mia Tejada, 28, and Omar Assaad, 26, from Ottawa, who were jointly charged with first-degree murder on Jan. 17, a week after Sabarros was found dead in a home on Pondhollow Way in the city's Barrhaven suburb. Sabarros's former partner previously told CBC he was a lovely and generous man and a committed father to their two-year-old daughter. Prest is scheduled to make a court appearance Saturday, the news release said. Suspects arrested after armed robbery in Windsor earlier this month
Windsor Police have charged two men in connection with an alleged road rage incident earlier this month. Two suspects have been arrested following a home invasion and armed robbery earlier this month on July 5. Officers received a report just before 2 a.m. of a home invasion in the 1700 block of Northway Avenue. The home occupants were asleep when they were confronted by two suspects who unlawfully entered the residence. One suspect held a knife and demanded cellphones and electronics from the victims. No physical injuries were reported, but six cellphones were stolen. The first suspect was arrested on July 15, after he was found in the 900 block of Wyandotte Street East around 2:30 a.m. The second suspect was arrested around 3 p.m. the next day in the 300 block of Glengarry Avenue. One suspect, a 46 year old, has been charged with break-and-enter and commit into dwelling house and robbery with an offensive weapon. The other, a 45 year old, has been charged with break-and-enter and commit into dwelling house, robbery with an offensive weapon and failure to comply with probation order.
