Sports fandom in New England has always had a huge overlap between sports, and there have been plenty of bonds made between the stars of those sports. One such bond was on display between Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla and former New England Patriots star Julian Edelman when Mazzulla came on Edelman's "Games with Names" show.
The Celtics coach spoke with Edelman about the very first tilt of his career as Boston's head coach. The duo also touched on Mazzulla's youth, what he and the Cs have been up to, his own time as an athlete, his coaching philosophy, what they learned from their fathers, and more.
They even get into things like how success can be a burden in some ways, the meaning behind a Mazzulla tattoo, what they listen to before a game, favorite films, and where to get good Pizza in Rhode Island. Check it out below!

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 27 - Jimmy Oliver (1993-94)

The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the seventh of 13 people to wear the No. 27, Boston guard alum Jimmy Oliver. After ending his college career at Purdue, Oliver was picked up with the 39th overall selection of the 1991 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Menifee, Arkansas native played his first season in the league with the Cavs, then spent time in other leagues before signing with the Celtics in 1993. His stay with the team would span a single season, coming to an end when he signed with the Sacramento Kings in 1994. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Oliver wore only jersey No. 27 and put up 4.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

What does it mean to be the head coach of the Boston Celtics?

What does it mean to be the head coach of the Boston Celtics? With famous greats like Red Auerbach, Bill Russell, Tommy Heinsohn, Bill Fitch, K.C. Jones, and Doc Rivers having held such a post to name just some of the legendary names helming the Celtics over the years, it is a certain level of rarified air to even be in the same conversation with names like these. And now current Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla is among them with a title to his name as coach of the Celtics, so the Rhode Island native knows something about the answer to that question. The man himself took a stab at answering it on a recent episode from fellow New England sports legend Julian Edelman's "Games with Names" podcast, Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what Mazzulla had to say about what it means to coach the Celtics.

Cedric Maxwell expects a bad Boston Celtics season ahead

Former champion Boston Celtics forward and current Boston broadcaster Cedric Maxwell has seen the Celtics at their best and worst, both as a player and as a member of the media. So we ought to take him seriously when he is bracing for what he thinks will be a particularly bad season for the Celtics in their coming 2025-26 campaign. After Boston elected to trade away veterans Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday while letting critical backup big man Luke Kornet walk in free agency to the San Antonio Spurs, it became pretty clear in a hurry that a soft tank for the team was in the cards. When they signed former Minnesota Timberwolves depth players Luka Garza and Josh Minott to help backfill the minutes Kornet, Holiday, and Porzingis will leave behind, it all but confirmed that this was the plan. The hosts of the CLNS Media "Cedric Maxwell" podcast, the eponymous Cedric Maxwell and his co-host John Zannis, took some time on an episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below! If you enjoy this pod, check out the "How Bout Them Celtics," "First to the Floor," and the many other New England sports podcasts available on the CLNS Media network: This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Cedric Maxwell expects a bad Celtics season ahead
