Refreshed Sinner ready for Cincinnati title defence
The 23-year-old lost a marathon French Open final to rival Carlos Alcaraz in June before gaining revenge over the Spaniard at the All England Club last month to secure his fourth Grand Slam title overall and second of a difficult season in which he served a short ban for an inadvertent doping offence.
Sinner opted to prioritise his health following that victory and will return after a near month-long absence from the circuit when he takes to the court over the weekend in Cincinnati after getting a first-round bye.
'The body and mind need to recover and need to understand what happened,' Sinner told reporters in Ohio on Wednesday as he explained his scheduling.
'I'm very happy I took some time off, seeing my family and friends and very important people I have around. In the past, I made some mistakes sometimes, starting too early at times.
'I had conversations with the whole team, trying to understand what's best. When you win big titles, they're very special moments and then you have to leave them.'
Sinner sported a protective sleeve on his right elbow when he practised with Christopher Eubanks on Wednesday, sparking concerns that he was still feeling the effects of an injury sustained during his title run at Wimbledon.
The Italian said, however, that he was only using it as it gave him more stability.
'The elbow is good. Today was the first time that I put the sleeve on because I liked the feeling of the sleeve,' he said.
'The impact with the ball is slightly more stable and I liked it at Wimbledon. I had to see how it is when it's very hot and humid because it's a bit different.
'It's going to be something I take into consideration, but I really love the feeling of pure striking.'
The Cincinnati tournament is a tune-up event for the U.S. Open that runs from August 23 to September 7 - REUTERS

Trump-owned courses to host PGA Tour, LIV events in 2026
COURSES owned by President Donald Trump will be hosting events on both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf for the first time in the same year in 2026. LIV Golf has announced it will return to Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C. in Sterling, Va., next year. The Saudi Arabia-backed tour has had an event on a Trump-owned course every year since its inception in 2022. It last held an event at the Trump National Golf Club in 2023. The 2026 event, scheduled for May 8-10, will be one of 14 events on the tour. The PGA Tour, meanwhile, has scheduled an event at Trump National Doral, just outside Miami, according to Sports Business Journal. The tournament is expected to be played April 30-May 3, which slots in three weeks following the Masters and two weeks ahead of the PGA Championship. Per SBJ, the tournament could be a signature event that includes a $20 million purse. Both LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have a history of hosting events at Doral. LIV tournaments were played there for the first four years of its existence, 2022 to 2025, before the circuit didn't return to the Blue Monster this year. That opened the door for the PGA Tour to return to Doral and add to its 54-year history of events there. The last one was the 2016 World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. - Reuters

Antonio leaves West Ham after contract not renewed
JAMAICA striker Michail Antonio has left West Ham United after his contract was not renewed at the end of last season, the Premier League club said on Thursday. The 35-year-old was involved a serious road accident in December when his car hit a tree on the way home from training, breaking his thigh bone in four places, and he did not play for West Ham again. Antonio joined the London club from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and made 323 appearances, scoring 83 goals to become West Ham's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League. 'Michail will always be a much-loved and respected member of the West Ham United family. As has been the case since December, the Club will continue to support and assist him in his ongoing rehabilitation, offering him access to training, facilities and medical care if needed,' West Ham said in a statement. 'Dialogue continues over his future involvement with the Club in an alternative capacity - including one that would enable others to benefit from his experience and leadership qualities - and he will forever hold a special place in our 130-year history.' Antonio helped West Ham win the Europa Conference League in 2023, ending their 43-year wait for major silverware. Antonio made his competitive action to return in June as a substitute for Jamaica in a CONCACAF Gold Cup game against Guatemala.
