Crystal Palace learn deadline for decision on Europa League fate after launching appeal
Crystal Palace have formally lodged their appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport over UEFA's decision to kick them out of the Europa League.
The Eagles will learn of CAS's decision before August 11 with chairman Steve Parish saying last week that the FA Cup winners are confident of a U-turn.
Palace were demoted to the Conference League by UEFA after the governing body ruled that they were in breach of its multi-club ownership rules.
American businessman John Textor owns a 43% stake in Palace – which he is in the process of selling to Woody Johnson – and is the majority shareholder of Lyon, who had also qualified for the Europa League. The French club are prioritised by UEFA because they qualified via league ranking rather than winning a domestic cup.
Palace argued to UEFA that Textor has never had any say over operational decisions at Selhurst Park and Parish last week told the Rest is Football podcast: "We are still fighting.
"There's an appeal process, so we go to Cas, and we're very hopeful. We think we've got great legal arguments.
"We don't think this is the right decision by any means. We know, unequivocally, that John [Textor] didn't have decisive influence over the club. We know we proved that beyond all reasonable doubt because it's a fact."
CAS said that the appeal is also against Lyon and Nottingham Forest, who are set to replace Palace in the Europa League should the court rule that UEFA's decision was correct.
Parish previously said after UEFA's initial announcement on July 11: 'We are obviously devastated, most importantly for the supporters, supporters of all clubs should be devastated for it.
'This means something, you win a cup for the first time in your history and it's like winning the lottery and going to the counter and not getting the prize.
'It is a bad day for football. Most right-minded football fans will see what a terrible injustice this is for the football club and one that I hope someone can remedy because I do believe that nobody in football wants to see this, I don't think UEFA want to see it. Clubs that rightly qualify being locked out on the most ridiculous technicality that you could imagine.'

The Light Blues navigated a tricky test in Panathinaikos to progress in the Champions League Max Aarons believes Rangers are ready to answer Russell Martin's call and storm all the way back into the Champions League proper. The Bournemouth loanee isn't thinking about the Europa League safety net secured by the battling victory over Panathinaikos - as he wants to be among Europe's elite. But they came through heavy pressure in both legs to secure a huge 3-1 win on aggregate. Martin's possession-based style has placed huge demands on his players. But Aarons reckons confidence has soared on the back of their Athens success. He said: 'Five weeks in, you never know. We've prepared as much as we could, but you never know going into that first game how it's going to feel. 'Coming through that, growing into that game, ideally we'd start better in this game again. But coming here, you have to ride a little bit of pressure. 'To be in any successful team, you have to be able to do that and come through those moments. Yes, we want to dominate games more, but I think this is a really, really good step for us now. ' Martin's men have little time to recover before another huge test in tomorrow's Premiership opener at Motherwell. Rangers have failed to win on the opening day in both the last two seasons. And the 25-year-old full back knows it's vital they get off to a Fir Park flier and lay down and early marker. He said: 'Of course, it's going to be different in the league. But like I said, that confidence and robustness that you build from playing game in, game out is what you want. You don't want to be waiting a week or 10 days for your next game. 'It's important that we all recover as well as possible, so that come Saturday we can start the league season with a big win. 'It's a big game and we have to take [care of] that now. This confidence coming to Panathinaikos, that is not an easy game and we have to take that into the league, where I believe we can beat anyone.'

The vile communication appears to stem from a game that was played more than FOUR YEARS ago. Although his four-year spell at Ibrox was often blighted by injury, the former Leeds and Anderlecht frontman played an integral role as the Gers won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021. He also won both domestic cup honours with the Light Blues and scored on the club's run to the Europa League Final in 2022. Roofe spent several months as a free agent before being snapped up by Derby County in February. Although he was released at the end of the season, the striker has continued to train with the Rams this summer and play in their pre-season matches. He could yet sign a new deal ahead of the new season. But in a rather shocking turn of events, Roofe has shared an absolutely sickening message he's received on social media. He shared the disturbing message to his Instagram post from an anonymous account who's image is just a glass of beer. The horrific post contains death threats. It says: "Hi IDIOT. Although the twisted punter doesn't detail any specific incident, it's likely it relates to the former Rangers man's sending-off during the second leg of the tie. Roofe was one of two Gers players to be shown a red card in a 2-0 defeat at Ibrox that saw the Light Blues exit 3-1 on aggregate. He was dismissed on 61 minutes after catching the Czech club's goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar flush in the face with his boot when challenging for a high ball. Kolar has continued to wear a head guard during matches ever since the clash.
