Pakistan's chief of army staff General Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah is scheduled to visit Washington DC, for the US Army Day celebrations on June 14, top intelligence sources have told CNN-News18. He will join other military leaders to commemorate the US Army's 250th anniversary. According to sources at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington DC, Munir is expected to arrive on June 12.
During this visit, the US is likely to urge Pakistan to take action against terrorist groups targeting Afghanistan and India. The invitation appears to be linked more to the ongoing US-China rivalry and Pakistan's strategic importance than any stance against India. Due to Pakistan's close ties with China through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the US harbours concerns about Pakistan's neutrality.
Given the current geopolitical climate, the US is unlikely to view Pakistan as a credible or neutral mediator, said sources. This visit has also provoked political reactions within Pakistan, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) planning protests against Munir's visit and labelling him a criminal.
Pakistan is expected to seek assurances from the US regarding the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating from Afghanistan. Historically, Pakistan has sought US mediation on various issues, while India firmly rejects third-party involvement. The US prefers bilateral dialogue and is unlikely to alter its stance in favour of mediation, sources said.
Pakistan recognises the potential debt trap associated with China and is eager to attract investment from other global powers. The country possesses valuable resources such as lithium, copper, gold, and rare earth minerals, for which it urgently requires investment. However, Pakistan is wary of potential colonisation similar to China's approach.
The visit aims to manage the strained security relationship between the US and Pakistan. Pakistan will likely pursue its agenda on mediation in Kashmir and seek investments in its mineral resources. However, tangible outcomes may be limited, as India is unlikely to accede to any external demands regarding Kashmir.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 13 (ANI): BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday, shortly after receiving a notice from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to appear before it on June 16 in connection with alleged irregularities in the Formula E race held in Hyderabad. Taking to X, KTR wrote, 'When you cannot run a government, keep people busy with a circus and distractions! Congress and its clown CM's antics won't deter us.' KTR said that he would cooperate with the ACB officials, asserting that the Rs 44 crore in question was transferred through official banking channels and remains in the Formula E account. 'I have been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to appear for 'investigation' on Monday at 10am, in Formula-E case where 44 crore was transferred from Bank to Bank and the money is very much in the Account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials!' he said. Taking a swipe at Revanth Reddy, KTR invoked the 2015 cash-for-vote scandal, saying, 'Meanwhile, can someone remind me who just completed 10 years of being caught with a Black Bag full of cash?' Challenging Revanth Reddy to a public face-off, KTR proposed a lie detector test, stating, 'Mr. Revant Reddy, As we both are facing an ongoing ACB investigation, Why not both of us take a Lie Detector test in the presence of a Judge, broadcast it on Live Television and let the whole of Telangana decide who's the culprit. Do you have the courage to take the test along with me?' He also criticised the alleged misuse of public funds, saying, 'Why waste crores of public money by repeated enquiries and propaganda, especially when you keep claiming every day that the state is bankrupt.' KTR is accused of making unregulated payments, some of them in foreign currency, during the organisation of the Formula E race in Hyderabad under the previous BRS government. Supporting her brother, BRS MLC K Kavitha condemned the ACB's summons, alleging a political vendetta. 'I strongly condemn the Congress government issuing notices to our Working President KTR again as part of its political agenda. No matter how many conspiracies you hatch, we will continue to expose your failures in the public sphere,' Kavitha said in a post on X. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against KTR and others. The ED initiated the case following the FIR filed by the Telangana ACB in the Formula E funding case. (ANI)

Confirming that he received a fresh ACB notice on Friday, the BRS leader said that, as a law-abiding citizen, he would fully cooperate and appear before the ACB on Monday at 10 am. "The Congress came to power on false promises and is now resorting to circus-like distractions to cover up its incompetence. The CM is trying to shift focus from his govt failures. No matter how many notices he sends, this bankrupt Congress govt cannot stop us from being the voice of the people of Telangana," said the former minister. He stated that ₹44 crore had been transferred transparently and officially from the HMDA's govt account to the Formula-E organisers, and that the money still remains in the organisers' account. US' J.Jill's Q1 sales dip 4.9% as OMS transition impacts growth
US-based women's apparel retailer Inc has reported a 4.9 per cent year-on-year decline in net sales to $153.6 million for the first quarter ended May 3, 2025, citing a $2 million impact from its Order Management System (OMS) cutover. Comparable sales, including both in-store and direct-to-consumer channels, fell 5.7 per cent. Direct-to-consumer sales, accounting for 46.7 per cent of total revenue, declined by 5.4 per cent. Gross profit slipped to $110.4 million, with gross margin down slightly to 71.8 per cent from 72.9 per cent a year ago, the company said in its financial statement. Operating income dropped to $19.1 million from $28.4 million, while net income fell to $11.7 million from $16.7 million in Q1 FY24. Earnings per diluted share declined to $0.76 from $1.16. Adjusted EBITDA stood at $27.3 million, down from $35.6 million. The company closed three stores during the quarter, ending with 249 locations.
