Dar in UAE to lead 12th JMC session

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday arrived in the UAE for the 12th session of Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).
The session will be held in Abu Dhabi today.
The 12th session of the Pak-UAE JMC is being held after 13 years, following its scheduling in October 2024.
The last session was held in Islamabad from 6-7 Nov 2013.
The JMC serves as the highest institutionalised platform for bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE, a DPM's Office statement said.
The session will take forward the agenda of deepening strategic, economic and development cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
Pakistan delegation led by the DPM/FM comprises secretaries and senior officials from key ministries including economic affairs, commerce, energy, maritime affairs and interior.
The UAE side will be led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan along with high-level representation from relevant Emirati institutions.
The session will review progress across multiple domains of bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development and IT. A number of legal instruments are expected to be finalized during the session to institutionalize sectoral cooperation.
The session will provide an important opportunity for both sides to align their economic priorities and unlock the potential of enhancing scope of mutually beneficial partnership.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the "growing importance" of Pakistan-UK ties, agreeing to increase high-level contacts, expand cultural and educational exchanges and further strengthen economic and development partnerships. The UK remains Pakistan's largest European trading partner and its third-biggest export destination globally. The two sides reviewed efforts to increase bilateral trade, which stood at $2.974 billion in 2021, and welcomed growing British investment in Pakistan, which has so far crossed the $10 billion mark. Britain's development assistance in areas such as education, health and macroeconomic stabilisation was also acknowledged. Pakistan and the UK maintain an Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD) framework, covering cooperation on counterterrorism, climate change and regional stability, while also leveraging the presence of over 1.6 million Pakistani diaspora members in the UK to foster closer people-to-people ties. Both Dar and Rayner agreed to continue exploring new avenues for collaboration under what they described as a mutually reinforcing strategic partnership. Separately, Senator Dar held a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, to reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to the organisation and express support for its sustainable development and connectivity agendas. Dar felicitated Botchwey on her appointment and sought enhanced Commonwealth attention towards Pakistan's vulnerability to climate change.

ISLAMABAD: Top Chinese diplomat, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, is visiting Islamabad for co-chairing the 6th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue on August 21, 2025. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar had invited the Chinese FM to visit Pakistan, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson, Shafqat Ali Khan announced in a statement on Tuesday. The visit is part of the regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China to further deepen their 'All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership', reaffirm support on the issues of respective core interests, enhance economic and trade cooperation, and reaffirm their joint commitment to regional peace, development and stability. Wang Yi will reach Islamabad from New Delhi after concluding his crucial visit of India. The two sides will review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-China bilateral relations and exchanges views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. Pakistan, China hold consultations on arms control, non-proliferation, disarmament It is to mention here that DPM Dar last visited Beijing on his three-day official visit on May 19-21 to discuss regional and bilateral discussion following Pakistan-India tension in the wake of April 22 Pahalgam attack. Dar had met top Chinese leadership. Furthermore, the FO spokesperson said the 10th Round of Pakistan-China Bilateral Consultations on Arms Control, Non-Proliferation, and Disarmament was held on 18 August 2025 in Beijing. Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, Additional Secretary of the Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security Division at Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sun Xiaobo, Director General of the Department of Arms Control at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, led their respective delegations. The two sides engaged in a comprehensive exchange of views on issues related to global and regional peace and security. They also reviewed the situation in South Asia, with particular emphasis on the challenges to security and strategic stability. The discussions covered a wide range of topics related to disarmament and non-proliferation, focusing on the agenda of the UN General Assembly First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and key international disarmament agreements, such as the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The security implications of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence were also examined. Additionally, the dialogue addressed bilateral cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology and outer space. During his visit, Ambassador Tahir Andrabi also participated in an interactive roundtable at the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA). The session was attended by distinguished former diplomats, practitioners, academics, and think tank experts. The Pakistan-China Dialogue on Arms Control, Non-Proliferation, and Disarmament is a key element of the broader strategic engagement between the two countries. Pakistan views this dialogue as an essential platform for meaningful consultations on security and stability, as well as on issues related to arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation. ISLAMABAD: The Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, had a breakfast meeting with Commonwealth Secretary General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, in London, Tuesday. The deputy prime minister congratulated her on her appointment as the seventh Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and welcomed her leadership. Reflecting on their earlier discussion at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, Dar emphasised Pakistan's deep commitment to the Commonwealth as a founding member and reaffirmed its steadfast support for the organisation. He expressed confidence in the Commonwealth's role as a vital platform for fostering shared values and building consensus among member states. Dar assured the secretary general of Pakistan's strong commitment to the Commonwealth's Sustainable Development and Connectivity agendas. He underscored Pakistan's intent to play a more active role in promoting intra Commonwealth trade and development. Additionally, he underscored Pakistan's acute vulnerability to climate change and sought the Commonwealth's support in addressing this pressing challenge. Underscoring Pakistan's leadership in youth and gender initiatives, Dar noted Pakistan's co-chairmanship of the Commonwealth Youth Task Force and its role in modernising the Commonwealth Youth Programme. He also expressed pride in Pakistan's role as host of the Secretariat of the Commonwealth Asia Youth Alliance. He appreciated the Commonwealth's support for Pakistani youth and hailed the recent signing of the landmark Letter of Intent between the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the British Esports Federation to collaboratively develop a vibrant Esports ecosystem in Pakistan.
