Overwhelming community outreach helps Menasha Police Department quickly identify fishing gear vandals

MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The two individuals believed to be involved in a recent incident involving were quickly found by police thanks to what they say was an overwhelming amount of help from the community.
According to a release from the Menasha Police Department, the individuals involved in the recent fishing gear vandalism incident near the Menasha Locks were positively identified just four hours after the case was made public.

Police say this is thanks to what was the overwhelming number of tips and messages from the public that helped to directly lead to the identification of both of the individuals involved in the incident.
The department says it also received several calls and messages asking how they could help the young victims, with numerous calls asking how to make donations coming from all throughout the Fox Valley.
This wasn't just a case of identifying suspects, it was a powerful example of what happens when a community pays attention and takes action. The support, the outrage, and the generosity we've seen remind us why serving Menasha matters. We're grateful, and we're proud.

While the Menasha Police Department is not actively soliciting donations, officers say the MPD will facilitate the collection of donations from the members of the community who wish to do so.
Green Bay Metro Fire Department holding its first-ever 'Rescue Rally'
Donations will be accepted at the Menasha Police Department from now through Friday, June 6, at 4:00 p.m. during normal business hours.
All donations will be going directly to the victims.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A second illegal immigrant found in Fond du Lac County has been convicted of human trafficking sexual assault involving his co-defendant's daughter. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced that Juan Carlos Rocha-Mejia was convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child after pleading no contest. 42-year-old Wisconsin man arrested for 4th OWI after swerving in between multiple lanes Co-defendant Elia Antonio, the mother of the victim, was previously convicted of human trafficking of a child, failure to protect a child, and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. Bond was revoked for Rocha-Mejia, and the judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation. 'Today is another step towards justice for the survivor, with the second defendant being convicted for a disgusting attack on a child,' said Toney. 'We look forward to the upcoming sentencing hearings to hold both defendants accountable and help the survivor move past the court process. I am grateful for the excellent investigative efforts by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office and ADA Menzl.' The investigation revealed that Rocha-Mejia and Antonio are illegally in the United States. The convictions stem from a sexual assault of Elia Antonio's daughter on March 18, 2024. Antonio gave her daughter to Rocha-Mejia to be sexually assaulted for approximately $250. Rocha-Mejia held the child in a van and attempted to duct-tape her as he began to sexually assault her. Multiple hurt in Sheboygan County crash involving dump truck, one severely injured The victim bravely fought back, biting Rocha-Mejia, and escaped to a nearby residence. The defendant's DNA and the survivor's DNA were found on duct tape located in the van. Rocha-Mejia faces up to 40 years of initial confinement. The HubCAP is used to roll through neighborhoods and provide information, resources and more to community members without moving around too much. This new expansion features a mobile classroom.
