2025 Platinum Business Awards roadshow reaches oil-rich Miri
PBA's organiser SME Association of Malaysia said the roadshow focused on promoting and introducing the awards' core values, evaluation criteria and nomination process to the business community in Miri.
The aim was to encourage more local enterprises to take part in this prestigious national platform and strive for greater recognition.
Sarawak transport minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said Miri is not only an important city in the state but also a crucial part of Malaysia's industrial development journey, where the entrepreneurs have laid a solid foundation with courage and determination.
"PBA is more than just an honour, it is a reflection of a company's resilience and core values. It recognises those who stay true to their mission in challenging times, continue to create value and dare to innovate.
"I hope Miri's outstanding businesses will shine through this year's awards and stand tall on the national stage," he added.
The association's national president Dr Chin Chee Seong said the roadshow also engaged with local SME community and recognise the efforts of the Sarawak SME Association in nurturing entrepreneurs.
"SMEs are currently facing numerous challenges, including rising operating costs, minimum wage hikes, e-invoicing implementation and fuel price adjustments. We will continue to be a voice for SMEs," he said.
He urged SMEs in Miri to join the Sarawak SME Association to amplify their voices at both the state and national levels.
Sarawak SME Association president Jordan Ong said SME Malaysia and the former continue to expand influence and strengthening engagement with SMEs across the states.
"Bringing this prestigious national award to such a vibrant city is timely. It allows us to connect, share experiences and recognize the exceptional business talents nurtured on this land," Ong added.
Organising chairman of the 2025 PBA, Yeow Wah Fuong, said this year's evaluation framework centres around three core values, which is leadership, integration and sustainability that aim to identify outstanding enterprises with strong business foresight.
He added that the 2025 edition features 21 award categories spanning various sectors from technology and environmental innovation to service excellence and corporate culture, ensuring a broad platform for companies of different scales and industries to be recognised.

Power up Mosjaya hawkers centre without delay, S'wak minister tells MCC, SEB

MIRI (July 18): State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has urged Miri City Council (MCC) and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to expedite electricity supply to the two reconstructed hawker centers and markets at Mosjaya Commercial Centre. During a working visit today, Lee expressed surprise that the facilities remain without power despite having been completed two months ago and already in use by hawkers. 'It was already completed two months ago, but I found that there is still no electricity supply during my working visit today. 'I call upon the council and Sarawak Energy to connect the power supply without delay as everything is ready,' said the Senadin assemblyman. The two centres were rebuilt by the city council after being damaged in separate fires previously. Lee was accompanied by councillor Jeffery Phang and members of SUPP Riam during his visit. Lee also addressed safety concerns raised by operators, calling on the council to build a ramp to the coffee shop section of Tamu Mosjaya to improve accessibility and patron safety. Minister: Drainage, irrigation projects require proper process, no shortcuts

MIRI (July 15): The implementation of drainage and irrigation improvement works cannot be rushed as they must follow proper procedures, said Minister for Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. Lee pointed out that multiple stages are involved, including planning, applying for funding, and engaging consultants. 'All these projects take time ― from planning to securing funds, up to awarding the tenders to contractors. We cannot take shortcuts. Consultants must be appointed to conduct studies, surveys, and to draft plans. 'The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) must then submit these plans to the State Planning Authority (SPA) for approval before proceeding with project design and tender,' he told reporters during a site visit to the proposed drainage works at Taman Lopeng here yesterday. As such, Lee urged residents to understand the situation and not assume that the authorities are ignoring flood issues in their area. He said DID Miri has drawn up plans for a major drainage upgrade project covering areas from Taman Tunku to Padang Kerbau. 'The RM50-million project has been in the pipeline for nearly three years and funding for its implementation has been approved,' he said. The project, slated to commence by the end of this year, aims to mitigate flood in low-lying and flood-prone zones from Taman Tunku to Padang Kerbau. Lee added that this is one of two major drainage projects approved for his constituency. 'The other involves areas in Senadin and Lutong with a project value of RM45 million,' he added. On the maintenance of an earth drain stretching two kilometres in Pujut Padang Kerbau, Lee said the flood drain discharges into Sungai Dalam. According to him, RM75,000 has been allocated for cleaning works, which commenced last week and are expected to be completed within two weeks.
