Longtime Browns RB and legend Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans

Yahooa day ago

We have likely seen the last of running back Nick Chubb in a Cleveland Browns uniform.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that, barring a bad physical, the former All-Pro running back is expected to sign with the Houston Texans on Monday. This comes after Chubb suffered season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons to end his time in Cleveland. This includes a devastating tear of his ACL and MCL in 2023.
The writing was on the wall in Cleveland at the end of April. The Browns drafted not one, but two running backs in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. They used a top-40 pick on Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins, then turned around to use their fourth round pick on Tennessee's Dylan Sampson. The Browns also renegotiated the final year of Jerome Ford's contract to lower his base salary, effectively securing his roster spot.

The Browns have committed to overhauling their running back room with youth.
Chubb ends his time in Cleveland with over 6,800 yards and 51 touchdowns on the ground. He made four Pro Bowls during his time in Northeast Ohio. He will forever go down as one of the best to put on the brown and orange uniform over his seven years spent in Cleveland.
Best of luck to a Cleveland legend as he looks to rejuvenate his career in Houston.

Raiders officially announce a multi-year extension with All Pro punter AJ Cole

It's official. Raiders will hold onto their latest elite punter for a long time to come. Wednesday the team officially announced they have signed punter AJ Cole to a multi-year extension. The deal is a reported four-year contract which makes Cole the NFL's highest paid punter. Advertisement The deal is well-deserved as Cole has proven himself to be the NFL's best punter over the past four seasons. It's been an impressive rise for the former undrafted free agent tryout player. That's right, he didn't just go undrafted. He had to try out for the team in rookie minicamp back in 2019 to earn a contract. From there he's gone on to be twice named AP First Team All-Pro (2021, 2023) and head to three straight Pro Bowls (2021-23). Cole has topped the NFL in several areas since he joined the league in 2019 including his 48.6 yards per punt and 44.7% of his punts inside the 20-yard line. His 50.8 yards per punt average last season is tied for the second-best in Raiders history (min. 50 punts) and the fifth highest single-season average in NFL history. Advertisement No franchise in football has had more great punters than the Raiders. Starting with Ray Guy who is the only ever full time punter to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and continuing with Shane Lechler who has the best shot at becoming the second ever punter in Canton. Between Lechler and Cole, the Raiders have absolutely dominated the punting game in the NFL this milennium. Expect this stat to hold at least until 2030 with Cole's extension keeping him in Silver & Black until 2029. With the Raiders having signed AJ Cole to an extension, who could be next to get an extension in Las Vegas? Nick Chubb has campaigned for another NFL chance through the offseason with impressive videos from the weight room and could have a potential suitor in the Kansas City Chiefs. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Nick Chubb looked every part of a top-five workhorse running back through the first five years of his career. All but one of those campaigns he finished with 1,000 yards with the lone miss coming in his rookie season when he had 996. Advertisement A nasty leg injury ended his 2023 campaign after Week 2 and he has struggled to show he still possesses those same abilities. This ultimately led the Cleveland Browns to part ways with him this offseason. Chubb has done his part in making himself more marketable to a new team, posting a number of videos from the weight room. Chubb's physical gifts do not cease to impress, but does he have enough to convince another NFL team to give him a chance? Alex Buck of NFL Analysis believes the Kansas City Chiefs, given their history with veteran running backs, make the ideal landing spot for Chubb ahead of next season. "Nick Chubb has been out to prove that he can still play at a high level, having fought his way back to fitness from a gruesome knee injury in 2023. He struggled in 2024, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry, but appears to have gotten some of his explosiveness back ready for a new season. Advertisement "If he does get signed, it'll likely be a very minimal prove-it deal with a potential contender. Look no further than the Kansas City Chiefs, who are no strangers to rotating veteran running backs into the offense." The Houston Texans have jumped in here. ... and now it's official, a one-year deal is done for Chubb in Houston. Kansas City may not have been the best place for that experiment. Isiah Pacheco has the top spot on the depth chart locked up and behind him the Chiefs have enlisted two experienced backs already in Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell. That goes without mention of late-round pick Brashard Smith who the team thinks of in a high regard. Advertisement This is certainly not the flashiest backfield in the league but fits Andy Reid's scheme. Now if Pacheco goes down again that changes the complexion of this position and perhaps some alternatives are explored. But does Houston need him as a Joe Mixon helper? So it seems … And this point in the offseason, the Chiefs are not in need of any additions in this area, especially for a player who admittedly is not in very high demand. Magic Reportedly Open to Making Major Move By Trading Two Players in Offseason

Magic Reportedly Open to Making Major Move By Trading Two Players in Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Orlando Magic are one of the NBA's youngest and most exciting teams in the league. Advertisement They have made the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 2019 and 2020 seasons. With a core of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs, it's clear the future is bright. Orlando lost in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers a season ago and were sent home by the Boston Celtics in five games about six weeks ago. Despite their improvement over the last two seasons, expectations are growing and there's potential for major moves regarding the roster ahead of next season. The team clearly lacks perimeter shooting, ranking dead last in the league during 2024-2025, hitting just 31.5% of their three pointers. So, finding consistent shooting is step one. With Banchero and Wagner leading the show, the Magic excelled at scoring inside the paint, as well as earning free throws. If you pair that young duo with more spacing, it will make their lives much easier. Advertisement On top of shooting, they could also use a couple of well established veterans, but it might be at the expense of some of their youth. According to Kevin O'Connor, Orlando is open to potentially packaging players like Cole Anthony and Jonathan Isaac to acquire rotational upgrades. Injuries derailed this past season, with Banchero and Wagner each missing chunks of the season due to suffering torn obliques. Backup center Mo Wagner tore his ACL last December, causing him to miss the majority of the season and Jalen Suggs underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in early March, which ended his year. Advertisement A healthy Orlando squad will make a huge difference next season and if they can bring in any established high-level role players, they will be a force in the Eastern conference in the near future.
