Villa 'here to stay' - reaction after Champions League chase hots up

Yahoo12-05-2025

Aston Villa can no longer finish lower than seventh, meaning they are guaranteed European football in at least the Conference League next season.
And with two games remaining, former Premier league midfielder Michael Brown and the Telegraph's Luke Edwards are backing Unai Emery's men to qualify for the Champions League for a successive season.
"It is an impressive achievement," said Edwards on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "They have rallied again.
"They have Manchester United and Tottenham left to play, who seemingly don't bother to play at weekends and just weekdays, so they have a real chance of sneaking into the Champions League."
Brown added: "I have fancied them to do it for a long time because I thought they would come up strong. Their recruitment in the January window was excellent and they have gone well since then.
"I expect them to win their final two games. They are a really consistent team now and the squad is really good.
"Villa are in their stride and here to stay."

Chelsea make verbal enquiry for Lyon winger Malick Fofana

Chelsea have made a verbal enquiry for Lyon winger Malick Fofana. The Premier League club have made their interest known for the 20-year-old Belgium international. He is among a number of options being considered and conversations are ongoing. Fofana joined Lyon from Belgian side Gent in January 2024 and he is contracted to the Ligue 1 club until 2028. Advertisement He provided 11 goals and six assists across 41 appearances in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign, including six goals during Lyon's run to the Europa League quarter-finals. Fofana earned his first Belgium call up in October 2024 and has been capped once at senior level. Chelsea are in the market for a wide player this summer following the decision not to make Jadon Sancho's loan move from Manchester United permanent. A striker was another priority in the window with Liam Delap arriving from Ipswich Town earlier this month.

Huddersfield sign Villa defender Feeney on loan

Huddersfield have signed Aston Villa defender Josh Feeney on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old becomes the fifth signing of the summer for the League One outfit and a third defensive acquisition inside the last week following the arrivals of left-back Sean Roughan and centre-back Josh Low. Advertisement Feeney, who joined Villa's academy in 2021, brings valuable experience of third-tier football having spent last season on loan with Shrewsbury Town. Manager Lee Grant thanked the Premier League club for trusting his side with one of their "bright young talents". "Josh is a young talented defender who has a season of experience playing in this division, proving he can deal with the demands of a busy schedule," Grant told the club website. "He is ready and capable of making another step up as he becomes another addition to our back line." Feeney is the fifth signing of Huddersfield's summer following the previous two defensive acquisitions, midfielder Ryan Ledson and winger Marcus Harness.
