A Fresh Look for Your ID The Launch of the Revamped Bahrain's National ID Card

Is your ID card about to expire or in need of a replacement? We are pleased to announce the launch of the newly redesigned and revamped Bahrain's National ID card. This upgraded version is a significant leap forward in modernizing the national identification.
The new ID card comes with several key improvement features from design aspect, as well as security and quality aspects. The new ID Card look and feal is inspired by the ancient and modernized features that resembles the Kingdom's rich history with over 3000 years. The recently launched ID card made from polycarbonate material, that makes it resistant to breaking, scratching, heat, and environmental factors, allowing it to last longer. The photo and data on ID card are laser-engraved, which makes the ID card even more secure. Being the 1st in GCC, Bahrain's new ID card includes an integrated travel application, developed in collaboration with the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA). This is in addition to many security features that have been embedded to the revamped ID card, which meet the latest and advanced international standards.
If your current card has expired and you need to obtain the new ID card, you can easily do it through the ID card services in the Kingdom of Bahrain's National Portal bahrain.bh or at MyGov mobile App (Bahrain.bh/apps). The photo should be used for the ID card is similar to the Passport photo with white background, it should be taken within the last 6 months in color.

You can also submit inquiries via the National Suggestions and Complaints System, Tawasul, available at bahrain.bh/tawasul, or through the Tawasul app, which can be downloaded from the eGovernment Apps Store at bahrain.bh/apps. TDT | Manama The Statistics and Population Registry sector has achieved several key milestones in 2024, representing a significant step toward enhancing transparency and data quality. This was emphasised by His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), who said that these achievements have contributed to the strategic decision-making of the Kingdom of Bahrain, supporting comprehensive and sustainable development. Al Qaed highlighted the continuous support of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Guidance He also lauded the guidance of H.E. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT), which has accelerated digital transformation, adoption of advanced technologies, and developing readiness to implement government policies in alignment with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Al Qaed noted that ID card and population registry statistics for 2024 revealed over 900,000 transactions completed related to ID, population, civil records, and address services, out of which 95% were completed through digital channels. He said that most of the transactions conducted at the service centres were related to biometric data collection and signatures. The ID card issuance and renewal marked 405,000 transactions in addition to 33,000 birth and death certificate requests and over 15,000 address service transactions. eServices Al Qaed also highlighted that iGA launched several new eServices via Bahrain's National Portal ( including updating household status online using the eKey, in addition to adding a QR code to verify ID card statements.

The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has officially launched a new digital service enabling Bahraini citizens residing abroad to apply for the issuance, renewal, or replacement of their national ID cards through the national portal Through this eService, citizens or their first-degree relatives can conveniently submit their applications online. Once processed, the ID cards can either be delivered internationally via Aramex courier or collected by an authorized person from the Identity Card Service Center in Isa Town, if preferred. This initiative aims to streamline access to essential government services for Bahrainis living outside the Kingdom, making it easier to manage ID-related transactions remotely. Enhancing Access to Government Services Ms. Duaa Sultan Mohammed, iGA's Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry, emphasized that the launch aligns with the authority's commitment to enhancing digital services and improving accessibility for all citizens. She noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts guided by the directives of His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT). 'The new ID card eServices reflect our ongoing dedication to adopting advanced technologies to meet the needs of Bahraini citizens wherever they are,' said Ms. Duaa. 'We aim to deliver high-quality, secure, and user-friendly solutions that simplify government procedures and elevate citizen satisfaction.' New Features and Upgrades The service is designed with strong security measures to verify submitted data and ensure smooth processing. In addition to the core ID services, the platform now includes the ability to: Update residential addresses for Bahraini citizens aged 21 and above, especially in cases of divorce, with the address holder's electronic approval. Add an organ donation icon on ID cards for individuals who opt to register as donors. View enhanced identity card certificates, now featuring new data fields such as passport issuance date, cardholder signature, and ID card status. Multiple requests can also be submitted within a single process, offering greater convenience and time-saving for users. Commitment to Digital Transformation This launch further underscores Bahrain's leading role in digital transformation across the region, with iGA continuing to enhance its eGovernment offerings to align with global best practices.
