after his disappointment at the Masters.
DeChambeau was in a prime position
to win his first LIV title in nearly two years,
but Joaquin Niemann chased him down in Mexico City, securing his spot at the U.S. Open in June. This will be a hard pill to swallow for
DeChambeau,
who is still dealing with the fallout from his loss to
Rory McIlroy
at Augusta 14 days ago.

However, a series of mistakes, particularly in his approach play, allowed McIlroy to regain control and eventually beat his Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose in a playoff to complete the career Grand Slam. For DeChambeau, it was a similar story at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
Despite being close to his best golf, the U.S. Open champion was the one to beat during the first 36 holes, leading after both the first and second rounds with two strong performances. However, he failed to capitalize on this position, posting a level-par 71, which left him three shots behind Niemann at the end of the game.
Earlier in the week, Crushers star spoke about his game's improvement, particularly his iron play, after facing some difficulties at Augusta. However, it was his performance off the tee at Chapultepec that truly stood out.

The high altitude allowed for longer drives, a bonus for the two-time major winner known for his powerful tee shots. Despite appearing comfortable on the Mexican course, DeChambeau described Chapultepec as "diabolical". "The golf course is gettable, but it's diabolical, as well," he commented after his first round last Friday.
"There were a lot of moments where I felt like I was going to get it to nine, ten-under, and there were moments where I'm like, man, 'I could be three-under or two-under easily if I don't get my act in shape.
"It's a teeter-totter golf course. You can hit a drive down by the green, but it depends on the lie, depends on the flag, depends on if you can make some six, seven-footers out here."

When asked to elaborate on his "diabolical" description the following day, DeChambeau added: "So there's some areas where the grass is really thick.
"And you barely get in the rough and you can have a super thick lie and it comes out dead and you have no control of the ball, and there are areas where in the rough it's super firm and dry and fast and you can get fliers out of there... On the greens, if you're above the hole on certain pin locations, considering where they placed them this week, it's nearly impossible.
"So really, placing yourself in good positions and giving yourself a chance to make birdie every single hole is key, but it's diabolical because of that dry factor and then wet factor that we have out here."
