What to watch for in today's NASCAR Cup race at Dover
The race for the final Cup playoff spot continues today at Dover Motor Speedway. Here is what to watch for in today's 400-lap race. Kyle Busch on a roll Kyle Busch has scored back-to-back top-10 finishes and cut 35 points off his deficit to the playoff cutline. He enters today's race 37 points behind Bubba Wallace, who holds the final playoff spot. Busch finished fourth in last year's race at this 1-mile high-banked concrete track. Busch's focus is on ending his 77-race winless drought, but he knows another good performance could close his gap to the cutline. 'Points take care of themselves when you run good,' said Busch, who starts 10th. 'Results are what matters. Being able to get stage points and being able to get good finishes will all equate to higher point totals and you not having to look at the sheet. So obviously with a 'win and you're in,' you really don't have to pay any attention to it. 'That's certainly on our radar right now. We've had a couple of good weeks where we've made up some of the deficit. I feel like there is potential and opportunity for us to continue that way, and we want to continue to climb that way and put ourselves above the cut for making the playoffs.' Also looking to make a move is Ryan Preece. He enters today's race three points behind Wallace for the final playoff spot. Preece starts today's race 11th. Wallace starts 22nd. A new tire Goodyear brought a new tire to Dover and teams didn't get any track time Saturday with practice and qualifying canceled by rain. That will present a challenge for competitors in today's race. 'I think all we can really do at this point is just try and dissect any similarities that the tire this weekend might have to a change that we've maybe already seen throughout the year,' said Chase Elliott, who will start on the pole. 'Really just make your best guess off of the information that you have in front of you with that. I feel like that stuff is always a little bit of an educated guess when you're coming to these places for the first time.' In-Season Challenge The NASCAR In-Season Challenge is down to the final four drivers. Tyler Reddick goes against Ty Gibbs. John Hunter Nemechek faces Ty Dillon. Said Reddick of his matchup with Gibbs: 'It does feel like every time I've been at Dover since Ty has been in the Cup Series, I can at least see him on the track when I'm making laps, and yeah, last year, I finished directly behind him –- so I feel like that is going to continue. I feel like we are going to be around each other a lot this weekend. Hopefully, we will have some good hard racing.' The winners of both matchups advance to next week's finals at Indianapolis with $1 million to the champion. Watch pit road Dover has one of the tightest pit roads on the circuit. That can lead to issues between competitors. Last year's race had only one pit road speeding penalty but the previous three Cup races at Dover averaged eight pit road speeding penalties. Pit road speed is 35 mph.

Mom of congressional intern murdered in DC warns parents it could happen to their kids
The mother of a congressional intern who was killed in Washington, D.C., pleaded with police to find the people who killed her son, warning other parents it could happen to their kids. Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a 21-year-old student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was shot June 30 at around 10:28 p.m., according to police, and passed away on July 1. The Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened on the 1200 block of 7th Street, Northwest. A 16-year-old male and adult female were both shot but survived. No suspects are in custody, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. According to investigators, several individuals exited a vehicle and began firing shots at a group of people, which included Tarpinian-Jachym. Tarpinian-Jachym wasn't the intended target of the shooting, they added. Tamara Jachym, Eric's mother, told Fox News Digital in an interview that police need to arrest the individuals responsible because "they will do it again." "This is a serious crime. A mile from the White House. This isn't a joke. And then it happened again this weekend," Jachym said, referring to a shooting in Washington, D.C., on 4th of July weekend that left 3-year-old Honesty Cheadle dead. "You know, the mayor has to get serious with this." "I think Eric felt safe. It was early at night. He was in a decent area and this happened. And it's a shame. And you know, Eric was the 85th victim and now we have an 86," she added, referring to the number of homicides in Washington, D.C., at the time. So far in 2025, 91 people have been killed in Washington, D.C. Jachym described her son as a "very kind, sweet, compassionate young man." "He was kind to everybody. He loved the animals. He loved to fish," she said. "He was just a really special boy. He really loved DC, loved to walk around the streets. He loved to walk to the Wharf and he liked to go out to eat. And he loved the people in D.C." The University of Massachusetts Amherst student was an intern for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., according to a statement from his office. He was set to return for his senior year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he majored in finance and minored in political science. "I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone who entered our office with a cheerful smile," Estes said in a statement. "We are grateful to Eric for his service to Kansas' 4th District and the country. Please join Susan and me in praying for his family and respecting their privacy during this heartbreaking time." In a statement to Fox News Digital, an FBI spokesperson said the agency is assisting the Metropolitan Police Department in the investigation. "We are aware of the incident and are assisting our law enforcement partners," the spokesperson said. The FBI and Metropolitan Police Department are offering a $40,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction, and are encouraged to contact (202) 727-9099.

Driver charged after plowing into Los Angeles nightclub crowd, injuring 30
A driver was charged with assault after plowing into a crowd outside a Hollywood nightclub early Saturday, police said, injuring 30 people, with bystanders attacking and shooting the driver before he was detained by authorities. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez, was charged on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spokeswoman Rosario Cervantes told AFP. Ramirez had been "undergoing surgery" at a local hospital after suffering a gunshot wound from the incident. "He is not free to leave, he is in the custody of Los Angeles Police Department," LAPD Commander Lillian Carranza told local news station KCAL. Ramirez had been kicked out of The Vermont Hollywood nightclub in East Hollywood before he deliberately rammed his vehicle into the crowd, US media reported. Based on reviewing a video of the incident, "when he hit bystanders, it was an intentional act," the Los Angeles Times quoted LAPD Captain Ben Fernandes as saying. The crowd pulled Ramirez out of the car, reportedly a Nissan Versa sedan, and attacked him in the chaos that followed the car ramming, which took place around 2:00 am (0900 GMT), police detailed. Authorities were still searching for a gunman who shot and wounded the driver before fleeing on foot, Cervantes said. Footage posted on social media showed panicked people running outside the club and victims sprawled on a blood-stained sidewalk, while others sobbed nearby. "When officers arrived, they found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound," a police statement said. More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene in East Hollywood. "We have 30 victims, 18 females and 12 males between the ages of the mid-twenties to early thirties," Carranza said. Seven were in critical condition and six were in serious condition, authorities said. Ten suffered minor injuries while seven left the hospital against medical advice. - 'Heartbreaking tragedy' - Many clubgoers were outside when the car plowed into the crowd, a taco truck and a valet stand. "They were all standing in line going into a nightclub. There was a taco cart out there, so they were ... getting some food, waiting to go in. And there's also a valet line there," Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Adam Van Gerpen told ABC News. "The valet podium was taken out, the taco truck was taken out, and then a large number of people were impacted by the vehicle." At dawn Saturday, a tow truck hauled away the car, its bumper torn off. Club employees power washed the sidewalk outside The Vermont Hollywood, which had been hosting a reggae and hip-hop event. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the incident "a heartbreaking tragedy." "The hearts of Angelenos are with all of the victims impacted this morning -- a full investigation into what happened is underway," she said in a statement. The Vermont Hollywood club said on social media it was "deeply saddened by the tragic incident." The area of the car ramming is near Hollywood landmarks including Sunset Boulevard and the Walk of Fame -- a sidewalk emblazoned with stars commemorating movie industry figures. sms-jgc/mtp Solve the daily Crossword
