Triumph Thruxton 400: Here are 5 things you need to know about the cafe racer

With its much-anticipated debut in India, the Triumph Thruxton 400 breathes new life into a legendary café racer name. Designed to blend retro character with contemporary engineering, the motorcycle is aimed at riders who value style, agility, and everyday practicality. Here are five standout aspects that define the new Thruxton 400. 1 Styling Visually, the Thruxton 400 sticks close to its heritage roots. From its low clip-on handlebars and streamlined fuel tank to the compact tail with a bullet-style seat cowl, the design draws heavily from the cafe racers of the 1960s. It also features a new headlight fairing, bar-end mirrors, and LED lighting, making the bike instantly recognisable yet cleanly contemporary. The overall stance is assertive and stylish without going over the top. 2 Engine and performance At its core is a 398cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 41 bhp and 37.5 Nm of torque. While based on the same platform as the Speed 400, the Thruxton gets a tweaked camshaft and updated engine tune for stronger top-end performance. The power delivery is smooth and linear, while the engine retains a deep, distinctive note that adds to the riding experience. A six-speed gearbox and ride-by-wire system support precise control and modern refinement. 3 Riding position The Thruxton 400 has been designed with a more aggressive riding posture. Compared to its sibling, the Speed 400, the Thruxton's handlebars are mounted lower and closer, while the footpegs are further back and higher, pushing the rider into a sportier position. The revised suspension setup, featuring upside-down front forks and a stiffer rear mono-shock, offers sharper feedback and improved control, especially in dynamic riding conditions. 4 Features Although styled like a classic motorcycle, the Thruxton 400 is equipped with current-day features to enhance safety and rider comfort. It includes switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, a torque-assist clutch for lighter lever feel, and a USB-C charging point. The dashboard combines an analogue speedometer with a digital display, maintaining a vintage vibe while offering all necessary information at a glance. Designed with a focus on value and build quality, the motorcycle offers both reliability and visual appeal, making it a strong contender in the mid-capacity segment. Toto Wolff all praise for George Russell amid contract delay: 'We couldn't wish for a better number-one driver'

George Russell (Image credit: Instagram) George Russell's latest podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix means a lot for the Mercedes driver. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has showered him with praise, even calling him the 'number-one driver' they could wish for. Wolff's comments come amid speculation about Russell not receiving a contract extension, despite a solid performance this season. His current contract will end by the end of F1 2025 season. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff praises George Russell George Russell secured third place at the Hungarian Grand Prix — his sixth podium of the season. He is just 15 points behind third-place holder and 2024 F1 champion Max Verstappen. One or two stronger races than Verstappen could push Russell into the top three in the F1 Driver Standings. Praising Russell extensively, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff told 'When I look at George, the development he's made since he joined Formula 1 — from the fast kiddo at Williams, to being drafted into Mercedes, clearly with the greatest of all greats, Lewis Hamilton. You could already see last year he was becoming so strong on pure pace — and in terms of results, the stronger driver. Now, with Lewis having gone to Ferrari, he's taken the senior driver slot, and it happened completely naturally — and he delivers. ' Highlighting Russell's consistency and team spirit, Wolff added, 'He delivers even when the car is not at the level. He outperforms the car — you can always count on George. And beyond driving, he's great with our partners and participates in many activities that help build both his brand and ours. So, we couldn't wish for a better number-one driver.' What George Russell said about his contract extension at Mercedes Naturally, Russell was asked about his Mercedes contract — a hot topic of discussion ever since Wolff's yacht was spotted near Max Verstappen's. When questioned about the yet-to-be-finalized extension, Russell told the media in Hungary, as per Newsweek, "He [Toto Wolff] has got nothing to be worried about, I've got nothing to be worried about. Nothing is going to happen over the summer because I just want to rest, recharge, and come back stronger for the second half of the year. But there's no time pressure either way." "It will happen when it happens — it's a when, not an if. I'm 27 now, I've been with the team for four years, and next year would be my fifth. We want to build the relationship further, but it has to be right, and I don't want to rush it. I've already waited 12 months — I'm not going to rush it in the span of two weeks. We'll sit down when the time is right," he added. Triumph Speed 400 gets a price hike following Thruxton 400 launch: Here's how much it costs in India

Triumph Motorcycles India has revised the pricing of its entry-level roadster, the Speed 400, with a hike of ₹ 4,177. The 2025 model now carries a price tag of ₹ 2.51 lakh (ex-showroom), while continuing unchanged in both design and mechanical specifications. This update arrives shortly after the introduction of the new Thruxton 400, positioning the Speed 400 approximately ₹ 23,000 below the cafe racer-styled sibling. Interestingly, the Speed 400 now sits around ₹ 52,000 above the more affordable Triumph Speed T4. The recently launched Thruxton 400 revives the well-known name in a new, single-cylinder format and shares its platform with the Speed 400. However, the Thruxton 400 adopts a distinctive cafe racer identity, featuring a retro semi-fairing encasing a circular LED headlamp, clip-on handlebars, and bar-end mirrors, marking a departure from the upright ergonomics of the Speed 400. The Speed 400 continues to be offered in four colour choices: Racing Yellow, Pearl Metallic White, Phantom Black and Racing Red. It runs on 17-inch alloy wheels and features Vredestein radial tyres and adjustable brake and clutch levers, introduced in an earlier update. Powering the motorcycle is a 398 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled TR-Series engine that delivers 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. Suspension hardware includes USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, while braking is managed via a 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc. Standard features include dual-channel ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a 13-litre fuel tank. The bike weighs in at 179 kg. With the latest price adjustment, Triumph appears to be subtly repositioning its 400cc lineup as the segment grows more competitive.
