Furrows dominate Rootman to clinch men's title
Furrows dominated both the long and short rallies, successfully containing Rootman's aggression to secure a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Rootman started with high energy and had several chances to take the first set, but he was inconsistent. While it wasn't an easy win, Furrows praised his opponent for making him work.
'I played well. Heinrich is very solid. I was 4–0 up in the first set, but he won three successive games, including two breaks. I thought I was in trouble, but I kept my head in the game and got through it,' said Furrows.
While the opening point of the match was brief as Furrows took an early lead, the second featured a 19-ball rally that ended with a backhand winner from Furrows.
Despite Rootman's powerful strikes, Furrows' calmness and experience made the difference. He raced to a 4–0 lead before a lapse in concentration allowed Rootman to win the next three games. However, Furrows quickly regained control, using a combination of power, placement, and pressure to force unforced errors from his frustrated opponent. He closed out the set by winning the final two games, 6–3.
The second set saw continued long rallies, though less drama. Furrows took the first two points, and while Rootman clawed back to 2–1, he couldn't keep up with Furrows' tactical play. The second seed maintained the upper hand in the serving battle to close out the match 6–2.
Rootman acknowledged Furrows' dominance: 'It was a tough match. We played a couple of insanely long rallies. Credit to Shane. I think he missed five balls in the entire match. He didn't miss the big points. I was playing out of my comfort zone and it forced me to miss some balls.'
Other results:
Women's singles final: Unseeded Bosnian Iman Bajramovic defeated fourth seed Almè van Schalkwyk 6–3, 6–2.
'I'm happy I won because I went through many mental blocks to get to playing strong and getting match points,' said Bajramovic.
U12 girls' final: Paris Omenogor beat Emma van Rooyen 6–1, 6–2; U14 girls' final: Kamogelo Plaatjie beat Lisa Jonker 6–3, 6–0; U16 girls' final: Wendy Modiba (Limpopo) beat Megan van Vuuren 6–1, 6–2; U12 boys' final: Cole Joyce beat Judah Brasg 7-6, 6-3; U14 boys' final: Johann van der Walt beat Veer Trikamjee; U16 boys' final: Jordan James Haynes beat Luke Verwey 6–3, 6–3.

'Not what we're looking for' – Nabi on Kaizer Chiefs linked foreign striker
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared his thoughts on the club potentially signing former TS Galaxy star Dzenan Zajmovic. The Bosnian striker scored eight goals in 25 matches for the Rockets last season. In recent weeks, he was linked with a move to the Chiefs, but has since refuted reports that he was in contact with the Soweto giants. Nabi has confirmed the striker's statement, saying the player might not be what Kaizer Chiefs is looking for. 'I don't want to start about the striker from Galaxy. I don't know if he is in the vision of the club. I also don't know if his administrative problem is finished,' he told the media. 'I don't know. But if we have the opportunity to recruit him, particularly if he has residence automatically, yes. 'The window is not closed. I think if you have opportunities, our scouting team will do the work. If you have a good opportunity, then why not? 'But I want a player with more qualities than I have. I don't want a player with the same quality,' Nabi concluded. Kaizer Chiefs made six signings this season, but only one of them is a striker. With Ranga Chivaviro released, Amakhosi need a top striker to assist the new man, Flavio Silva and also Ashley Du Preez. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. ‘The window is not closed': Nasreddine Nabi hints at more deals for Kaizer Chiefs
More deals? Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has hinted that the club could make more deals ahead of the closing of the transfer window. Photo: Kaizer Chiefs on Facebook Image: Kaizer Chiefs on Facebook Kaizer Chiefs could be preparing for more business in the transfer market as the club looks to sign a striker to address their troubles in front of goal. With the transfer window open until the end of the month, head coach Nasreddine Nabi has hinted that they are still looking for that final piece of their jigsaw. The latest striker who has been linked with a move to Naturena is TS Galaxy's Belgian-born Bosnian, Dzenan Zajmovic. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Nabi preferred not to mention the player's name but did not explicitly rule out a move for the 30-year-old. I'm not sure if he's part of the club's plans or if his administrative issues have been resolved. But if the opportunity arises to recruit him – especially if he has residency – then yes," Nabi said. He added: "The window is not closed. I think if you have opportunities, our scouting team will do the work. If you have a good opportunity, then why not? But I'm looking for a player who brings more to the table – not someone who offers the same qualities as those we already have." Speaking on Tuesday, Zajmovic denied he had been in touch with Chiefs, saying: '… with regards to Kaizer Chiefs, they never contacted me. I have seen people writing a lot of nonsense that I'm negotiating with them, but nothing like that has happened.' Chiefs signed striker Flavio Silva in this transfer window but have since been linked with a number of other strikers. In recent weeks, Peter Shalulile and Thembinkosi Lorch's names have been mentioned in Chiefs' search for a striker. Shalulile is contracted with Sundowns until 2027 but has reportedly been looking for a way out of the club, while Lorch is seemingly not in the club's plans for the future. The club is also tracking the Cape Town Spurs duo of Asenele Velebayi and Luke Baartman. With less than a month left in the window, all eyes will be on Naturena to see whether Chiefs can land the kind of forward who can truly transform their attacking fortunes – or if the club's search for a reliable goal-scorer will continue to drag into the new season. With Chiefs aiming to reclaim their place among South Africa's elite, finding a consistent goal-scorer has become a non-negotiable. IOL Sport
