See Glasgow? See that Still Game mural? Two points, quick...

Not everyone is in agreement, unfortunately.
Diary correspondent David Donaldson has been perusing social media, and was shocked to discover mountains of mutinous invective heaped upon the innocent mural.
'Some of the comments are genius,' concedes David, though he says the one that sums up Glasgow best was posted by the person who wrote: '…traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals, traffic cones, murals…'
Mind your language
A colleague of reader Karen Hughes arrived at work with a beatific grin slathered across his face, which he explained by saying: 'My daughter bought me a lovely waterfall pen for my birthday.'
For a moment Karen was confused by this ambiguous statement, then she replied: 'What I think you mean is your daughter bought you a lovely fountain pen.'
Slim pickings
The Diary is intrigued by the English language, and one day we hope to master it.
Though, of course, first we will have to understand it.
Which might prove tricky, points out Keith Billingham from Newton Mearns, who says: 'Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing?'
Foster Evans says that as you are heading towards Amarillo, you'll pass Elk City, where birds are safe unless… you're a chicken. Then you're just a meal. (Image: Contributed) The name game
Our American cousins are a daring bunch, especially when it comes to the naming of their progeny.
Reader Nick McFarland knows a chap in the States who has a kid that, for some reason, he decided to name… Kid.
'What happens when he becomes an adult?' Nick asked the visiting pal, when they were enjoying drinks one evening.
'Guess he's stuffed,' shrugged the pal, and had another sip of his whisky.
Hot and bothered
The sun did its big glittering ball in the sky thing, at the weekend.
Lots of folk enjoyed the heat treat, though others, not so much.
Susan Lamb was in her local supermarket in Glasgow's southside, and overheard an elderly woman say to one of the workers: 'Ooh… lovely air-conditioning you've got. I might stay here all night.'
'You'll never get away with it,' replied the worker, hopefully in jest, for he added: 'If I find you hiding in the frozen peas, I'll be punting you right out those sliding doors.'
Game on
Exasperated reader Liz Price gets in touch to tell us: 'Autocorrect keeps making me write things that I didn't Nintendo.'

David Beckham says 'it looks terrible' after Victoria shares his horror haircut

Victoria Beckham shared David's 'terrible' trim with their fans. Victoria Beckham 's recent Instagram post revealed her husband David's awful haircut that his wife deemed 'terrible'. While David Beckham is usually somewhat of a style icon, it's unlikely that his new hair will be starting any trends. ‌ Victoria asks David while holding the camera to his face: "what have you done?" When he refuses to respond, she asks him the same question again. ‌ Sheepishly, the former England football player looks away from the camera while strategically placing his hand on his head to hide the hair do. He then admits: "The thing of the clippers fell off my head." ‌ Revealing the accident, he bends his head towards Victoria who zooms in on his shaving disaster as she struggles to contain her laughter. Looking up at her, David says with a serious look on his face that it was "not funny." ‌ And in response, the mum of four says: "Do you know the hours of content that the kids have got from this. It does not looks good. I'm going to always be honest with you. It looks terrible." And it seems her followers shared the same sentiment, reports the Mirror. One person wrote in a comment: "I like the victory laugh." Another penned: "Look at the good side it's summer and you can allow your head to catch sun rays. Victoria is very supportive and sincere." ‌ But not everyone seemed to agree as one person said: "I always find vb a bit condescending to David." It comes after pictures emerged of their eldest son Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham taking time out to enjoy a holiday in St Tropez. ‌ And while there where pictures of the couple, who have only been married for three years, putting on a united front while hugging and kissing on her father's yacht, body language expert Judi James spotted something completely different. Nicola is seen clutching Brooklyn's hand as they made their way off the yacht and she looked strained. And this prompted Judi to recognise that Brooklyn's natural protective nature has kicked in amid the feud with his family. ‌ In an exclusive chat with the Mirror, Judi explains: "With her distant, expressionless eye gaze and her hand either clutching Brooklyn's arm or encased in his hand, Nicola is looking like the tragic heroine here, perhaps wanting to suggest some vulnerability and strain behind her normally cool and confident exterior." She added: "This is a look that might make most caring husbands wary and trigger their protective side, which is what appears to have happened with Brooklyn here. "While his wife walks along in her dramatic black fur tippet and with her hand placed on her bag to provide an emphatic and perhaps symbolic display of her wedding rings, Brooklyn looks more relaxed and dominant." Judi continued: "Clutching her hand in his with his, with the back of his hand showing fully and the wrist bent in a protective clasp. His mood looks confident and even rather upbeat here as though he enjoys being the strong guy in the relationship. His chest is splayed, his arms are held out and there's a smile brewing on his face." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Then in 2000, Bubka landed a job with talkSPORT, bringing his iconic New York tones to the UK sport radio station. And his standing in golf saw him respected and revered by all. That included two of the greatest golfers of all time - Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Nicklaus was made an honourary citizen of St Andrews in 2022 and personally invited his dear friend Bubka to be there. And even the notoriously private Woods went out of his way to greet Bubka at The Open that year, seeking him out after a press conference after the iconic broadcaster travelled to the event despite poor health. Rubert Bell of talkSPORT paid an emotional tribute to his great friend and colleague. Bell said: 'Radio is about voice. There is no doubt when you heard Bob Bubka speak, it just grabbed you. 'Unmistakable, iconic, coupled with a wonderful, unique style. For over 25 years, his distinctive American tones enthralled and entertained talkSPORT listeners. 'His love for the game of golf shone through, coupled with a cheeky, almost rebellious element which made him not only a delight to listen to - but in my case - to work with. Baffled Rory McIlroy hits TWO balls with ONE shot in incredible never-seen-before incident at The Open 'Bob was unashamedly biased when it came to Tiger Woods - in awe of his achievements - particularly as he had been brought up in the Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer era. It was a testament to Bob that Tiger always seemed to reach out and say hello. 'In later years, Bob's health made it difficult to travel and his last Open in situ was at St Andrews in 2022. 'He loved being there - and the relish in which he drove his motorised wheelchair around the city was fantastic. 'But what he also loved was the interaction with talkSPORT listeners - and I know in the end, being part of the talkSPORT family was so important to him as he struggled with ill health. 'Even when physically frail, that voice never faltered. Covering the majors will never be the same without that delicious voice drawing us into the magnificent sport of golf.' Others in the golfing world took to social media to post their messages and memories. Mike Parry said: "I'm really saddened to hear of the death of my great pal and legendary golf commentator Bob Bubka. "He was THE best with an incomparably silky voice and unparalleled knowledge of the game. I worked six Opens with him. Joyous professional days... RIP Big Man." Jonathan Norman added: "After marvelling at his voice and broadcasting style for a decade, it was one of my career highs to work with Bob at the 2014 Ryder Cup. "He will be missed greatly. Thoughts with Janice and all Bob's family and friends. RIP." Another wrote: "RIP Bob Bubka….. the voice of golf." And a final user wrote: "Ahhh such sad news. RIP Bob Bubka, the voice of golf. Could listen to him all day."

British man orders McDonald's in Benidorm and cost of two meals leaves him floored

A man was left gobsmacked when he purchased two meals from McDonald's in Benidorm, wondering why it was that price. He also complimented the view from the restaurant No matter where in Europe you go, chances are, you won't be too far away from a McDonald's. It's cheap, cheerful, and if you're a fussy eater in need of some home comforts while you're away, it's the perfect place to nip with pals. But when one Brit in Benidorm ordered two meals from the Spanish Maccies, he was left floored at how much it cost him. ‌ "Could this be the nicest McDonald's in the whole entire world?" Harry, who posts on TikTok as @harrytokky, asked his followers. He showed the view from the Maccies, saying: "You're not gonna get better than this." Unlike your typical Maccies outlets, this one looks out onto the sea. ‌ But he then joked "who cares about the view," saying that he was going to go inside because he was "desperate for a Happy Meal". ‌ Sitting outside, he said: "And just like that, the food has arrived. Now you will not believe how cheap this was. We've got two meals here. Guess how much this costs? €11 (£9.53)". Harry continued, explaining that there are two fries, two burgers, two drinks, and some chicken nuggets on the side as well. ‌ He gushed: "I mean, €11? What do you think guys? I think that's an absolute bargain, let's be honest. €11? In the UK, that'd probably be at least £20." In the UK, a large Big Mac meal costs around £7.69, depending on location. Meanwhile, six chicken nuggets cost around £3.49, depending on location. So Harry is right, it is significantly cheaper in Benidorm. The whole meal would cost roughly £18.87, which is 98% more expensive! ‌ While some people in the comments section moaned that Benidorm McDonald's has "slow" service, others said the wait was well worth it. One said they'd had the "best Big Mac" ever at the Benidorm Maccies, while another gushed it was the "best view" you'll get under the Golden Arches. However, the taste may differ. One visitor remarked: "Their chicken nuggets are definitely different from English ones". People have also taken to TripAdvisor to share their experiences of Benidorm's McDonald's. One said it was a "fantastic" place to get "cheap food on vacation" while in Spain. Meanwhile, another reviewer wrote: "Visited this McDonald's as we wanted something like home while on holidays, and it was a great experience. I got the McCrispy Burger meal, and we got the bacon & cheese wedges for sharing, and it was all so delicious! "It came out slightly colder than we would have liked, but we still ate it. The restaurant was clean and the staff were lovely! "We used the machines as you entered to order our food, and they provided all languages. McFlurry was great as well. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family".
