Cabinet nod to new parking policy for paid facilities in 17 key UP cities
Lucknow: Parking problems in congested market areas and prime localities in key cities of Uttar Pradesh will soon be addressed to a large extent as the cabinet on Tuesday gave a go ahead to the urban development department to implement the new parking standardisation rules across 17 cities administered by municipal corporations in the state.Under the policy, more land will be utilised through private participation for paid parking services in key urban centres including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Meerut, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, and Bareilly, among others.Amenities like drinking water and toilets, CCTV cameras, electric vehicle charging points, boom barriers, automated ticket dispensers will also be provided at these parking facilities.Officials clarified that no night parking charges, or monthly fee would be imposed on people in residential colonies, as was proposed in the draft document in Sept last year.Once the objections and suggestions from the public were evaluated, a presentation was made before the Chief Minister and cabinet ministers."The state authorities were of the view that the new policy should not impact the people but aim at resolving congestion and parking space crunch in busy markets and areas around govt buildings," a senior officer said, explaining the reason for withdrawing the original decision. The department is estimating a three-fold jump in annual revenues generated through parking fees by 17 corporations. Currently estimated to be in the range of Rs 22 crore to Rs 25 crore, it is expected that the revenue would go up to Rs 70 crore to Rs 80 crore with the help of the new policy.Corporations would be given more authority to regulate haphazard parking, initiate action against vehicle owners who leave their cars and motorcycles on the streets irresponsibly, discourage private vehicle owners from blocking the right of way by parking their vehicles and abandoning private and commercial vehicles on the roads for multiple days. The corporations have been asked to reserve the minimum parking fees. Cities having populations of less than 10 lakh would charge a minimum fee of Rs 10 for two-wheelers and Rs 20 for four-wheelers for two hours. Cities having a population higher than 10 lakh will impose minimum fee of Rs 15 and Rs 30 for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, respectively.Rates have been prescribed for every additional hour, 24 hours and for a month.Principal secretary, urban development, Amrit Abhijat said that every corporation would have to constitute a dedicated parking management committee which would identify, evaluate and approve the designated parking areas."Basic public amenities such as drinking water and toilets will be offered in such complexes. CCTV cameras, electric vehicle charging points, boom barriers, automated ticket dispensers, digital payment facility, reserved space for individuals with disabilities will also be provided," Abhijat said.Increased parking charges will be applicable in areas where parking on the roadside will be allowed due to space crunch and unavailability of private space.

FM Sitharaman hails SPMCIL, hopes it to get status of Navratna soon
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday lauded the performance of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) and expressed confidence that it will soon become a Navratna state-owned company. Currently, SPMCIL, under the administrative control of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Finance Ministry, is a Schedule 'A' Miniratna Category-I company of the Government of India. The government grants Maharatna, Navratna and Miniratna status to Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) based on certain pre-defined criteria, including financial parameters such as track record of profit and net worth. Inaugurating the Corporate Office of SPMCIL, Sitharaman appreciated the works being done by the CPSE, which include printing of currency notes, minting of coins for circulation and commemorative coins. She hoped SPMCIL would also achieve Navratna status, given its consistent financial performance. Following its capital restructuring in 2015, the company fully repaid its loan with interest by 2016-17 and continues to deliver strong returns, Sitharaman said. In fiscal 2023-24, it paid a dividend of Rs 364 crore, following a record dividend of Rs 534 crore the year before. In her speech, the finance minister noted that the CPSE delivered about 3.4 metric tonnes of refined gold to the Reserve Bank of India from seizures transferred by the Customs department. It also refined silver and gold received from institutions such as Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, among others. During 2024-25, the state-owned firm produced over 1,200 crore banknotes and 150 crore circulation coins as well as over 1.5 crore passport booklets and over 700 crore Excise Adhesive Labels, and various categories of postal and security-related stationery essential for government and public services. "I am equally impressed with the popularity of SPMCIL's souvenir coins, which play a significant role in promoting India's rich cultural heritage, history and art," she said. Sitharaman noted that in free India's recorded history, a total of 210 commemorative coins have been issued out of which 105 have been issued in the last decade, including coins celebrating events such the 2900th birth anniversary of Jain Tirthankar Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan, the 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev, the new Parliament Complex, the 1000 years of Brihadeeswarar Temple, and India's G20 Presidency. Over 20,000 coins have been purchased by the public for the new series of colour souvenir coins, which have been themed around Panchatantra, endangered species, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. Speaking during the occasion, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said the government would provide all support to the CPSEs to improve their efficiency and profitability.

Investments in renewables, roads and real estate to touch Rs 17.5 lakh crore in two fiscals: Crisil
New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): One thing that is constant across the three key sectors -- renewables, roads and real estate -- is the strong investment growth and the investments in the current fiscal and the next may touch Rs 17.5 lakh crore, Crsil Ratings said in a report. 'Over this fiscal and next, investments may rise at 15 per cent annually, reaching Rs 17.5 lakh crore compared with Rs 13.3 lakh crore in the preceding two fiscals. While adapting to the new business dynamics will pose some challenges, credit profiles of Crisil-rated developers and projects would remain resilient,' said Krishan Sitaraman, Chief Ratings Officer, Crisil Ratings. India's renewable energy, roads and real estate sectors are seeing varied trends. While renewable energy is witnessing accelerated adoption of storage-linked capacities, a sharper focus on monetisation is on the cards in the roads sector. On the other hand, 'premiumisation in residential real estate' and influx of global capability centres (GCCs) in commercial real estate are driving realignment of offerings by developers. In renewable energy, to address the intermittency of power supply, there is a transition towards hybrid or storage-backed capacities, which facilitates scheduling of power round-the-clock with greater confidence. In roads, which have a significant multiplier effect on the economy, a pick-up in project awarding will be important to revitalise the sector's growth. In real estate, the residential segment is seeing demand normalise after rapid recovery seen following the pandemic. 'Revenue growth for developers is expected to remain steady at 10-12 per cent this fiscal and next. With volume growth slated to rationalise, realisations will be supported by continuing demand for premium projects. Commercial real estate, too, will see steady net leasing growth of 7-9 per cent this fiscal and next. As India continues to remain a cost-efficient market for GCCs and domestic sectors grow at a steady pace, annual net leasing demand is poised to cross 50 million square feet by fiscal 2027,' Crisil said in the report. As these sectors transition to a new normal, they face an evolving set of challenges. While such risks can pose growth challenges, the interesting part is that credit risk profiles are likely to be resilient across the renewables, roads and real estate sectors. Manish Gupta, Deputy Chief Ratings Officer, Crisil Ratings, 'Robust operating performance over the past few fiscals and the consequent strong cash flows, have kept debt levels under control. Further, healthy investor interest, as evident from equity raise as well as asset monetisation, has enabled significant deleveraging of balance-sheets. Cumulatively Rs 2.1 lakh crore of equity capital has been deployed in these sectors over the past two fiscals driven by strong investor participation, supporting the credit profiles of developers and projects.' Karnataka Home Minister requests construction of 'Welcome' arch on Tumkur highway
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 9 (ANI): Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said that he has requested Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to give permission for the construction of a 'Welcome' arch on the National Highway in Tumkur. Speaking to reporters at Sadashivanagar, Tumkur District in-charge Minister said that Rs 5 crore has been provided from the Smart City project to build the Welcome arch on the National Highway in Tumkur. 'Union Minister V Somanna is the MP of our district. I have requested Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari through V Somanna and asked him to give permission. If permission is given, we will build a welcome arch at the beginning of Tumkur,' Parameshwara said. Parameshwara further added that many central projects need to be implemented in the district. 'Many projects related to drinking water come under the purview of the central government. Our taluk is included in this, and I have discussed it with them, he said. He further added, 'Since Tumkur city is next to the national highway, no one will know while traveling. If a welcome arch is built, it will be known.' According to Parameshwara, Union Minister Somanna will 'speak after seeing what the state government's decisions will be regarding the metro project' for Tumkur. Parameshwara stressed on Tumkur's growth and said that the district should be expanded. 'We have made an industrial hub on 20 thousand acres. Many people are asking that Tumkur should be expanded. A study is underway on this. Tumkur is 70 km from Bangalore. It will be beneficial in terms of development if it is included in the Greater Bengaluru area. We will also submit a proposal,' he said. While speaking on the Suhas Shetty murder case, Parameshwara said, 'Officials have told me that a letter has been received from the Union Home Department regarding the Suhas Shetty murder case. We will discuss this with the officials and take a decision. People from that area were talking about handing over the case to the NIA for investigation. Someone may have requested it. MPs and MLAs may have said so.' Shetty, a prominent right-wing youth leader associated with the Bajrang Dal in Karnataka's coastal belt, was brutally murdered last month in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district. The activist, in his early 30s, was attacked by unidentified assailants while returning home late at night. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The incident triggered widespread protests in the region, with local Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) units alleging a targeted killing. While speaking on the tragic stampede that occured during the IPL victory celebration event of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru, Parameshwara called the June 4 incident 'unfortunate' and said that an investigation is underway and the report will soon be submitted. 'I will not speak about the stampede incident. We have entrusted this case to the one-man commission of retired judge Michael D Cunha. He will investigate and submit a report. If we give a statement, it will have a different impact. If we are asked during the investigation, we will tell. If we give a statement now, the direction of the investigation will go in a different direction,' he remarked. Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that a one-member commission has been formed to probe the incident. CM Siddaramaiah also announced that the state government has decided to suspend top police department officials, including the Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police. Speaking to the media, the Karnataka CM stated, 'Under the chairmanship of Justice Michael D'Cunha, a retired judge of the High Court, we have appointed a one-man commission to investigate the incident.' He emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring accountability. (ANI)
