"If I was bisexual or gay, I would come out" - Magic on the gossip that surrounded him after contracting the HIV virus
"If I was bisexual or gay, I would come out" - Magic on the gossip that surrounded him after contracting the HIV virus originally appeared on Basketball Network. When Magic Johnson announced in 1991 that he was HIV-positive, the whole world was in shock. One of the biggest basketball players in history was dealing with a serious medical situation that no one knew enough about, and they could only assume the worst. However, amidst people feeling sorry for Magic, a good chunk of the media and people criticized Johnson. Due to his peculiar and flashy style of living, Earvin got blasted, as certain people claimed the point guard got what he deserved. Also, due to the disease being most common among gay men, naturally, rumors arose about the sexuality of the Los Angeles Lakers' superstar. However, in the infamous 1992 ABC interview, Magic reacted to those speculations and explained his point of view. "First of all, if I was bisexual or gay, I would come out, but that's just not me. People out here they play with me, they play against me, they all know that. Because we all ran together, we all hung out together. So, no way that Magic Johnson can be bisexual or gay, and not everybody knowing it. There's just no way," Earvin dismissed the rumors. Magic was the ultimate "player" Being the star of the most popular franchise in the NBA under the bright lights of Los Angeles made Johnson the man in the city. When you mix in the charisma and the million-dollar smile, Earvin is the perfect example of a womanizer who can do whatever he wants. When asked if it was wrong for a married man to sleep around, Johnson was honest in retrospect, but he was man enough to admit that he wasn't able to withstand the lure of the attention fame was giving him. Aside from being just plain wrong, it led to his health troubles, which Magic could admit. "Morally, it is wrong, it's easy for me to sit here and say that now. But you know I lived the bachelor's life, the Hollywood life where a lot of women came my way," Johnson explained the challenge of staying loyal as an NBA used this as an opportunity to teach Thankfully, thanks to the early detection, supreme medical care, and ART therapy, Johnson has prevented the progression of the disease and has lived a healthy life for 30+ years now. While it was challenging and shocking at the moment, Earvin used the situation to raise awareness and show others how you can deal with HIV or straight out prevent it. Johnson's friend Louise Gossett Jr. thought it was God's doing and his way, using Magic to help educate people around HIV. "Magic is a young, in-shape, major athlete -- and he's only the tip of the iceberg. ... It's the natural thing, for young jocks of all colors to womanize," the Oscar winner told The Washington Post in '91. "But if you look at the Higher Power, you think that God may have said, 'We have a problem here with morals. It's time to get a little more serious.'... Magic serves a great purpose. ... He will teach some to say, 'If you have to, use a rubber,'" he added. Nowadays, Magic is the best example and leading advocate of dealing with HIV and how you can avoid it or live with it, put into the situation. While it affected his career and life in a damaging manner, Johnson had the willpower to pull something positive out of story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

Kelly Clarkson says her ex-husband has been ill, postpones August concerts in Las Vegas
Kelly Clarkson shared that she is postponing the remainder of her 'Studio Session' concerts in Las Vegas for August as her family faces a difficult chapter. In an Instagram post shared Wednesday, Aug. 6, the singer said that she was postponing the August shows so that she could support her children as their father and Clarkson's ex-husband Brandon Blackstock has been unwell. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,' she wrote on Instagram. Clarkson and Blackstock divorced in March 2022, two years after announcing their separation. The couple shares two children: daughter River Rose, who was born in 2014, and son Remington Alexander, born in 2016. Clarkson lives with her children in New York City, where she also hosts her daytime talk show, 'The Kelly Clarkson Show.' The singer seemingly addressed her ex-husband through her music a number of times, both on her 2023 songs 'Mine' and 'Me' and her talk show when she revised the lyrics to Olivia Rodrigo's song 'abcdefu' during one of the host's 2023 performances. 'Forget you and your dad / And the fact you got half and my broken heart / Turned that (expletive) into art,' she sang at the time, which seemed to be a reference to her divorce settlement in which she had to issue a one-time payment of over $1 million to her ex-husband, along with monthly spousal support (until Jan. 31, 2024) and child support payments that amounted to over $160K. In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe in June 2023, the Grammy winner said the split, in the end, was 'freeing.' 'It's incredibly sad, and it's a dark place — fetal position on the floor crying — and there's so much loss with that, and I never experienced grief like that,' she said. 'We got to let each other go. This is not working. This is not going to pan out, and it's not working for either of us.' Clarkson made headlines earlier this year for her absences from her talk show. From late February through March, she stepped away occasionally. During that time, guest hosts including Simu Liu, Roy Wood Jr. and even TODAY's Willie Geist filled in.

Kelly Clarkson Can't ‘Risk Damaging' Vocal Cords Amid Canceled Shows as She Fights ‘Hidden Battles'
Less than two hours before she was set to hit the stage on July 4, Kelly Clarkson canceled the opening night of her highly anticipated Studio Sessions residency at Caesars Palace to avoid potential injury to her voice. 'She belts out every single note,' a Las Vegas insider spilled to Page Six on the reasons behind the sudden change of plans. 'She's an incredibly powerful singer, but it takes its toll on her vocal cords and she's come incredibly close to needing surgery before.' 'She cannot risk damaging her cords further,' explained the insider. 'She's on thin ice.' A second source revealed that Clarkson, 43, is struggling with 'serious hidden battles' that 'very few people are privy to.' 'Kelly's personal life is so insanely complicated,' the source shares. 'It's a source of emotional, and therefore, physical distress for her.' The 'Because of You' singer's 18-show residency at the Colosseum was announced in February, causing many fans to rush to buy tickets. However, they were left disappointed when Clarkson was forced to cancel her first and second shows on such short notice – especially seeing as some fans from out of state had booked pricey travel and hotels so that they could attend. Shortly after her decision to postpone the concert, a 'devastated' Clarkson took to Instagram on July 4, to explain the upsetting situation to her followers. 'We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans'' she said at the time. 'The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice.' 'I want the shows to be perfect for y'all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve,' she continued. 'The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can't wait to be back next weekend and show y'all what we've been working on.' While some fans in the comments section offered her words of love and support, others were left frustrated and suggested her decision was 'disrespectful' to attendees. One person wrote, 'I'm literally here in a homemade Kelly Clarkson T-shirt. I spent $700 on flights and $1000 on [the] hotel. Canceling one hour before the show is INSANE.' A second person pointed out, 'The crazy part is there isn't even an apology in this post.' 'I wish you would've done this sooner than 15 mins before doors opening,' a third fan chimed in, before adding, 'I hope you feel better.'
