"We delivered what we promised, BJP only spreads lies": Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
Vijayanagara (Karnataka) [India], May 20 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the Congress government has kept its promises and will continue to work for the people.
Addressing the gathering in Vijayanagara in Samarpane Sankalpa Rally, Siddaramaiah said, 'Two years ago, we made many promises to the people. Our election manifesto had 593 promises. So far, we have completed 242 of them, and we will fulfil the rest in the next three years.'
He said the Congress government also launched five major guarantee schemes to help all sections of society. 'As soon as we came to power on May 20 last year, we implemented Shakti Yojana. Then came Griha Jyoti, Annabhagya, Griha Lakshmi, and Yuva Nidhi. We gave five schemes in one year and delivered what we promised,' he said.
Siddaramaiah added that in 2013, the Congress had fulfilled 158 out of 165 promises and introduced 30 new programs, making a total of 208. 'We do what we say,' he said.
Taking a dig at the BJP, he claimed they made 600 promises in 2018 but did not fulfil even 10 per cent of them. 'This is the difference between us and the BJP. They lie all the time. Let them come and debate with us on what we have done and what they have done,' he said.
He also accused the BJP of trying to create divisions between castes, while the Congress works for unity and humanity.
In the same gathering, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi asserted that the Karnataka government would provide ownership rights to one lakh families of the state.
Addressing the gathering in Vijayanagara, the Congress leader said that whoever owns land in Karnataka must also have ownership rights.
'I got to know that a lot of people in Karnataka own lands, but they do not have their ownership rights...People from all communities were involved in this. They did not have property or ownership rights; they did not get any facilities from the Government...I raised this issue with the senior members of the party, and I told them that whoever owns land in Karnataka must have ownership rights too...Today, the Karnataka Government is going to provide ownership rights to one lakh families of the state,' Rahul Gandhi said.
He further said that unlike the BJP, the Congress model ensured that employment continues to be created.'In the BJP model, if you fall ill, you get drowned in debt. In the Congress model, if you fall ill, you have money in your pocket for treatment. In the BJP model, people have to pay lakhs of rupees to private schools, colleges and universities. In the Congress model, we give you money,' Rahul Gandhi said.
He further highlighted the Congress party's promises and said that the Congress government of Karnataka deposits money in the accounts of crores of women.
'It has been two years since the Congress Government was formed in Karnataka. We promised to provide five guarantees during the election. BJP and PM Modi said that Congress will not fulfil the guarantees. Our first guarantee was to provide Rs 2,000 every month to one crore women under the Griha Lakshmi scheme. The Karnataka Government provides this money to the accounts of crores of women,' Gandhi said.'Our second guarantee was to provide 200 units of free electricity to crores of families under the Griha Jyoti scheme. Third guarantee- Anna Bhagya Yojana: 10 kg of grain to 4 crore people. Today, crores of families in Karnataka get food grains through this scheme. Fourth Guarantee- Shakti Yojana: Free bus travel facility for women. Approximately 500 crore bus trips have been provided free by the Karnataka government. Fifth Guarantee- Yuva Nidhi Yojana: Congress government gives Rs 3,000 every month to 3 lakh youth of the state,' the Leader of Opposition said.
He further said that the poor people of the state are going to benefit from the Congress' guarantees.
'In the 21st century, digital registry (of land) should be done...The poor people of the state are going to benefit from our guarantees...I also said that there are 50,000 families who still do not have ownership rights. We want that in the next six months, they should also get their ownership rights. 2,000 revenue villages have been announced. We want 500 more revenue villages to be announced. Everyone in Karnataka should get their ownership rights,' the LoP said. (ANI)

AAP govt installing anti-drone system at Punjab borders after Centre refused to do so, says Dhaliwal
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister and Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal Monday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was installing its own anti-drone system at Punjab borders to stop influx of drugs 'after the BJP-led Central government refused to do so'. Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana in the run-up to Ludhiana West by-election slated for June 19, Dhaliwal said that instead of questioning the AAP over drugs, the BJP should first answer what it has done to stop drug influx in Punjab despite ruling at the Centre since 2014. Dhaliwal said that time and again Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann requested the Centre to get an anti-drone system installed at Punjab borders to stop drug influx from Pakistan but 'BJP did not do so'. 'Finally, the AAP government passed its own budget of Rs 52 crore to get the anti-drone system installed to stop drug influx from Pakistan,' said the minister. Dhaliwal said that he will be sending a legal notice for defamation to BJP's state general secretary Anil Sarin if he 'doesn't withdraw his statement' against him on drugs. At a press conference in Ludhiana Monday, BJP's Sarin had said that drugs were not being eliminated from Punjab as 'AAP leaders were hands in glove with suppliers'. Sarin said that not a single 'big supplier' has been arrested under the AAP government's anti-drug drive 'Yuddh Nasheyan Virudh' (War against drugs). Sarin said that on May 28, the Ajnala police had arrested two men for supplying drugs but 'minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal reached the police station to help them'. Sarin said that Dhaliwal ordered the police to 'send the arrested men to a rehabilitation centre whereas the FIR was registered against them for supplying drugs'. 'Who gave Dhaliwal this right to send suppliers to rehab?' Sarin had questioned. Denying the allegations, Dhaliwal said that either Sarin should withdraw his statement as soon as possible or he should be ready to answer the court. He accused Sarin of making 'misleading claims' to tarnish his public image, as 'the facts are exactly the opposite of what was stated'. Dhaliwal said that on May 28, the Ajnala police arrested six-seven people from Lakhowal village in his constituency for drug offence under the NDPS Act. The next day, villagers told him that two of them arrested were caught unfairly. 'The villagers claimed that they were drug addicts but do not sell them. One of those boys had returned from a rehabilitation centre just a day earlier. I went to the police station. I asked whether these two boys were drug users or sellers. The SHO said he would investigate and inform the next day,' said Dhaliwal. Dhaliwal said that he had instructed the SHO that if they were just drug addicts, they should be sent to a rehabilitation centre for treatment. The following day, the SHO sent both young men to rehab. 'Meanwhile, the SHO informed that both men had also sold some drug in small quantity. I immediately told him that they their names should be included in the FIR, and they should be arrested too. They are now in jail. I only did what our government has decided — that those who are addicts will be given medical treatment too, and those who deserve punishment will also be punished,' said Dhaliwal, while showing a copy of the FIR. He said that BJP and Akali Dal leaders do not understand the pain of drugs because their families have never been affected by it. 'But my own family has gone through this pain. My 32-year-old nephew died of a drug overdose in 2013. Upon hearing the news, I returned to India from abroad and decided to stay here. Even today, my mother and sister-in-law often cry while mentioning his name,' said the minister. 'BJP leader Sarin has levelled a grave allegation against me, and he should now be ready for legal action,' he said. He said that when drugs were being sold in large quantities during the Akali-BJP government, then Punjab Police ADGP Shashikant had launched an anti-drug campaign, which he had supported by organising a large rally with him at his village. He said that when the AAP government launched the 'War Against Drugs' campaign, they stated clearly that action will be taken against those who sell drugs, while those who are drug addicts will be treated not as criminals but as patients requiring proper treatment. 'Our goal is to eradicate drugs, which requires distinguishing between sellers and users, and taking action accordingly,' he added. 'All that BJP knows is to blame and accuse AAP. First, they should answer what they have done for Punjab, either it's drugs or water. Several times our CM Bhagwant Mann told the Centre to get an anti-drone system installed at Punjab's borders as drugs are supplied in border districts from Pakistan. We had asked them as 50 km jurisdiction inside Punjab near the international border is that of BSF. Every night our police and BSF are on vigil to stop drugs coming from Pakistan. But when the BJP government did not do anything, we passed our own budget of Rs 58 crore to get the anti-drone system in place,' said Dhaliwal. On allegations that 'no big fish' has been caught during the AAP government's anti-drug drive, Dhaliwal said: 'I don't know what size of magarmachh (crocodile) is being talked about here. Crocodiles we have caught can be big or small in size but all I can assure is that we have arrested only those persons who were actually into drug trade. No poor or innocent has been caught.'

"Nitish-BJP has not just ruined law and order, but cremated it": RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav
Patna (Bihar) [India], June 10 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, alleging a failure of law and order under his government and claiming that over 65,000 murders have taken place during his tenure. In a post on X, the former CM cited official statistics to claim that over 65,000 murders have occurred during Nitish Kumar's tenure. 'Does Nitish know, recognise and understand that during his rule, according to official figures, 65,000 murders have taken place? 65,000 people have been murdered, 65,000!', he wrote on X. Raising concerns over daylight crimes, Yadav questioned the state of policing in Bihar. 'Nitish should tell how many murders are taking place by breaking into houses before 5 p.m.?' he said. RJD Chief further added, 'Nitish-BJP has not only destroyed the law and order but has also cremated it. Bihar has never had such a corrupt, careless and lazy police.' Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, accusing it of failing on law and order and allowing the health system to collapse. Yadav said to reporters, 'Criminals are on the loose in Bihar. Many incidents are constantly coming to light, and the police seem helpless. The government is also sleeping, and it seems as if they have nothing to do with anything.., rape happens and the Deputy CM makes promises, this is the situation. This is maha-jungle raj.' The developments come as political temperatures rise in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. Opposition parties criticise the government over rising crime and alleged governance failures. Meanwhile, Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again be looking to continue their stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to unseat Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly, which has 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has 131, the BJP has 80 MLAs, JD(U) has 45, and HAM(S) has 4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates. The Opposition's INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)
