Indian stars Bumrah, Mandhana win top Wisden awards
Bumrah won the honour in the men's section after a stellar 2024 when he excelled across formats and was named player of the tournament as India won the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies.
"In an eventful year for Indian cricket, their success depended largely, if not entirely, on one factor: whether or not he had the ball," the publication wrote about the 31-year-old, who is considered the best all-format bowler of his era.
"Rarely has a cricketer stood out so overwhelmingly as he did in 2024."
Opener Mandhana won the women's honour after a prolific 2024 that included five hundreds — four of them in one-day internationals.
Mandhana also led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their first Women's Premier League title last year.
West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran was named the 'Leading T20 Player in the World'.
England's Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith and Sophie Ecclestone were named among Wisden's five 'Cricketers of the Year', alongside Liam Dawson and Dan Worrall.
The Almanack, often called "the Bible of cricket", has been published every year since 1864.

Yuvraj Singh couldn't be prouder of his protege and Indian skipper Shubman Gill after he led them to draw a memorable Test series against England. Yuvraj highlighted how the ICC Men's Player of the Month for July 2025 brushed aside the doubts regarding his overseas batting record, leading the team from the front. 'There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it,' Yuvraj said, speaking to ICC Digital on the sidelines of the '50 Days To Go' Women's Cricket World Cup event. 'So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it's a win for us, although it's a drawn series, because it's a young team. And it's not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself.' Gill was named India's Player of the Series, having amassed a staggering 754 runs, averaging 75.40 from the five Tests, which included four centuries. Yuvraj also showered praise on all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar for a gutsy, marathon stand to draw the fourth Test in Manchester. 'The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series. I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test match," he added. 'That speaks volumes. Obviously Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, I think it was incredible to do what he did.' Yuvraj conceded that what made India's resilient display through the five-Test series all the more remarkable was the fact that they did so in the absence of seasoned veterans in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. 'I think it's just fantastic because I felt when you have a young team going to England, it's a lot of pressure. 'You're filling the boots of somebody like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, it's not easy. I think the guys took it head-on.' The drawn series saw Gill and Co share the maiden Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

India captain Shubman Gill and England batter Sophia Dunkley have been declared the ICC men's and women's Players of the Month, respectively, for July 2025 following an elaborate process that included votes from an esteemed selection panel as well as those of fans worldwide. Gill became the first male player to win the Player of the Month award four times after a stupendous run in England saw him score 567 runs at an average of 94.50 in the three Tests played in July. His previous ICC Player of the Month awards were in January 2023, September 2023 and February 2025. Two women players – Ash Gardner and Hayley Matthews – have won the award four times each. The highlight for Gill during this period was his aggregate of 430 runs in the second Test in Birmingham, the second highest ever in a Test match. His scores of 269 and 161 in that Test helped level the series 1-1 and he also chipped in with a useful 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester that helped draw the match and keep the series alive. The Indian skipper, who won the award ahead of his England counterpart Ben Stokes and South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, said he was hoping to continue his good form in the season ahead. Gill said: 'It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. 'The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England. 'The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time.' England batter Dunkley edged her team-mate Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland captain Gaby Lewis for the award, showing a fine run during this period in ODIs as well as T20Is. She played in all seven matches at home against India across the two formats, aggregating 126 runs in three ODIs and 144 runs at a strike-rate of 134.57 in four T20Is. Dunkley was England's leading scorer in the T20I series and smashed a superb 92-ball 83 in the first ODI in Southampton. Dunkley said: 'I am delighted to win the ICC Player of the Month award off the back of a really hard-fought series against India. 'We would have loved to have won the series, but I think we'll take a lot from it moving towards the ICC Women's World Cup. India deserved their win, and it was a great series to be a part of.'
