Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani's Antilia is one of the most expensive private homes in the world.
The Antilia, the lavish mansion home of Asia's richest man Mukesh Ambani, and his wife Nita Ambani, is one of the most expensive private residences in the world, valued at a whopping Rs 15000 crore (around USD 1.74 billion). However, the land upon which Ambani's grand 27-storey stands today originally belonged to an orphanage, and the land deal has been mired in controversy for nearly decades since the Reliance Industries chairman purchased it in 2005. What was there before Antilia?
According to details, Antilia was built on a piece of land where the Currimbhoy Ebrahim Yateemkhana — an orphanage built by a wealthy businessman Sir Fazalbhoy Currimbhoy Ebrahim– used to stand. Currimbhoy, who belonged to the Khoja Muslim community, had built the orphanage in 1895 for orphans and destitute children of his community.
Over the years, the Currimbhoy orphanage came under the control and management of the Maharashtra state Wakf board, who received permission to sell it Mukesh Ambani-owned Muffin-Antilia Commercial Private Limited in 2002. How much did Mukesh Ambani pay for Antilia land?
According to reports, Mukesh Ambani paid a mere $2.5 million for the land against a market value of $18 million. Later, the Ambanis sought permission to build their grand home on the property, the building plan was approved by the BMC in 2003, and construction began in 2006.
A recent affidavit filed in the Bombay High Court has claimed that the opulent mansion was built on land that was 'illegally' sold to Mukesh Ambani in 2005.
As per a report by Livelaw, the affidavit submitted by Sandesh C Tadvi, joint secretary to the Minority Development Department and acting CEO of Maharashtra State Board of Wakfs, states that a 'mischief' was committed by the then chairman and CEO, when he ratified the sale of the orphanage land to Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on March 9, 2025.
Earlier, a Bombay High Court bench headed by Chief Justice Manjula Chellur, in an order dated July 21, 2017, had directed the State Board of Wakfs to clarify their stance on challenging the Charity commissioner's permission on the sale of the orphanage land. Antilia legal battle
Notably, the then Maharashtra State Board of Wakfs deemed the transaction illegal and sent a notice to Antilia Commercial citing violation of Section 52 of the Wakf Act, 1995, which deals with the recovery of Wakf property transferred in contravention of Section 51 that bars the sale of any immovable Wakf property without the sanction of the Wakf Board.
The notice was challenged before a Wakf Tribunal on April 22, 2004, and the CEO of the State Board of Wakfs settled the issue with the Trust during the suit, and the agreement was reached that the trustees would accept that the land had indeed been Wakf property. The tribunal ruled that an annual contribution be paid to the Wakf Board, and the trustees subsequently deposited Rs 16 lakh, as per Section 72 of Waqf Act, 1995,
Notably, the trust had stated that the land on which Antilia stand today, was not a Wakf property, but later retracted their claim.
In a recent statement AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, claimed the land on which Ambani's Antilia was built, was only meant to be used for charitable purposes, however, the Trust violated that mandate by selling the estate to Mukesh Ambani.

FM Sitharaman hails SPMCIL, hopes it to get status of Navratna soon

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday lauded the performance of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) and expressed confidence that it will soon become a Navratna state-owned company. Currently, SPMCIL, under the administrative control of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Finance Ministry, is a Schedule 'A' Miniratna Category-I company of the Government of India. The government grants Maharatna, Navratna and Miniratna status to Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) based on certain pre-defined criteria, including financial parameters such as track record of profit and net worth. Inaugurating the Corporate Office of SPMCIL, Sitharaman appreciated the works being done by the CPSE, which include printing of currency notes, minting of coins for circulation and commemorative coins. She hoped SPMCIL would also achieve Navratna status, given its consistent financial performance. Following its capital restructuring in 2015, the company fully repaid its loan with interest by 2016-17 and continues to deliver strong returns, Sitharaman said. In fiscal 2023-24, it paid a dividend of Rs 364 crore, following a record dividend of Rs 534 crore the year before. In her speech, the finance minister noted that the CPSE delivered about 3.4 metric tonnes of refined gold to the Reserve Bank of India from seizures transferred by the Customs department. It also refined silver and gold received from institutions such as Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, among others. During 2024-25, the state-owned firm produced over 1,200 crore banknotes and 150 crore circulation coins as well as over 1.5 crore passport booklets and over 700 crore Excise Adhesive Labels, and various categories of postal and security-related stationery essential for government and public services. "I am equally impressed with the popularity of SPMCIL's souvenir coins, which play a significant role in promoting India's rich cultural heritage, history and art," she said. Sitharaman noted that in free India's recorded history, a total of 210 commemorative coins have been issued out of which 105 have been issued in the last decade, including coins celebrating events such the 2900th birth anniversary of Jain Tirthankar Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan, the 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev, the new Parliament Complex, the 1000 years of Brihadeeswarar Temple, and India's G20 Presidency. Over 20,000 coins have been purchased by the public for the new series of colour souvenir coins, which have been themed around Panchatantra, endangered species, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. Speaking during the occasion, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said the government would provide all support to the CPSEs to improve their efficiency and profitability.

Silver price today: Precious metal hits new all-time high of ₹1.07 lakh per kilo; gold trades flat on MCX

New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) Silver prices soared ₹ 1,000 to hit a fresh peak of ₹ 1,08,100 per kilogram in the national capital on Monday, in line with firm global cues, according to the All India Sarafa Association. On Saturday, the metal traded flat at ₹ 1,07,100 per kg (inclusive of all taxes). Prior to that, the white metal on Friday had soared ₹ 3,000 to hit another record high of ₹ 1,07,100 per kilogram. Traders said silver prices surged due to strong investor demand, a weak dollar against major currencies, heightened geopolitical tensions, and firm industrial demand from the EV and solar sectors. Gold of 99.9 per cent purity fell ₹ 280 to ₹ 97,780 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes) on Monday. The precious metal had declined by ₹ 1,630 to ₹ 98,060 per 10 grams on Saturday. The yellow metal of 99.5 per cent purity dipped ₹ 250 to ₹ 97,350 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes). It had depreciated by ₹ 1,500 to ₹ 97,600 per 10 grams in the previous market close. Globally, spot gold rose marginally to USD 3,312.84 per ounce. "Gold consolidated in the lower end of its range on Monday amid mixed signals. The highly anticipated talks between the US and China have raised hopes that the two largest economies can make progress on various disputes, which could reduce demand for safe havens". "Additionally, the latest Nonfarm Payrolls report in the US was strong, prompting traders to re-evaluate their expectations regarding a potential easing of monetary policy by the Federal Reserve, which also serves as a headwind for the yellow metal," Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst, Commodities at HDFC Securities, said. Spot silver rose 0.9 per cent to USD 36.30 per ounce in the international market. "Silver prices stood out with strong gains hitting a 13-year high on the global stage and achieving lifetime highs in the domestic markets," Mehta Equities' Vice-President, Commodities Rahul Kalantri said. "Improving sentiment from softer European inflation and trade optimism helped silver breach the USD 36 per ounce level, breaking out of a long-standing consolidation range," Kalantri added.

Investments in renewables, roads and real estate to touch Rs 17.5 lakh crore in two fiscals: Crisil

New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): One thing that is constant across the three key sectors -- renewables, roads and real estate -- is the strong investment growth and the investments in the current fiscal and the next may touch Rs 17.5 lakh crore, Crsil Ratings said in a report. 'Over this fiscal and next, investments may rise at 15 per cent annually, reaching Rs 17.5 lakh crore compared with Rs 13.3 lakh crore in the preceding two fiscals. While adapting to the new business dynamics will pose some challenges, credit profiles of Crisil-rated developers and projects would remain resilient,' said Krishan Sitaraman, Chief Ratings Officer, Crisil Ratings. India's renewable energy, roads and real estate sectors are seeing varied trends. While renewable energy is witnessing accelerated adoption of storage-linked capacities, a sharper focus on monetisation is on the cards in the roads sector. On the other hand, 'premiumisation in residential real estate' and influx of global capability centres (GCCs) in commercial real estate are driving realignment of offerings by developers. In renewable energy, to address the intermittency of power supply, there is a transition towards hybrid or storage-backed capacities, which facilitates scheduling of power round-the-clock with greater confidence. In roads, which have a significant multiplier effect on the economy, a pick-up in project awarding will be important to revitalise the sector's growth. In real estate, the residential segment is seeing demand normalise after rapid recovery seen following the pandemic. 'Revenue growth for developers is expected to remain steady at 10-12 per cent this fiscal and next. With volume growth slated to rationalise, realisations will be supported by continuing demand for premium projects. Commercial real estate, too, will see steady net leasing growth of 7-9 per cent this fiscal and next. As India continues to remain a cost-efficient market for GCCs and domestic sectors grow at a steady pace, annual net leasing demand is poised to cross 50 million square feet by fiscal 2027,' Crisil said in the report. As these sectors transition to a new normal, they face an evolving set of challenges. While such risks can pose growth challenges, the interesting part is that credit risk profiles are likely to be resilient across the renewables, roads and real estate sectors. Manish Gupta, Deputy Chief Ratings Officer, Crisil Ratings, 'Robust operating performance over the past few fiscals and the consequent strong cash flows, have kept debt levels under control. Further, healthy investor interest, as evident from equity raise as well as asset monetisation, has enabled significant deleveraging of balance-sheets. Cumulatively Rs 2.1 lakh crore of equity capital has been deployed in these sectors over the past two fiscals driven by strong investor participation, supporting the credit profiles of developers and projects.'
