Philippart de Foy makes Amo switch to Freemason Lodge

Rhyl Journal02-07-2025
The Belgian, who already trains in the town, will move to one of the most historic stables in the country, which Joorabchian recently purchased upon the retirement of Sir Michael Stoute.
The news comes at the same time as the completion of an extensive refurbishment and will see Freire return to his previous role as Amo's private trainer.
'First, I'd like to welcome Kevin Philippart de Foy as our new trainer at Freemason Lodge,' said Joorabchian in a statement posted on Amo's X account.
'Kevin is a fantastic horseman who understands our goals and shares our ambition. Having known and worked with him for several years, it makes this transition even smoother. We know his character fits and our ideas align perfectly.
'We believe he's the right person to take the operation to the next level, and we're excited about what's ahead with him leading the team at this historic yard.
'At the same time, I want to say a big thank you to Raphael for stepping up and doing such a brilliant job getting Freemason up and running. His work over the past few months has been crucial, and he's laid a solid foundation for the future.'
He added: 'Raphael has been a big part of Amo Racing's journey so far, and he continues to be an integral part of our team moving forward.'
Philippart de Foy said: 'I am deeply honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility of taking over at Freemason Lodge and training such an exciting string of horses for Amo Racing.
'This is a major milestone in my career, and I'm incredibly grateful to Kia and the team for the opportunity.
'Amo Racing's investment and ambition in the sport are truly inspiring, and I look forward to playing my part in what I hope will be a very successful journey together.'

Rangers handed Champions League warning as Club Brugge seize initiative to edge towards crunch play-off round

One goal was enough to separate Gers two potential play-off opponents Rangers have been handed a warning by Club Brugge after their potential Champions League opponents took a big step towards the play-off round with an away victory against Red Bull Salzburg. ‌ Gers have one foot in the final qualifcation hurdle after thrashing Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen 3-0 at Ibrox in the first leg of their third round qualifier showdown on Tuesday night. ‌ Summer signing Djeidi Gassama continued his fine start to life at Rangers by bagging a brace while fellow new boy Oliver Antman capping off his debut with a superb assist. ‌ Should Russell Martin 's men finish the job in Plzen next week, then they will face the winner of the tie between Brugge and Salzburg for a place amongst Europe's elite in the money-spinning league phase. And it's the Belgian side who will be favourites to set up a showdown with the Light Blues after claiming a shut-out win on away soil, The clash at the Red Bull Arena looked to be heading for a goalless draw until the visitors struck with 16 minutes remaining through Romeo Vermant's goal. Rangers know that reaching the play-off will see them host the first leg at home on August 19/20 against Brugge or Plzen, with the return match taking place on August 26/27. And ahead of the potential showdown, the Ibrox club have taken advantage of the SPFL's new scheme to help Premiership clubs trying to get into Europe. ‌ Martin's side are due to face St Mirren in Paisley on August 24 but should they get past Plzen will then have that game postponed to a later date to boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League. The same goes for Hibs who, if they can make it past Partizan Belgrade in the Conference League, will face Legia Warsaw or AEK Larnaca on August 21 and August 28. ‌ The capital club are currently slated to take on Falkirk on August 23. Kevin De Bruyne all but confirms Man City star wants to quit club under Pep Guardiola

Kevin De Bruyne has hinted that one of his former Manchester City team-mates is unsettled at the Etihad this summer, and that they have shared an interest in following him to Napoli Kevin De Bruyne has dropped a cheeky hint that Jack Grealish might be joining him at Napoli this summer. It comes after his own exit from Manchester City after a trophy-laden decade. ‌ De Bruyne is set to embark on a fresh challenge in Italy, having penned a two-year contract with the Serie A titans. Although he's leaving behind a glittering array of honours won alongside his City comrades, there's a chance he could coax another of the club's stars to join him on Italian soil. ‌ The Belgian maestro teased the possibility of Grealish, who has found himself on the fringes at City, making a switch to Napoli during an interview with Corriere dello Sport. When asked about if the Englishman had spoken to him about his move to Naples, he replied: "Maybe," with a grin. ‌ Grealish has fallen out of favour at City, with Pep Guardiola even making the decision to omit him from his Club World Cup squad this summer. While Everton have emerged as potential suitors for the 29-year-old, a number of other clubs have been linked with the winger, who arrived at the Etihad for £100million in 2021. Dean Smith, meanwhile, has openly shared his desire for a reunion with the former Aston Villa ace, hoping to entice him across the pond to Charlotte FC in the MLS, reports the Manchester Evening News. Yet, despite Smith's eagerness to snatch Grealish away from Man City, he conceded that the player still has "unfinished business" in Europe, and Napoli could be the answer to that. Grealish has racked up over 157 appearances for Man City, netting 17 goals and providing 23 assists. His trophy cabinet boasts three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and a Champions League trophy. He also clinched the runner-up spot at the 2020 European Championships with England and is eager to make his mark this season to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the 2026 World Cup. As speculation around Grealish continues to mount, a reunion with De Bruyne could potentially be on the horizon. That's if Grealish doesn't join Everton this summer on either a permanent or loan deal, however, with the Toffees opening talks with City with regards to the star's services. The Sky Blues are open to letting Grealish leave the north west this summer should the right deal be agreed. Considering David Moyes is looking for a squad overhaul this summer, a season-long loan may be his best option at securing Grealish for the fresh campaign. However, his hefty wages could be a hurdle, and Everton may need City to pay a portion of them for a deal to work. Livingston manager David Martindale believes it would be 'stupid' to write off Tony Bloom in his bold quest to help Hearts become Scotland's champions. The Brighton owner, who recently completed a deal to become a Jambos shareholder, has made waves in Scottish football by claiming in interviews on Sunday and Monday – during a visit to Edinburgh – that he would be 'very disappointed' if the Tynecastle club have not won the Premiership title within 10 years. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Rangers and Celtic have won every championship between them since Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen triumphed in 1985. But Martindale has no doubt that Bloom, who has enjoyed notable success at Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise with the aid of Jamestown Analytics, is equipped to back up his bullish words and crack the Old Firm stranglehold. (Photo by Ross MacDonald / SNS Group) | SNS Group 'Yep, I think he's shown he can do it with Union, very, very similar,' the Lions boss said on Wednesday, referring to the fact USG, where Bloom is a shareholder, recently won their first Belgian title in 90 years. 'I think he's given himself a lot of wriggle room by saying 10 years, but do I believe that they can achieve that? It would be a stupid man that would bet against it. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'If I was a betting man, I would put my money on Tony Bloom achieving what he said he's wanting to achieve rather than saying he's talking ludicrous. I'd definitely put my chips behind him because I think he's shown he can do it.' Martindale, whose club recently moved coach Brian Rice into a new head of football operations role, admitted he was 'envious' that his Hearts counterpart Derek McInnes had access to Jamestown – an offshoot of Bloom's Starlizard sports analysis firm – to underpin his recruitment. (Photo by Mark Scates / SNS Group) | SNS Group 'I've spoken about it at Livingston over the years, we're a good bit behind with that, but bringing Chipper (Rice) in upstairs is kind of that first stepping stone to make us a wee bit smarter with our recruitment,' he said. 'But again, you need the resources behind you to help you with that and that's always going to be a problem at a smaller club. For me, ideally, that would kind of be the basic fundamentals I'd like to work under, so I'm envious of Derek. You could say everybody's using data, but I don't think everybody does it the same. 'The way football life is going now, artificial intelligence is playing a massive part in your everyday life and it helps you make smarter decisions.
