Major game enjoyed by 15 million players shutting down in DAYS as baffled fans told it ‘will no longer be available'

The Irish Sun13-05-2025
A GAME enjoyed by more than 15million people at its peak is preparing to bow out in just a couple of weeks.
Developers have warned players that the title "will no longer be available to play" on May 29, six years after its successful launch.

Dauntless burst onto the scene with largely positive reviews and quickly gained users.
The free-to-play action role-playing game was available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One,
"Dauntless is shutting down on May 29, 2025," Phoenix Labs said.
"Dauntless will receive no additional content or updates.

"The game will no longer be available to play on May 29, 2025."
In a separate post on the game's website, the firm said: "We've made the difficult decision to shut down Dauntless due to the negative public reception of TK and subsequent decline of active players."
Despite starting off successfully, players say that changes in ownership of the company behind it "ruined the game".
"The game is nothing like I remember it when it first launched," one person wrote on Reddit.

"They literally killed their own game," another commented.
"At this point I feel like it was on purpose."
Hands-on with the Nintendo Switch 2
A third raged: "I hate to see the game die, I loved it for years, but the company that bought the game forcefully turned it into a mtx hellscape and they deserve to have it crash and fail.
"I hope the excellent devs that did the work can find new work quickly."
More game closures coming up
Online games are routinely shut down as user numbers drop.
This is because it becomes no longer viable to run the servers that host the games.
Here's a list of major games due to shut down throughout 2025:
MultiVersus - May 30
xDefiant - June 3
The First Descendant - June 19
Black Desert - June 26
Resident Evil ReVerse - June 29
Madden NFL 21 - June 30
Arizona Sunshine - July 1
Skyworld - July 1
Danmachi Battle Chronicle - September 29
WWE 2K24 - September 30
Madden NFL 22 - October 20
PGA Tour 2K21 - October 30
NBA 2K24 - December 31
WHY DO GAMES CLOSE?
By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
With most games online these days, tech companies need to maintain quite hefty servers to manage everything.
It's no cheap business to operate with millions of gamers across the world.
Naturally, people move on, leaving older games behind in the process.
There comes a point where it's no longer viable to continue offering server access so studios shut them down.
For some games that are entirely online this can render it completely useless.
But others may have a way for you to continue playing solo still.
You should usually see a prominent notification in the game warning you with instructions on what to do - provided you're still playing the game of course.

The 44-year-old reality star has now revealed his wife endured her third pregnancy loss this year. Advertisement He made the heartbreaking revelation in the latest episode of his podcast, The Viall Files. Natalie, 26, who usually sits beside her husband when the podcast is being filmed, was absent from this episode. Opening his podcast, Nick addressed Natalie's unusual absence, saying, "As you can see, Natalie is not with us. "There's no really easy way to talk about this..." Advertisement He then got candid with his listeners as he revealed the heartbreaking news. Nick opened up and said, "Sadly, Natalie experienced another miscarriage. "It is her third this year, our third this year... "There's no really good way to say it, it f**king sucks." Tensions heat up on Bachelor in Paradise as relationship tests are officially underway Nick continued, "She's obviously at home resting, healing, both physically and emotionally." Advertisement The couple are parents to their one-year-old daughter River Rose, who was born two months before they got married. Natalie first suffered a miscarriage in January of this year before enduring a second pregnancy loss just two months later. Nick explained to his listeners, "When it happens the first time, the doctors and everyone kind of acknowledge that, while terrible, this is that something that can happen. "And everyone's just... don't freak out, there's nothing wrong, it sadly can be a part of this process." Nick went on, "And then it happened the second time, you know, obviously we have a lot of amazing blessings in our life, first and foremost being River, minus like some morning sickness and things like that, we were very lucky to have a fairly easy pregnancy... Advertisement "Really no complications, which was such an amazing blessing. "Despite what's going on right now with us, our doctor keeps reminding us that that is the best sign of our future ability to grow our family." He then spoke of how the couple now feel "uneasy". "But right now obviously there's a little bit of uneasiness," he said candidly. "It's far less normal to have two and three back to back. Advertisement "Now we're kind of in that very scary process of running tests and finding out more about ourselves, and it's like this weird thing of like you want them to find something, but you don't want them to find something. "Because if they find something, you don't know what that means. We're in this kind of very uncharted territory of fact finding. Which sucks," he said. Nick also said, "I really just wanted to be transparent with you guys 'cause I know she wasn't there yesterday, people started to notice, and we're already getting messages with like a lot of concern. "So overall, Natalie is doing OK physically and healing and she's OK in that respect and emotionally, we're currently dealing with that." 5 Natalie usually appears on Nick's podcasts, but was absent for the most recent one Credit: Getty

He claimed that the two young adults were placed in his care when they were teens "for their safety" in a bombshell statement shared on Thursday night about his ex Katie. Taking to Instagram, Peter spoke out just hours after Katie said she had made contact with him after their fallout over daughter Princess. In the statement shared on his social media page, Peter penned: "For sixteen years I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones. "But staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today." He continued: "The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. "For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. "In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. "I have never made this public before out of respect for my children." Pete went on: "In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases found my ex wife had made false claims. Princess Andre takes TWO subtle swipes at mum Katie Price as she reveals what she will NEVER do to follow in her footsteps "She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise, to me and my management. "The same falsehoods are being repeated today." He concluded: "Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations that I have yet to address. Those will be dealt with in the coming months." It comes just hours after Katie spoke about reaching out to Pete in her latest podcast. Pete spoke out after the former glamour model insisted that she's a "bloody good mum" to her five children and wants to sit down with Pete to discuss their issues once and for all. Katie said: "There's no reason why both parents just can't be there to support her. Now this isn't about me. I have to clarify this. "I don't care that I'm not in Princess's show. "I don't need to raise my profile by being on Princess's show, I do enough stuff. 7 Katie Price spoke out about being a good mum in a podcast shared on Thursday Credit: Getty Images - Getty 7 Junior and Princess lived with their dad from 2018 'for their safety', Pete claims Credit: Shutterstock Editorial "All what I want to do, is just whatever my daughter does, and it's the same with Junior, I don't care if I'm in the background, but I want to watch her do her photo shoots, I wanna watch her do her signings, because that's what I did. "And my mum and you and Nan used to come along and support, and I'm proud of her. "And I just wanna be there with her because I now I feel that I've missed out on so much." She concluded: "Life would be more at peace because I don't have a problem. "For the sake of the children, there's room for everyone to support your kids. "Do you know what I mean? I'm not saying I have to stand with them and play happy families." Katie speaking out came after her daughter Princess, 18, made two subtle swipes about her mum in her new series The Princess Diaries. In episode four of her series, Princess did a photoshoot and said she "felt like my mum" as she posed up a storm. But soon after, Princess made the first of two subtle swipes in the episode. She explained how she had previously seen snaps of her mum modelling when she was younger, and how her shoot reminded her of that. Taking a subtle swipe, Princess then said: "But obviously she did topless. And I would not do topless." Then, later on in the episode, Princess seemingly took a second swipe at her mum when she gushed over how she goes to her stepmum Emily for advice. "Ems is like the best at advice," Princess gushed in the second part of the episode. She went on: "I feel like, if I'm ever in a situation that I don't want to talk to dad about, I'll speak to Ems about it."
