Ex-Kaizer Chiefs star names Amakhosi player who can sort their defence
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi feels Amakhosi have a good defender who can solve their troubles at the back.
Last season, Chiefs leaked the third most goals in the Betway Premiership under Nasreddine Nabi. The team finished ninth in the league despite winning the Nedbank Cup.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma , Tsotsetsi backed Nabi to play Given Msimango. The 28-year-old only featured 10 times last season.
'To be honest, I think Msimango didn't get enough chances this past season. For me, he is a natural defender and I believe he still has so much to offer the team,' Tsotetsi said.
'He can still solve the problem that Chiefs have at the back, but he has to be given enough opportunities to gain his confidence again. He has done it before and he can do it again. I think he still has a lot to offer Chiefs. If given a chance again, I think he can add value to the team,' the former Chiefs star told Soccer Laduma .
With two years left in his contract, Msimango has plenty of time to prove himself to Nabi and his technical team. Last season, he was mostly a forgotten figure, but suspension and injuries to key Amakhosi defenders forced the Kaizer Chiefs coach to field the lanky defender.

Springboks: Two major injury blows
The start of the Springboks' 2025 season is just around the corner, and on Thursday coach Rassie Erasmus held a media briefing to tackle a number of key questions. Once again in the interests of transparency, Erasmus painted a clear picture of the injury landscape ahead of the season-opener against the Barbarians in Cape Town on 28 June. Reporting on the injuries in the camp, Erasmus revealed that Trevor Nyakane, Frans Malherbe, Deon Fourie, Elrigh Louw and Cameron Hanekom are all nursing long-term injuries. That news was mostly known already, but it's the serious injury to Hanekom that was confirmed for the first time after he went for scans following last weekend's URC semi-final. It was hoped that Hanekom could have a key role to play for the Springboks in the absence of Louw, but it seems that he will now miss the July internationals, as well as the Rugby Championship. In the absence of Louw and Hanekom, Jasper Wiese will be the obvious option at No 8. And although he should be fit before the start of the Test season, it can't be forgotten that he is also short of game time after only just coming to the end of some injury rehabilitation of his own. Another blow for the Springboks is the fact it was revealed that another candidate at eighthman, Juarno Augustus, has yet to be medically cleared by his club, and he has been unable to report for duty this week. There could now be an opening for Evan Roos, who was recently called up to the squad, while Kwagga Smith and Siya Kolisi can also cover No 8, so there won't be any real cause for panic. Meanwhile, Gerhard Steenekamp, Ntuthuko Mchunu, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Ben-Jason Dixon, Lukhanyo Am – as well as Augustus – have to be cleared medically before they will be available for selection. Jasper Wiese, Grant Williams and Makazole Mapimpi, who are also carrying niggling injuries, however, are expected to return to action in the coming weeks. The first week of the training camp will conclude on Friday, with the players reassembling in Johannesburg on Sunday for another week of preparation before departing to Cape Town for the Barbarians match. Fitness update on Orlando Pirates star Thabiso Sesane
Orlando Pirates fans will be counting the days until outstanding defender Thabiso Sesane returns to action for the Sea Robbers. 25-year-old Sesane picked up a serious injury in February, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign. 19-year-old Mbekezeli Mbokazi's sudden emergence mitigated some of the disappointment. Thabiso Sesane started the campaign in domineering form, becoming a pillar in the heart of their defence. It was, therefore, a massive blow to the club and player when he was cruelly struck down with a serious tendon injury in February. The rupture was deemed bad enough for the 25-year-old to undergo surgery. Full recovery could take anywhere between four and six months. If Sesane's rehabilitation goes well, he could be back in time for the start of the 2025-2026 season. Rulani Mokwena has ruled himself out of the running for the Zamalek job after hearing Pitso Mosimane was also a candidate. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old continues to be linked with the vacant Orlando Pirates job. Click for the story How much did Pirates miss Sesane at the back end of the 2024-2025 season? Kaizer Chiefs' secret weapon to save them millions in the market?
Former Kaizer Chiefs star Mokete Tsotetsi believes that the club should be handing more first-team opportunities to Given Msimango. Msimango featured eight times in the 2024-2025 Betway Premiership season. He will compete with Inacio Miguel and the returning Rushwin Dortley for a place in the first XI next season. REVEALED: Why Chiefs won't be signing Percy Tau Speaking to Soccer Laduma , Mokeke Tsotsetsi has called for Given Msimango to get more minutes under Nasreddine Nabi. He only made 10 appearances across all competitions in 2024-2025. That's in stark contrast with prior campaigns where he made 30 and 26 appearances in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 league campaigns, respectively. With Rushwin Dortley still on the long road to recovery after knee surgery, Chiefs will need Msimango at the start of 2025-2026. 'To be honest, I think Msimango didn't get enough chances this past season. For me, he is a natural defender, and I believe he still has so much to offer the team,' Tsotetsi said. 'He can still solve the problem that Chiefs have at the back, but he has to be given enough opportunities to gain his confidence again. He has done it before, and he can do it again. I think he still has a lot to offer Chiefs. If given a chance again, I think he can add value to the team.'
