The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history.
To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team.
With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover.
And for today's article, we will continue with the first of 31 people to wear the No. 20 jersey, Boston guard alum Larry Siegfried. After ending his college career at Ohio State, Siegfried was picked up with the third overall selection of the 1961 NBA draft by the (then) Cincinnati Royals (now, Sacramento Kings).
The Shelby, Ohio native sat out until he signed with Boston in 1963, however, and played the first seven seasons of his pro career with the team, ending when he was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1970 expansion draft held to populate their roster.
During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Siegfried wore only jersey No. 20 and put up 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.

Caitlin Clark can dunk on LeBron James in NBA 2K26

NBA 2K has Caitlin Clark DUNKING on LeBron James 🤣 Some sports moments can only happen in video games, like Indiana Fever superstar guard Caitlin Clark dunking on superstar Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James. While that's an improbable scenario in real life despite how amazing Clark is at basketball, NBA 2K26 allows for gamers to pit the two hoops legends against each other to the point where Clark can actually dunk on James. A viral clip from the upcoming NBA/WNBA video game shows Clark dunking on James and even taunting him after the fact. Again, this can only happen in a video game, but what a glorious example of why video games are so fun. Watch this as many times as you'd like! Whenever you play with the Fever against the Lakers, make sure to recreate this hysterical clip. When does NBA 2K26 come out? The game will be released on Friday, Sept. 5.

Ex-Celtic Kristaps Porzingis shines in EuroBasket warm-up game

Ex-Celtic Kristaps Porzingis shines in EuroBasket warm-up game originally appeared on The Sporting News Former Boston Celtic Kristaps Porzingis is looking much more like himself in a warm-up game ahead of the EuroBasket tournament. Porzingis led Team Latvia in a 109-105 loss over Team Lithuania. Porzingis dazzled in this game, scoring 22 points and notching five assists in the loss, looking much closer to the version of himself that most basketball fans have become accustomed to seeing. The last time Porzingis stepped on the court, it was for the Celtics during the team's playoff run, which ended in the Eastern Conference Semifinals at the hands of the New York Knicks. Porzingis had been battling an undisclosed illness for the majority of the playoffs, and it affected his performance on the court in such a negative manner that head coach Joe Mazzula opted to bring him off the bench on numerous occasions. After being such an integral part of the Celtics' championship run the year before, Porzingis averaged just 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 11 playoff games this past season (seven starts), rendering him almost unplayable for long stretches of game action. His latest EuroBasket performance is sure to leave a sour taste in Celtics fans' mouths, especially considering that Porzingis was traded to the Atlanta Hawks earlier this offseason after his porous postseason. Perhaps all the 30-year-old needed was some extended rest to recover from his odd illness. Nonetheless, if this recent performance is any indication, Porzingis looks healthy, and letting him go — especially to another Eastern Conference rival — can't sit well with the Celtics' brass, nor the fanbase.

Betting odds for Sixers' VJ Edgecombe to win 2026 Rookie of the Year

The 2025-26 NBA season continues to inch closer as the schedule has been released and everybody's attention turns to opening night in October. With that being said, now is the time to look at some odds for certain awards concerning the Philadelphia 76ers. While MVP is normally the one to watch for the Sixers due to the presence of Joel Embiid, there is some injury concern there, so this one is focused on Rookie of the Year due to the presence of VJ Edgecombe. FanDuel released their Rookie of the Year odds with Edgecombe ranking fourth in those odds with +1300. He is behind only San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, Washington Wizards guard Tre Johnson, and Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg. Edgecombe's chances to win Rookie of the Year will depend on how much the ball will be in his hands. The Sixers have a lot of guards they will rely on more than him--notably Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain--and numbers are a big part of the ROY voting. Edgecombe might not have the best chance to take home the award, but that will depend on what role he will have in the 2025-26 season.
