Raj Bhavan hosts Miss World 2025 winners as Telangana celebrates Formation Day with cultural splendour
The gathering, held over high tea, was steeped in Telangana's cultural spirit, with the guests of honour receiving traditional performances that showcased the region's artistic diversity. The ceremony began with each of the contestants invited to share their reflections on their month-long stay in the State.
Ms.Chuangsri, representing Thailand, expressed deep gratitude for the hospitality extended by Telangana and spoke fondly of her experience. 'From the very first step in Telangana, I felt the warmth, not just from the sun, but from people's smiles. To me, Telangana is a place where tradition blends beautifully with innovation. It is a State that represents beauty, progress and world-class healthcare, which is close to my heart.'
Continental winner from Africa Miss Ethiopia Hasset Dereje, the first runner-up, echoed the sentiment, describing Telangana as her home for the past month.
Second runner-up and Continental winner from Europe Miss Poland Maja Klajda, visiting India for the first time, called the experience unforgettable. 'Telangana is full of celebrations, traditions and, most of all, beautiful people,' she said, asserting that it would not be her last visit.
Continental winner from the Americas Miss Brazil Jéssica Pedroso, third runner-up, reflected on India's diversity and the unity she witnessed in Telangana. 'I have learned something very special here: despite our differences, we can be united. Telangana has shown us that diversity is a strength,' she said.
Continental winners from Caribbean Miss Martinique Aurélie Joachim called her visit a dream come true, while Miss Philippines Krishnah Gravidez, representing Asia, celebrated the State's resilience and sense of community. Miss Australia Jasmine Stringer, representing Oceania, lauded the hospitality and vowed to spread the story of Telangana's warmth across the globe.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, addressing the gathering, said the event was a reflection of Telangana's inclusive spirit and deep-rooted cultural ethos. 'Telangana is a place where everyone feels they belong. It is a shining example of how development and heritage can go hand in hand.'
He noted that the Miss World delegates had explored historic and modern landmarks across the State, from the Ramappa and Thousand Pillar Temples to the dynamic tech hub of Hitech City. Highlighting the evening's eco-conscious touch, the Governor drew attention to the leaf plates used for serving high tea, handcrafted by tribal communities. 'These plates are not just sustainable, they represent our belief in thinking globally and acting locally,' he said.
Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, and Director General of Police Jitender were among the dignitaries present. The event concluded with the felicitation of the beauty queens by the Governor, Chief Minister, and Tourism Minister. In a symbolic gesture, Miss World presented a garland to the Governor, explaining that in Thai culture, garlands signify love and respect.

Neyveli book fair draws over 1.75 lakh book lovers
Over 1.75 lakh book lovers from all walks of life, including schoolchildren, visited the recently-concluded 24th edition of the Neyveli Book Fair hosted by NLC India Limited (NLCIL). The event that was launched amid much fanfare on July 4, came to a close at the Book Fair Grounds on Monday. Addressing the valedictory function, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma appreciated the NLCIL for bring schoolchildren from rural areas to the book fair by arranging free transport. With rich and diverse languages and culture, India was a treasure trove of literature, he said, adding that the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat would become a reality only with the spreading of literature and culture. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL said the company had plans to increase its existing renewable energy capacity manifold by 2030. Though the Neyveli Book Fair had the second highest number of visitors in the State, it was the best in the country, he said. An e-souvenir was also released on the occasion. Ujjaini Mahakali temple in Secunderabad gears up for Lashkar Bonalu
HYDERABAD: To ensure the smooth conduct of Lashkar Bonalu celebrations, 45 CCTV cameras have been installed, and a command control room has been set up at the Mahankali police station. RP Road will be closed to traffic during the festivities. For devotees' convenience, several additional amenities have been arranged, including battery-operated cars for senior citizens, LED display screens at key points, waterproof shelters, and temporary toilets. The two-day Bonalu festivities at the Ujjaini Mahakali temple in Secunderabad, scheduled for July 13 and 14, mark the pinnacle of Ashada month celebrations. The temple has been decorated with flowers,and barricading works are near completion. An estimated 40 to 45 lakh devotees are expected to participate in the event. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma visited the temple and performed special pujas. A gold Bonam and a Pochampally saree will be offered to the deity as part of the ceremonial offerings. The iconic 30-year-old elephant from Karnataka will lead the Rangam procession. TGSRTC to operate over 170 special buses for Bonalu Hyderabad: In view of the Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu celebrations, TGSRTC has arranged special bus services on July 13 and 14 for devotees. Over 170 special buses will be operated from various key locations to Secunderabad. Buses will ply from MGBS, Kachiguda Railway Station, Jubilee Bus Stand, Charminar, Mehdipatnam, Nampally, Old Alwal, Sainikpuri, Sanathnagar, Borabanda, Patancheru, and other locations. Devotees can reach out to communication centres set up at Rathifile Bus Station (9959226154) and Koti Bus Stand (9959226160) for assistance.

Safeguarding culture along with literature is vital: Governor
Hyderabad: Telangana State Governor Jishnu Dev Varma stated that in today's society, it is the responsibility of everyone to protect not only literature but also culture. He inaugurated the Saraswati Literary Fest organised by the Varma Foundation on the occasion of Vyasa Purnima at JNTU on Thursday as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the idea that the whole world is one family, was given to us a thousand years ago to instill the thought that everyone in society is part of our family. No matter how fast we advance in the name of technology, only if we stay rooted to our origins will we achieve the right results'. He said that India's cultural heritage must be carried forward alongside development and added that the concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' forms the basis for today's idea of a global village. Varma Foundation Chairman Varma, speaking on the occasion, said that this festival is not limited to books alone but serves as a platform for expression of thought, writing, and dialogue. He informed that the celebrations will continue for two days. He mentioned that for the past few years, Saraswati Literary Fests have been organised in various states with the aim of showcasing India's historical greatness to students through diverse artistic presentations. As part of the fest, on the first day, debates and storytelling sessions were held on topics such as the importance of Indian knowledge systems in the 21st century, storytelling in the entertainment industry, stories in the digital age, and sustainable literature, along with Panchatantra tales. He revealed that this programme is being organised with the support of the Telangana State Department of Language and Culture. The event was also attended by Dr. B.V.R Mohan Reddy, Founder of Cyient, along with representatives from Amaravani and Jignasa Foundations.
