The Sun2 days ago
FOR many, earning RM7,000 a month in Kuala Lumpur might sound like a dream. But for one single mother, it's just enough to scrape by.
In a heartfelt viral post, the woman opened up about her struggles raising three children alone after her husband died in a car accident two years ago.
'Total expenses are roughly RM6,500. Salary is RM7,000. Urban poor in KL, just enough to get by,' she wrote, sharing her monthly expenses in detail:
- Monthly Expenses:
- Rent: RM1,000 (will increase to RM1,200 next year)
- Car loan: RM800 (RM23,000 remaining)
- Petrol: RM350
- Utility bills (electricity & water): RM170
- Gate guard fees: RM50
- Electrical appliance 1: RM70
- Electrical appliance 2: RM55
- Allowance for mother - RM150
- Three children: RM1,500
- Hibah: RM146
- Mobile plan: RM75
- Groceries, school expenses, etc: RM2,000+ (always takeaway because too exhausted to cook)
'Where else can I cut back? I have no debts, no house. I'm just living sincerely to raise my children. Please pray for my happiness and health.'
Her post quickly gained traction, striking a chord with thousands of Malaysians who praised her strength and resilience.

Some offered practical advice.
'Stop paying for the electric appliance. Stop hibah too — I know it's good, but for now stop first. Once you're stable, you can take it again. Downgrade the car if possible, or find a cheaper rental even if it's tough,' wrote one commenter.
Another added, 'You can try adjusting your housing or food expenses, or even look for a side income for extra savings. As long as you don't have debt, you're still okay. You're surviving, sis. Stay strong — you're doing good.'
'Downgrade your car to an Axia. Also, try to find a rental house under RM1K,' another netizen suggested.

Kuih Bakar with a twist: From pandan to sardine, savoury flavours steal the spotlight

According to Shahrilnizam Mohamed, 54, based on the original kuih bakar recipe of his mother, he and his wife, Mahanum Abdul Rahman, 52, allowed themselves to reimagine the traditional cake with contemporary tastes. "We want to change the perception that kuih bakar is only meant to be sweet. It can also be savoury and come in a variety of flavours…The idea to create sardine-flavoured kuih bakar was inspired by both my wife and me, as we enjoy sardine dishes,' said Shahrilnizam when met by Bernama at his outlet in Larkin Sentral here recently. Photo by Bernama The couple began their business in December last year with a capital of RM70,000, and now offer five flavour variations, ranging from classic pandan (RM8) to premium durian (RM15). Shahrilnizam said this unique kuih bakar, which takes between 45 minutes and one hour to bake, is a hit with Singaporean customers, many of whom are willing to wait for long periods to take home their favourite flavours, particularly durian and sardine. During the holiday season, sales can reach up to 450 pieces a day, compared to an average of 200 on regular days, indicating how innovation can elevate this traditional Malaysian delicacy to unexpected heights. "Whenever we come here (Larkin Sentral), it's a definite purchase for our family. Usually, kuih bakar only comes in pandan or corn flavour, so these unique variations like beef and sardine are truly different and they taste really good,' she added. - BERNAMA More Like This

New housing projects must include schools for community wellbeing

BUTTERWORTH: Every new housing project must be planned comprehensively, complete with facilities such as schools, preschools and nurseries for the well-being of the people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stressed that the government will not approve any housing project that does not meet these basic needs. 'If you build a house but the school is far away, what do you do?' he said when speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony and Launch of SkyWorld Pearlmont Rumah Bakat MADANI project here today. Anwar said an integrated planning approach not only saves on transportation costs for residents but also improves safety and reduces the concerns of parents who have to send their children to schools far away. He also stated that the government is considering the development of schools vertically (vertical schools) in areas with limited land, with complete facilities such as fields, laboratories and others. Anwar stressed that the comprehensive implementation of the project by developers is better than the separate tender method which can cause delays. He also praised the Rumah Bakat MADANI project by SkyWorld for having unique elements, namely providing a 'central park' and a 'vertical school', in addition to being the first project in Malaysia to be built using 'prefabricated prefinished volumetric construction (PPVC)' technology. PPVC technology uses a construction concept like 'LEGO', where modular units are completely built in the factory including the installation of tiles, toilet fittings, electrical wiring, windows, doors and painting work before being sent to the site for installation. Each Rumah Bakat MADANI unit measures 900 square feet, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and is sold at between RM225,000 to RM420,000 with freehold status. The residence is also equipped with facilities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, as well as badminton and pickleball courts, a multipurpose hall, kindergarten, surau, stalls, shops and a children's playground. - Bernama
