ALBAWABA - Israel's defence minister on Wednesday urged the Egyptian authorities to block two pro-Palestinian activist convoys, called Soumoud (meaning steadfastness in Arabic), from reaching Gaza.
Two convoys left from Algeria and Tunisia, and they will go through the lands of Libya and Egypt to break the siege imposed on Gaza, considering the fact that, unlike the Madleen ship, the convoys have no aid at all.
"I expect the Egyptian authorities to prevent the arrival of jihadist protesters at the Egypt-Israel border and not to allow them to carry out provocations or attempt to enter Gaza," Israel's defence minister, Israel Katz, said in a statement.
The Israeli minister also said that such actions "would endanger the safety of (Israeli) soldiers and will not be allowed".

King, in call with France president, stresses importance of stepping up efforts to reach Gaza ceasefire

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah received a phone call from France President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday and stressed the need to step up efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and de-escalate the situation in the West Bank. His Majesty emphasised the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Strip, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between Jordan and France to step up the humanitarian response in Gaza, according to a Royal Court statement. The King reiterated Jordan's rejection of Israeli statements regarding the 'Greater Israel' vision, plans to consolidate the occupation of Gaza and expand military control over it, and unilateral measures in the West Bank, including the settlement plan in the (E1) area, the statement said. His Majesty said the only way to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region is through the two-state solution, noting the importance of France's intention to recognise the State of Palestine as a step towards providing more support to Palestinians and achieving stability in the region. The call also touched on other regional developments, including Jordan's role in supporting Syria and Lebanon's efforts to preserve their sovereignty and enhance their stability.

Israel's Gaza occupation plan: On August 8, the Israeli government approved a plan suggested by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to gradually reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, noting that the plan started today, according to Israeli media, as more soldiers are being called to begin with controlling Gaza City. Netanyahu slams Macron for fuelling 'antisemitic fire' — letter

JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu upbraided President Emmanuel Macron in a letter seen by AFP Tuesday, blaming the French leader's move to recognise a Palestinian state for fuelling anti-semitism. Late last month, Macron said France would formally recognise a Palestinian state during a UN meeting in September, drawing a swift rebuke from Israel. By announcing the move, France was set to join a growing list of nations to recognise statehood for the Palestinians since Israel launched a bombardment of Gaza nearly two years ago in response to Hamas's shock attack. In the letter sent to Macron, Netanyahu said antisemitism had "surged" in France following the announcement. "Your call for a Palestinian state pours fuel on this antisemitic fire. It is not diplomacy, it is appeasement. It rewards Hamas terror, hardens Hamas's refusal to free the hostages, emboldens those who menace French Jews and encourages the Jew-hatred now stalking your streets," Netanyahu wrote in the letter. The Israeli premier went on to call on Macron to confront antisemitism in France, saying he must "replace weakness with action, appeasement with resolve, and to do so by a clear date: the Jewish New Year, September 23".
