Former Aggie utility player rejoins Texas A&M after a record-breaking season at SEU
Nobody saw this coming, but it's a welcome addition to a team that needs veteran leadership, especially from someone already familiar with the university and head coach Michael Earley.
After the 2024 season, eligibility status remained unclear for several Aggies, most notably Evan Aschenbeck and Chestnut. The NCAA dragged its feet, prompting both players to pursue other opportunities: Aschenbeck signed a professional contract, while Chestnut accepted a Division II offer from St. Edward's University.
During his time at SEU, Chestnut played in 60 games, batting .308 with 54 RBIs and 40 stolen bases. His 72 runs and 40 stolen bases set team records for the Hilltoppers. Chestnut's return to Aggieland brings speed to the basepaths and College World Series experience to a young, talented roster.

2026 3-star ATH is 'locked in' with Texas A&M despite Auburn offer
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class features one of the more intriguing athletes in the cycle, who is expected to play tight end with the Aggies once he makes his way to campus. As the starting quarterback for Fort Bend Marshall HS in Missouri City, Texas, the school where former standout running back De'Von Achane played, three-star athlete Kaeden Johnson has now become a coveted prospect in the SEC. Sometimes, it takes just one notable program noticing an under-the-radar prospect's ability to create a momentum shift, which has become the case with Johnson, who has now received an offer from Auburn, where his father, Spencer Johnson, played for the Tigers from 2000 to 2003. Johnson also reportedly has other family members who live in the Auburn, Alabama area. Johnson has now shut down his recruitment, like many of the program's 26 commitments in the class. However, during a recent interview with On3/Rivals Auburn insider Jeffrey Lee, Johnson stated that he is "pretty locked in with Texas A&M," compared to the excitement surrounding the offer from his childhood team. "I'm still trying to gt a date set," Johnson stated. "But it's going to take a lot. I'm pretty locked in with A&M." Johnson further explained that, while the offer is both exciting and personal, Texas A&M remains the leader to sign him in early December. "It's a cool opportunity to get offered by Auburn where my dad played, but it's going to take a lot to change my commitment." Johnson's 2024 season included 2,109 yards and 25 touchdowns through the air, completing 60% of his passes, while also rushing for 571 yards and six touchdowns. Johnson is now the 174th-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle and the 24th-ranked prospect in Texas. Former Nebraska baseball player Brice Matthews records first MLB hit on Saturday
Nebraska baseball alum Brice Matthews got his first major league hit on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. The hit itself was a single, and took place in the top of the third inning. Matthews was selected by the Houston Astros No. 28 overall in the 2023 MLB draft. He was officially called up to the Astros on July 11 and made his major league debut that same day. He was a productive player for Nebraska, as he was a powerful bat for the Huskers. His junior season was particularly of note, as he had a .359 batting average with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He became the first Husker in school history to achieve that feat. He was named to the 2023 all-Big Ten First Team. Now, Matthews is looking to make an impact at the major league level, and he certainly did that on Saturday. His career trajectory has been impressive to say the least. Notre Dame football offers top-50 2027 Mississippi defensive end
There isn't much room left in Notre Dame football's 2026 recruiting class, with twenty-six commitments, they can start to look ahead to the 2027 cycle. They already have two commits, just one being a position player, but the Irish have sent out plenty of offers to some of the best prospects in the country. One of them was offered on Saturday evening in Mississippi edge rusher Derwin Fields. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 220-pounder is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation's No. 45 overall prospect, just outside the 5-star range. Notre Dame now joins teams like Alabama, Florida, LSU, Florida State and others in offering Fields, who should end up being able to play virtually anywhere he'd like. It does look like its going to be tough to pull him away from SEC-country, but the Irish have put their hat in the ring. If Fields is able to make it up to South Bend during the season, it would be a great sign for Notre Dame to continue to be in the mix for his commitment. Time will tell if that happens, but for now, the Irish are clearly interested in him joining their 2027 class.
