Mamata to lead protest against alleged eviction of Bengalis in BJP-ruled states
The nearly 2-km protest march will also be led by her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, TMC's national general secretary. The march will start from College Square in north to Dorina Crossing at Esplanade, the party said.
"The BJP's assault on Bengali identity is no longer subtle, it's organised, relentless, and deeply communal. Under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee we will take to the streets in protest against these coordinated attacks on our people," the party release said.
The TMC recently heightened its anti-BJP campaign aiming to sustain protests in view of the 2026 assembly polls and a series of incidents faced by Bengali migrants in other states, particularly in BJP-ruled regions.
After Assam, Odisha, Delhi, and Haryana, the eviction and alleged deportation was also reported from Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra recently.
The TMC alleged that nine Bengali speaking people from Nadia district of Bengal were first jailed and then deported from Chhattisgarh recently.
"So the BJP would now have us believe that Aadhaar cards are being issued by state governments, not by the UIDAI, a statutory authority under the jurisdiction of MeitY headed by Ashwini Vaishnaw. Aadhaar is governed by the Aadhaar Act, 2016, and UIDAI is under the @narendramodi Govt, not any state. If fake Aadhaar cards are flooding the system, it is a colossal failure of the Centre," the TMC said on its X handle.
"Modi ji called Aadhaar a 'symbol of empowerment'. Well then, who's responsible for turning this 'symbol' into a national security threat?" questioned a protest message from the ruling TMC.

He further said that those who live in Maharashtra should "learn Marathi as soon as possible." "I will not make any compromises over Marathi and the people of Maharashtra. Those who live in Maharashtra, to them I would like to say, 'learn Marathi as soon as possible, wherever you go, speak Marathi'. In Karnataka, they fight for their language. Even a rickshaw puller knows that the Government is standing behind him over language. Similarly, you are like a pillar and speak in Marathi only. This is what I have come to request all of you," Thackeray said while addressing a gathering in Mumbai. Taking a dig at the Maharashtra leadership over the language policy, Thackeray said, "Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had said that they would make Hindi language compulsory (in schools)... Maharashtra CM is fighting for Hindi. Marathi should be made mandatory in all schools. But instead, you are speaking about making Hindi mandatory." The Maharashtra Government had revoked the government resolutions (GRs) on the three-language policy, introducing Hindi as the third language in primary schools. The government has decided to set up a committee to take a relook into the three-language policy. Fadnavis announced that the government resolutions (GRs) issued in April regarding the three-language policy in primary schools have been cancelled. The first GR had made Hindi a compulsory third language for students from Classes 1 to 5, and the second GR made it optional.

Who is ‘Neha' aka Abdul Kalam? Bangladeshi national who lived as transgender in India for decades arrested in Bhopal
The Bhopal Police arrested a Bangladeshi man, Abdul Kalam, who was living in India under the alias Neha for decades. He was held in the intervening night between Monday and Tuesday, during a crackdown on illegal migrants. According to several reports, Abdul Kalam, who is aged around 30-32 years presently, was arrested in Bhopal. He was living as transgender woman, Neha. Sources told India Today TV that Abdul entered India at the age of 10 and spent nearly 20 years in Mumbai before moving to Bhopal. He had been living in Bhopal for the past 10 years under the assumed identity of Neha Kinnar, the New Indian Express (TNIE) reported. Sources revealed that Abdul had reportedly maintained the identity of a transgender woman for years in Bhopal to avoid detection by local authorities. He was widely known as "Neha Kinnar" in the locality where he was staying. Acting on specific intelligence inputs from a specialised unit tracking foreign nationals residing illegally in the state, Abdul Kalam alias Neha Kinnar was traced to the Mangalwara locality in old Bhopal. A senior Bhopal police official told TNIE, 'The third gender individual was recently traced and has since then been questioned by a dedicated team of cops.' Abdul has been placed under 30-day detention while the authorities initiate formal deportation procedures, India Today reported. As per TNIE sources, the process of Abdul Kalam aka Neha Kinnar's deportation to Bangladesh is likely to start over the next few days, once the entire probe about the 10-year-long illegal stay in Bhopal is over. Bhopal police found that Abdul had constructed a false identity as an Indian citizen after forging documents including an Aadhaar card, voter ID, and even a passport. According to TNIE, Abdul Kalam managed to get the new identity of Neha Kinnar by getting various identity proof documents to give legal sanctity to the false identity. However, it remains unclear whether these documents were procured in Madhya Pradesh or elsewhere to legally him as an Indian citizen. It's alleged that Abdul had made multiple visits to Bangladesh during his decades-long stay using the forged Indian passport. Police official Shalini Dixit told India Today, 'We received credible information through a confidential informant, which led to his identification and subsequent arrest.' Initial questioning revealed that Abdul Kalam has lived in various parts of the country, including West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra and MP. "He has been residing in Bhopal for nearly a decade, but prior to that, he lived in Maharashtra. During this time, he had also returned to Bangladesh, which he managed to do using forged Indian credentials," Dixit added. The official said the investigation is ongoing, and "we are closely coordinating with central agencies." According to India Today report, police are preparing to conduct a gender verification test to determine whether 'Neha' is biologically transgender or has been disguising himself as one to conceal his identity.

Rift between AIADMK and BJP widening, say CPI & CPM state secretaries
COIMBATORE/TIRUVARUR: The rift within the AIADMK-BJP alliance is widening, said CPI state secretary R Mutharasan and CPI (M) state secretary P Shanmugam on Saturday. The left leaders cited the lack of unanimity among AIADMK and BJP leaders on the goal of forming a coalition government by both the allies in the state after the next Assembly poll. 'Amit Shah states that the AIADMK-BJP alliance will form a coalition government, while Edappadi K Palaniswami asserts that he is the chief ministerial candidate. Cracks are widening daily within the AIADMK-BJP alliance,' Mutharasan said in Coimbatore while referring to the different stands of the BJP leader and AIADMK general secretary. Mutharasan was in Coimbatore to attend CPI's district conference. 'Does Palaniswami encourage BJP's New Education Policy and misuse of investigative agencies such as ED, NIA, etc?' Mutharasan asked while also recalling that former Chief Minister late J Jayalalithaa had vowed the AIADMK would not form an alliance with the BJP henceforth. Mutharasan hoped Edappadi K Palaniswami would hold a clean campaign in the run-up to the election. Speaking to reporters in Tiruvarur, CPI(M) state secretary P Shanmugam, meanwhile, accused Palaniswami of supporting all anti-people, -farmer and -state actions of the BJP-led union government. 'Edappadi should apologise to farmers for supporting the anti-farmer laws,' the CPI(M) leader demanded. Shanmugam claimed the National Democratic Alliance in the state is torn by confusion. 'Like Amit Shah, BJP's former state leader K Annamalai and others are also asserting there will be a coalition government in Tamil Nadu. But Palaniswami continues to claim that they will form a government with a clear majority. There is confusion within the BJP-AIADMK alliance, and the AIADMK is weakening,' he claimed. Shanmugam also rebutted Palaniswami's claim that his party accepted money from the DMK. 'We have already explained this a hundred times. We received money from the DMK for election expenses, but we handed it back exactly as it was received. Not even a single tea was consumed by the Communist Party from that amount,' he added.
