Israeli Airstrikes Kill Over 100 in Gaza as Hospitals Become Military Targets, Says Palestinian NGO Director
Amjad Shawa, Director of the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO), has condemned the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, stating that more than 100 people — mostly women and children — have been killed in the past 24 hours as airstrikes intensify across the besieged territory.
Speaking in an interview with Alqahera News Channel, Shawa accused the Israeli military of deliberately targeting entire families and civilian homes without distinction. 'The occupation is systematically enforcing forced displacement,' he said, adding that Israeli forces now control between 79 and 80 percent of the Gaza Strip. 'Civilians have been pushed into less than 20 percent of the area. Northern Gaza has been entirely transformed into an uninhabitable evacuation zone.'
Shawa also warned of an escalating humanitarian catastrophe as hospitals come under direct attack. He cited a recent strike on Al-Awda Hospital, where missile fire ignited fires in fuel and medicine storage facilities, hindering emergency response teams from reaching the site. He also referenced previous Israeli attacks on the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.
'These strikes are not only war crimes; they are part of a broader strategy to forcibly evacuate civilians by dismantling the healthcare system,' Shawa said. 'Wounded individuals are left without treatment as hospitals are forced out of service, pushing Gaza's fragile health infrastructure to the brink of collapse.'
He called the targeting of the health sector a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and urged the international community to act immediately. 'This is a historic responsibility,' he said, emphasizing the urgency of protecting civilians and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid.
As the bombardment continues, humanitarian agencies warn that Gaza is facing a spiraling crisis with little room left for safe shelter, medicine, or medical care.

Israeli-imposed starvation, bombardment push Gaza death toll beyond 60,900
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Monday that the death toll from Israel's ongoing assault on the Strip has reached 60,933, with 150,027 injured since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023. The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate under siege and escalating famine. In the past 24 hours alone, the ministry reported 94 new fatalities—including four bodies recovered from beneath the rubble—and 439 injuries. According to ministry data, since 18 March 2025, 9,440 people have been killed and 37,986 injured, highlighting the scale of recent escalations. Among those known locally as 'Breadline Martyrs,' who were killed while trying to secure food aid, 29 were reported dead over the past day, with 300 others injured. This brings the total number of these victims to 1,516 killed and over 10,067 injured since the beginning of the crisis. Beyond casualties from bombardment, the ministry confirmed five new deaths due to famine and malnutrition, all adults, raising the overall number of famine-related fatalities to 180, including 93 children. The crisis continues to deepen amid severe restrictions on humanitarian aid. Gaza's Government Media Office reported that Israel allowed in only 14% of the required aid over the past eight days, alleging that some convoys were 'systematically looted as part of a policy to engineer chaos and starvation.' In a recent escalation, the Israeli army bombed the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent in the southern city of Khan Younis, resulting in casualties among medical staff. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attack as 'horrific,' extended condolences to the victims' families, and renewed calls to halt assaults on healthcare and humanitarian workers. He also reiterated demands for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. 93 children among 175 people who died of starvation amid Israeli blockade: Ministry - War on Gaza
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced Sunday that six more adults have died from starvation in the past 24 hours due to the deadly Israeli blockade, bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths in Gaza to 175, including 93 children, since the outbreak of the genocidal Israeli war on the Strip in October 2023. Over 150 of the hunger-related deaths have occurred since Israel imposed its total blockade on Gaza on 2 March, according to various reports. Gaza's humanitarian crisis continues to deteriorate under an ongoing Israeli blockade, with severe shortages of food and medical supplies, the health ministry warned via its official Facebook page. Last week, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a global authority on food crises, said a 'worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out' in Gaza, warning of 'widespread death' without urgent action. The alert followed the spread of images in media reports of emaciated children and multiple reports of hunger-related fatalities. International outrage prompted Israel to announce daily 'humanitarian pauses' and aid airdrops. Still, the United Nations (UN) and Palestinians on the ground say these measures have done little to ease the crisis. Aid trucks are often overwhelmed by desperate crowds before they reach their intended destinations. The IPC has warned that Gaza has hovered on the brink of famine for two years, with the situation 'dramatically worsened' by increasingly strict Israeli restrictions. The World Food Programme (WFP) says one in three people in Gaza is going days without eating. At the same time, hospitals report a rising number of deaths from malnutrition, particularly among children under five. Gaza's population of over 2 million has been pushed into ever smaller and devastated areas under constant bombardment, with essential services collapsing. Witkoff says 'no famine in Gaza' In the face of growing international outrage over images of Palestinians starving due to the Israeli blockade, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff claimed on Friday that 'there is no famine in Gaza'. Witkoff made the claim during a meeting in Tel Aviv with families of Israelis held captive by Palestinian factions in Gaza. Witkoff's comments contradicted those of US President Donald Trump, who recently said: 'That's real starvation stuff ... I see it, and you can't fake that.' Earlier on Saturday, the US envoy visited Rafah in southern Gaza, where he toured a facility run by the US-backed and Israeli-run Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), established in May. The GHF has been condemned by tens of international aid agencies and rights groups as a "death trap" for hungry Gazans, as Israeli forces killed over 1,400 starving aid-seekers at the foundation's distribution points since 27 May. Hamas dismissed Witkoff's visit as a 'pre-scripted performance' aimed at misleading public opinion and providing political cover for a deliberate campaign of starvation. In a statement, the Palestinian resistance group accused the US of being 'a full partner in the crimes of starvation and genocide taking place before the eyes of the world.'
