Content: The hosts take on a sleeping giant in Basel. Switzerland don't have much of a record at the Euros: they've only qualified twice before, in 2017 and 2022, failing to get out of the groups on both occasions. Norway on the other hand are past masters: champions in 1987 and 1993, and runners-up four other times. But the word past is instructive there: Norway, erstwhile World and Olympic champions as well, aren't the force they once were, having failed to get through the groups at the last two Euros – remember that 8-0 defeat to England three years ago? – and falling to their current Fifa ranking of 16th in the world, the joint-lowest mark in their history. So while Switzerland, ranked 23rd, may be very much second best historically, there's not so much of a gap between the countries right now.
Having said all that, Norway will still fancy their chances this afternoon. They've beaten Switzerland twice already this year, in the Nations League, while the Swiss are six without a win in competitive matches. The hosts, who are without the injury-stricken Ramona Bachmann, will look to Arsenal midfielder Lia Wälti for inspiration; Norway have plenty of star power up front in Caroline Graham Hansen and Ada Hegerberg. July 20 (Reuters) - Santiago Lencina struck twice as River Plate hammered 10-man Instituto ACC 4-0 on Saturday, making it two wins from two matches for the visitors in Argentina's Clausura championship. Facundo Colidio put River ahead in the 44th minute with a deflected shot before 19-year-old Lencina doubled their lead just moments before halftime with a left-foot strike that deflected off Instituto centre back Fernando Alarcon. Lencina made it 3-0 in the 67th minute with a well-controlled shot after receiving the ball in the box, while Instituto were reduced to 10 men six minutes later after midfielder Francis Manuel Mac Allister received a red card for a foul on Lencina. Facing unique French test makes All Blacks better, says coach Robertson
July 20 (Reuters) - New Zealand coach Scott Robertson believes his team will have gained long-term benefits from overcoming a France side that offered a unique challenge on Saturday as the All Blacks completed a 3-0 series win over the Europeans. Robertson's team were forced to fight their way back into the game after a fast start by the tourists to clinch a come-from-behind 29-19 win in Hamilton that ensured the All Blacks swept the series. "What we take out of it is you've got to play different teams," said Robertson. "They attack differently to anything in Super Rugby, maybe in world rugby, so you train all week in opposition to try and beat the French, and it's really unnatural. "We know what's coming, we've got to stop them. And that's what we've learnt again tonight. They start, they get ahead of us, that fills our hunger. But that's test match footie. You never under-assume anyone and we're better for it." Robertson made 10 changes to the team that started the previous test and the French dominated the opening exchanges to claim a 19-10 lead through back-to-back penalties by scrumhalf Nolann Le Garrec. A try by All Blacks centre Anton Lienert-Brown late in the half reduced the deficit to two points and a strong second-half showing, inspired by replacement Jordie Barrett, led New Zealand to victory. "We know how important the 23 is and Jordie was just so professional when he came on," said Robertson. "He made a massive difference for us. Some of that wasn't pretty, we understand that, but there was a hell of a lot of character and effort off the back of a lot of care. "One thing for us is we've got to get the balance right. Sometimes we can overplay and sometimes we can underplay with our kicking. That's the balance."

The gap to the very front is under three minutes. Riding for Big Sir Jim's Ineos, Thymen Arensman, has gone for it, and ends up taking 40 seconds off the rest. And climbing…what an effort. 3.50pm CEST 15:50 4okm to go: Calm before the storm, though the maillot jaune group is now back just three minutes, a totally bridgeable gap. A reunion surely imminent. 3.33pm CEST 15:33 50mkm to go: Behind the leaders, two groups – one is 1'50', the yellow is 3' 31', and Milan is just over 16 minutes back. The hard work starts soon, though. Into the valley the leading trio ride. Peyresourde is next, a category one climb. 3.27pm CEST 15:27 55km to go: Martinez, not so brave – or foolish - a descender – is caught by Kuss and Paret-Peintre, and a trio forms that can work together over the Peyresourde. Race radio informs the riders that this is a 'technical' descent. 3.25pm CEST 15:25 60km to go: Martinez, the lone rider, takes five points at the peak of the Aspin. To quote the sponsors, a famed hypermarché: 'He is thus the first rider to reach the 50-point mark and will receive the promised bonus to celebrate 50 years of the polka dot jersey!' Perhaps a free run on a pick n' mix, or those small bottles of beer they do. Updated at 4.46pm CEST 3.14pm CEST 15:14 65km to go: It's a 5km climb, the Aspin, and the people are out in force, and with far less mist to negotiate. Martinez is looking good on the climbs, less good on the descent. Kuss is 50 seconds back. Pogacar is looking comfortable enough as his team leads him up the climb. The Col d'Aspin beckons Martinez as he starts the second category climb and looks in good nick. He has 2,500 of climbing to complete by the end of the day. They will regroup in the valley then…more climbing. 2.43pm CEST 14:43 90km to go: As the pack climbs over the summit, Julian Alaphilippe, the French veteran, grabs a cardboard sign to thrust down his jersey for warmth on the descent. A lack of L'Equipe newsprint for him to use. The digital media has many byproducts, not all of them as useful as that. There is sun at the bottom of the valley but first they must negotiate a squall of showers and some decidedly risky, skiddy ground.
